Ironwood Golf Course
About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Terrible condition
I've been playing at this course for the last 8 winters. Each year it gets worse. The greens are the absolute worst I've ever seen. Scabby and weedy. Fairways are a bit better but there are lots of bare spots necessitating a need to move your ball and improve your lie. Apparently they have hired a new greens superintendant so hopefully the greens will begin to improve. This is the only municipal course in Gainesville and it should be treated as the gem that it is. Local government needs to keep this course going and spend some much needed funds on improvements.
Sad to see
Having played Ironwood many times, it's sad to see what is and has been happening with the course. The tee areas and many fairways are in decent condition but not the greens. Pretty much every green had large bare spots on them. The practice greens are in poor shape as well. It seems that the grounds staff are keeping things mowed and even the bunkers had recently been groomed. However, It's likely they're budget doesn't allow them to get what is needed to get the greens in good shape. It's well known locally that since Ironwood is a municipal city government controlled facility, it is not supported by some of the government officials that make decisions concerning the course. It's just sad that the 5th most popular sport in America is not better supported by the city government.
Greens need help
Course was in good condition but the greens need help.
Greens Need Work
Course was in decent shape except for the greens. The greens have always needed attention at this course, but they are extremely bad right now. Lots of bare spots and lot of crabgrass encroaching. They definitely need attention. Other than that, the course was in good shape, especially the bunkers. First time I didn't see a pond in the bunker on 14.
Good overall
Some of the greens could have been better. There's a few that have patches of Crabgrass. But overall nice.
Great time
I alway enjoy playing this course. Weather was perfect
Same old ironweed
If you don’t expect much you won’t be let down.. Greens never get any better. Driving range and balls are beat up. Fairways are usually descent. Beer prices are good
