Great course

Everything was excellent except for the late day lumpiness and slow speed of the greens. Even that wasn't that bad. It also suffers - as do all courses these days - from inconsiderate players who don't fix their divots.

Fun Scramble Event

Played in the spring scramble and again this summer scramble event. Course puts on an excellent event and too bad there were not more teams. For the price, quality of the course and facilities, it is hard to beat it. Course in excellent condition but I would have a hard time playing it at full rack rate. For those that can afford it, you do get an excellent experience.

Really Enjoyable Round

This was my first time playing Bear's Best and I really enjoyed it. Course was in great condition and I loved feeling like I was playing on those famous holes. I will be back to play again!

Extremely slow round

The pace of play at the course is horrible every time I play there. There are no marshals on the course to encourage slow groups to pick up the pace or to allow faster (smaller) groups to play through. 5 hours to finish on a Thursday afternoon is just insane!

This course gets a ton of play and the greens are usually kept SLOW and are always beat up. The earlier you play in the day the better off you are. If you tee off late in the day, good luck making anything outside 5 feet.

I love the course design and layout. It was a much nicer and enjoyable course to play when it first opened. Now you can expect 5+ hour rounds and extremely bumpy/slow greens.

Bear's Best struggling a bit

I have not played Bear's Best in a couple of years primarily because of the cost. I saw lower green fees advertised on GolfNow and jumped on the offer. While I still had a great experience, and Bear's Best is a really fun layout, the course is not in the same kind of shape it was the last time I played. This probably explains the lower green fees.

Extremely Slow Pace of Play and SLOW SLOW greens.

My title says it all. Pace of play was terrible 5 plus hours as a foursome we waited on virtually every shot. Greens slowest speed I can recall ever putting on in Atlanta. Maybe they will speed them up in the Fall. Disappointing compared to other rounds at Bears Best when greens are good speed and condition.

Very,Very Slow Greens

The course was a fun layout! However, the greens were the slowest I have ever putted a golf ball on in my life. The speed of the greens really ruined what could have been a great course.

Nice Layout, Slowest Greens Anywhere

The course is a nice, straight-forward layout with generous landing areas and fairway bunkers that didn't come into play for any in our group hitting from the 2nd set of tees. We all 4 shot In the 80s in spite of the fact that the greens were the slowest any of us had EVER played. Jack would have not been impressed. The 2 par 3s over water were the favorite holes. Not anywhere near worth $99 because of the greens. Sand traps could use some work also. Sorry Jack, Love your course in Vegas.

Mr.

Pace of play was great. Greens however were in fairly rough shape. many many ballmarks unattended to. I must have fixed 3 on every green.
Greens were very slow. Not their normal pace. Fairways nice, tee boxes nice.

Slow, slow, slow

We had to wait on every hole, every shot. The rangers came around, but did nothing to speed up the pace of play. Some of the staff told us play is always slow.

The tee boxes are in terrible condition, and the greens pitted with ball marks - many of the ball marks weren't even repaired. However, the fairways were in very good condition. Overall, it's not worth the money.

Great course, but condition is slipping

Bear's Best is a great layout and normally in great condition. However, we have played this course each week for the past month or two.

The greens are very, very slow with ball marks all over them.
You can repair four marks and still have many left . And the speed of the greens are worse than a poor municipal course. A 10 ft. putt is more like a 20 footer..

The greenside bunkers are more like poor waste bunkers which have not been turned over in a year and hardly ever raked.. The bunkers are more like hard pan with no sand under the ball. This is poor for a course that is normally so much better..

I hope the course superintendent gets things straightened out because normally this course is the best semi=private course anywhere in Atlanta or in the Southeast..

Excellent course. Okay shape and okay pace of play.

Have played out here probably 10 times. Great design lots of tee boxes for every type of golfer. Course was in solid shape. It gets a lot of play and is in good shape for the amount it gets. The pace of play was about 4.5 hours they stack them every 5 minutes. We had to wait a minute or two on every hole the first 9. Food and snacks are great.

overcrowded, bunkers in terrible shape

Greens are healthy, but are slow and chewed up from ball marks and spike marks that are not repaired.

Every bunker on the course is in terrible shape. They have completely let them go. Hard, packed sand in every one.

Water coolers were empty on a hot afternoon. Called early in the round to ask that they be refilled, but the problem was not addressed.

I really like this course (great layout), but the issues above made it a bad experience. I would not recommend this course in it's current condition and management.

H2O

Great layout. HOT day. Very crowded due to reduced rates. 5 hour round. ugh. NO WATER IN COOLERS! Also, bunkers need sand. Greens long but understandable due to play and heat....not to mention glfers who don't repair ball marks!

Crowded

The course was in great shape! There were far too many people resulting in a long day! I would estimate a 25-30 minute delay in our start time and the same carried over to the round.

Took forever

I know it was a beautiful day on Saturday July 12, but our round was miserably long. To start, when we arrived we learned the course was running a little late with tee times - they'd overbooked the course and were out of golf carts. Additionally, we learned that the tee times were spaced 5 minutes apart, instead of the customary & - 12 minutes.

We finally were on the first tee 40 minutes after our tee time and only finished 15 holes out of sheer frustration for the pace. We hit our first tee shot at 3:50, and decided to walk off the course after seeing the wait at the 16th hole shortly after 8:10.

I played this course many times in the past 10 years and will not be returning back if they continually put as many groups on the course as possible, without regard for pace.

Over Booked

Over the years this course has really gone down, they seem to be more interested in getting as many players on the course rather than making sure it is an enjoyable round. We actually got our money back and left.

One of the Best Courses in N. Atlanta

Excellent facilities, very friendly & attentive staff, the course was in great condition, the greens fees are high enough to keep the hackers off and maintain a pace of play around 3.5 to 4 hrs, probably one of the best public golfing experiences in metro Atlanta.
