Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Could be great
The course could be great if they would fix the grass on most of the fairways..most of it's thinned out. Traps barely had sand and underneath it was hard as a rock. Greens were pretty decent however and the course at least had grass on majority of it making it possible to enjoy a round. Cost is a bit much for what you get. The two municipal's in Austin are cheaper and nicer maintenance wise.
had great time.
Got a great "hot deal". It's cheap and the course was great. Wasn't held up. Didn't get pushed. Over all it was great. Played this course plenty of times, this was by far the best time. They do need more shade trees.
Good course.....I will be going back!
I've always heard bad things about this course so I never went but now that I've played most of the courses around here I decided to give it a chance and it was worth it. Fees were solid and the course was in good shape. I will be playing here again and bringing friends along.
Course is not in good condition
There is mudd in the middle of pretty much every fairway. Sand traps were completely muddy. I assume it's from their sprinkler system. Mudd all over the golf cart. Grass was also grown up in the fairway, hasn't been cut. Where's the maintanence crew? Overall Not good value for $$$ spent.
Not Bad
The staff was friendly enough, the course wasn't bad, all in all it was a good experience. The course is in good shape but not great. The clubhouse is depressing and limited in offerings. The marshall misjudged the pace of play and really jammed things up once, but it looked over booked so it wasn't completely his fault. But outside of that it was fine.
Great course for the $
We played here for $16 a player. The course seemed to be a bit jammed up, but I would imagine that is due to the price. Hancock would cost more with a cart for 9 holes.
This course needs help with bunkers.
This course needs help with bunkers. Several old bunkers were just filled with dirt and had no grass on them. It looked horrible and made it impossible to play out of if you got caught on one of these old bunkers. Also, the new bunkers were filled with sand that was very hard. Not exactly the typical bunkers.
Cheap...you get what you pay for
I played on a hot Thursday afternoon. The course was very dry and beat up in several locations. Pace of play was quick despite playing behind several groups. If you're looking for an inexpensive round, it's nothing spectacular but still has some challenging holes.
Nice course
This is a nice reasonable course with pretty decent maintenance. The sand traps were full of water so if you hit one you had to fish your ball out and hit from a drop.
The course fairways are mostly lined with homes. There was a couple in their yard and my friend hit her ball over their fence from the tee box. They got mad at her. I cannot imagine living on a golf course and not expecting to have encounters with balls.
Other than that, a nice course!
Good course and just needs more care on some holes

Blackhawk Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship layout, featuring a links-style course that challenges all levels of golfers.
Blackhawk offers four sets of tees ranging from 5,507 to 7,072 yards. The fairways are flanked by strategically placed trees and water hazards, which minimize the Central Texas winds. The bunkers are strategically placed and the Tif Dwarf Bermuda grass greens with mild slopes are large and well-manicured.
poorly maintained
what a disappointment. the fairways on this course are in terrible shape. one of the worse coures i have played.
Fun course
Great pace of play with 3 people, course was in good shape , loved the greens. Course is fairly short but still difficult, gotta be careful off the tee box and some approaches , water is somewhat hidden from view.
over all very good.
Lots of tall grassy fairways, water, nice long pars with room.
Okay for the money
This is a good course for practicing for an up coming tournament, or at this price for getting in a quick round alone or working with a junior golfer. The pace of play was good, and we were that slow group that let others play through. It is open and mostly straight and provides some challenge with water and bunkers.
The greens and tees are in great shape, but the fairways are patchy at best and the bunkers are either hard or filled with new-ish sand piles that make them look like overfilled sandboxes.
This is not a course I would book for out of town guests or a tournament, but for a quick round, this course is in expensive and easy to get on, so I will go back.
Fairways in bad shape.
Course ok for $17 if all you are wanting is a cheap practice round. My game needs much better course conditions.
Dissappointed
I have not played this course in years and now I remember why. This course has always been a large dissappointment. Course was in terrible condition, just as always. I will not play this course again!
Course is in VERY poor condition.
Even under the latest management, this course is still in very bad condition. Very dry and hard. The sand traps are more like concrete traps....most don't even have rakes (which wouldn't make a difference). Blackhawk still finds it necessary to charge a pemium price for a subpar course.
I was expecting more
My first time playing here and I had heard some decent things about the course. Didn't start well, since there was apparently a shotgun tournament that started at 8 am and our tee time was at 9:52 am. 30 min delay, which we were not notified. Had I been, I would have booked somewhere else. Greens were in great shape, the fairways however, they need some work on and some of the bunkers are not fully developed or have been turned over so many times, it's mixing with regular dirt. The pace was slow only because of the tournament. I would consider going back but not for the price I paid. I've paid less at other courses and have been very satisfied (i.e. Plum Creek, Jimmy Clay, Roy Kizer, Riverside, etc.)
Ok condition at best
Overall the course wasnt too bad. The fairways were rough and not in great conditions. The bunkers were really bad
Almost perfect, almost.
Some of the fairways and pretty much all of the sand traps could use some work, like hitting off of concrete...also its in a residential area and not all obs are roped off. (Got scolded by an old man, who turned out to be extremely friendly.) However, greens were perfect! Staff was warm and welcoming, marshalls very friendly...I will definitely play this course again!
