About
Ironwood Golf Club has the distinction of being named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play." Owned by the city of Gainesville, this popular course hosts more than 50 tournaments year. The course winds through a scenic landscape covered with century-old pines and sparkling lakes. Don't be surprised if you're joined by the wildlife that calls the course home, which includes deer and wild turkeys. The layout will keep you guessing with interesting twists and turns. The elevated greens have dramatic drops from front to back, making them a challenge to read. There are strategically placed bunkers throughout Ironwood Golf Club, as well as thick rough along the fairways. The obstacles combined with some tricky doglegs will make you think twice about swinging the driver too freely. Strategy, not strength, is the key to doing well on this course.

Great City Course even greater staff.
Woke up looking for a road trip course to play. Found Ironwood. While waiting out the rain conversing with the staff. They were so over the top welcoming and grateful I chose to play there today. The conditions were wet so cart path most of the round. A flatter course layout with challenging holes. The greens rolled pretty smooth but kind of patchy on some of the holes.The fairways maybe this time if yr are short on turf. Looking forward to making the trip up again to play Ironwood. I have played numerous city courses this one stands out!
Very nice
Greens were nice, fairways were nice. I had never played here before and was pleasantly surprised. Even saw a couple gators laying by the water on the front nine.
Golf on our way Home
Stopped in Gainesville for 18 holes before heading back to Ga- play was very slow at first, but back nine was much better pace of play.
Decent Course
First time playing here in quite a while. Though the course is kind of flat, the course was in good shape. Greens were sandy but still fast. More people playing than I remember but still managed to finish in less than four hours. I’ll be back.
Worst Greens Around
Greens aerated & heavily sanded. Approach shots don't hold & skip off. Putting difficult, not rolling try and picking up sand on the ball.
Course heavily watered & wet.
Departure time
Availability on the course with its respective golf cart should improve, especially on busy days. It was my turn this Sunday that even though I was 15 minutes before the starting tee, I couldn't get out because there weren't enough golf carts available.
I didn't manage to play busy field.
I arrived early but I couldn't play because the entire field was occupied and there was no car.
Good public course
Great course, very challenging.
Will definitely be back to play more.
Good layout - - physical condition was poor
It is amazing that Parks and Recreation don't budget and invest more money into the maintenance of this golf course. This course could be a joy to play. The layout is good. Tee boxes and greens were in poor condition. Bunkers not raked in the morning before the first tee times. Won't be back.
They can never seem to get their greens right. Always have sand or seed all over them. Poor pace of play. Would rather drive a little more and play much better courses in Ocala.
Needs improvement (badly)
Greens were below average. Noticeable weeds on the greens.
Fairways were average. Some areas need repair
Rough were below average. No distinction between rough and parts of fairway.
Tee boxes (orange) were average. Not many people play from the tips.
Practice greens were terrible. Very sandy due to repair from washout.
Carts were below average, holes in seats. Etc…
Florida Golf in December
Enjoyed the course. Played 18 in 2hours and 56 minutes. Course was in good shape. Greens were very fast and someone made the person cutting the holes angry. Pin placements were TOUGH.
The Staff was outstanding. Definitely would play there again.

Fun
Great course. Exactly what you’d expect for the price and it being a muni. Fun layout. Fair and forgiving, but with the opportunity to make some tough shots. Overall fun loop. Green we’re in rough shape and drainage seems to be an issue on some fairways.. But those negatives minimally affected play. The course was fully booked so I expected a nightmarishly long round. To my surprise, once we got off the first tee we finished in 3:40. Not bad!!! Worthwhile to play this course if you are in Gainesville.
