Ironwood Golf Course

About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

.....and I thought Turkey Creek's greens were bad!
Decided to try the course after playing Turkey Creek a few times. Ironwood had probably the worst greens I've ever played on. The course is challenging enough with water, trees, and snakes. But, with greens that are mostly dirt, it was impossible putting. I'm never playing the course again. Oh, so as not to sound like a serial complainer, they had good electric carts.
There were several greens that were very torn up and the fairways, especially approaching the greens were very bare. The staff was extremely friendly, and the cart girl was very visible throughout the round. Place of play was very good.
Good value for the money
$35 for 18 and most all the greens were in decent shape. Fairways had a few rough patches, but otherwise a great course for the money. Staff was extremely friendly, and the Starter especially!
Ironwood
Fairways are beautiful, but they've lost their greens. We were putting across 10+ feet of algae and sand. The greens are mostly elevated, but most of the slopes were worn and eroded.
They should move all their greens 90' closer to the tees until they get them resodded and grown in.
Okay for the money
Greens are in really bad condition right now, but the rest is okay.
Very Disappointed
I have played this course off and on for 2 decades and understand the issues the course has had. But this round the greens were basically unplayable as they were severely damaged and basically hard pan. Fairways were above average and look like they were starting to come back. Facility looks very worn from the las time I played it and hope that the groups involved can figure out how to balance cost of course condition maintenance and city budget. Unless you can get a Hot Deal rate it simply is not worth playing at the moment. Greens have to be playable at the minimum.
Good option in Gainesville
I often play in Ironwood, because it is better than the other one inside the city. The overall courses are good considering the price. However, what I don't like in this course is that, there are so many bushes around the courses, so I can easily lose my balls.
Needs lots of care
I was on vacation, and I was very disappointed on the condition this golf course was . Most greens had barely any grass, tee boxes were bad. Layout is good but would not recommend due to the condition.
Nice course and a lot of wildlife scenery.
I played this course a couple of weeks ago and was in pretty rough shape. At that time the greens were in horrible shape but they had plugged them and scraped them. Starting to green up in the fairways and looking a lot better. Yesterday the greens are getting better but a ways to go for a good putting green!
The fairways were terrible/ and the greens were worst then the Fairways.
I give ironwood a 1.2 out of 10
Just the greens were like a construction site/ just terrible.
