About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Great course. Exactly what you’d expect for the price and it being a muni. Fun layout. Fair and forgiving, but with the opportunity to make some tough shots. Overall fun loop. Green we’re in rough shape and drainage seems to be an issue on some fairways.. But those negatives minimally affected play. The course was fully booked so I expected a nightmarishly long round. To my surprise, once we got off the first tee we finished in 3:40. Not bad!!! Worthwhile to play this course if you are in Gainesville.

Disappointed
Booked a later tee time for individual round and quickly came up on 4some that refused to let me play through. Therefore dark approached after playing 6 holes of an 18 hole rd that I paid for and usually would have finished with time to spare. The course was in good shape but I only was able to see a third of the holes and have no desire to get only partially what I paid for. Would love to see entire course and see staff keep check on players on course and keep pace of play enjoyable for all.

Love the layout, maintenance is lacking
I'd heard the conditions at Ironwood had improved earlier this year, so I decided to give it another try. Unfortunately there was evidence of a lot of deferred maintenance. Several broken irrigation pipes had created creeks in fairways and wet conditions on at least one tee box. Weeds had grown up around posts and signage. Greens were spotty and inconsistent, like some hadn't been mowed or rolled in days. Even the driving range was overgrown, like a cow field. I suspect staffing has been an issue since rumors about the City of Gainesville closing Ironwood began circulating, so the course is in decline as a result. It's a shame.

Poor Greens
Greens were in fair to poor condition. Golfnow should have warned golfers of aeration of greens.

Great if you have 6 hours to golf.
Im a frequent golfer here but the last two times have been awful. There are high school golfers walking all over the course. I don’t mind it at all, but it would be nice to know that ahead of time. It took me over 2 1/2 hours to play the front 9. The greens are in good shape, course has some nice hole design. I just can’t go there and play anymore because of the ridiculously slow pace of play.

Ironwood
Course is in much better shape than previously. Still needs some attention on the greens and mowing the rough down a bit. Otherwise, not too bad…

Swampy
Pace of play was great done in 3 hours. I came upon a guy giving lessons to his kids. He was very considerate and let several groups go through. Fairways were in good shape plenty of grass, green were a little bumpy but not terrible. Some area’s of the course could have used a mowing. Course was worth the $27 bucks but not worth the 50 min drive. Overall a good day playing.
