About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Golfer Reviews
First time, we’ll see if will play again
Course is beautiful, very well maintained, and staff is extremely friendly. This is my first round in California. Paired up with locals as a single - great guys!
Perhaps though, a marshall could ensure slow players allow players behind them to pass through cause it took all of almost 6 hours to play a round. I hear this may be normal in SoCal though and everyone was super chill about waiting. Fortunately I didn’t feel rushed from behind though the group behind did start hitting into us on the back nine.
10th Hole is up and running!
No more course maintenance, hole 10 is up and running. Greens were super fast.
Feedback on Course Conditions and Customer Service
Dear Black Gold Golf Club Management,
I am a golfer who, although I do not have the opportunity to play at Black Gold Golf Club very often, always try to visit whenever I can because of its excellent reputation for course layout, restaurant service, and overall golfing experience, despite the long drive from my home in Downtown Los Angeles.
Last Saturday, October 24, I was fortunate to find a tee time at a reasonable rate and enjoyed a round at your course. Overall, the experience was not bad. However, due to the course conditions that day, we were required to keep our golf carts on the cart paths, which significantly slowed down the pace of play. In addition, the group ahead of us was moving extremely slowly, almost as if they were conducting an on-course golf lesson. As a result, we barely managed to finish our final hole before it became too dark to clearly see the golf balls.
I understand that course maintenance and playing conditions can sometimes make certain restrictions necessary. However, I was disappointed that no one from the pro shop or course management informed us in advance or offered an apology for the inconvenience. While I am not necessarily suggesting that a discount on the green fee was warranted, I believe that a brief explanation and acknowledgment of the inconvenience would have been a thoughtful gesture toward the golfers affected.
As a relatively high-priced public golf course, with green fees often exceeding $100, I believe this level of customer service is important to maintaining customer satisfaction and enhancing the club's overall reputation and image.
I hope you will take this feedback into consideration and continue your efforts to improve course conditions and provide an enjoyable experience for all golfers.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Best regards,
Sungjoo Jang

Did not receive Conf Reminder
Did not play the course, Golf Now did not send reminder. Missed the tee time. They still charged me....That sucked!!!
Did Not Play No Reminder
I usually get a reminder from Golf Now for the tee times. Did now get one for this so we missed it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've golfed a couple times a year for the last 15+ years at Black Gold. Never had any issues and they're pretty consistent as far as quality, atmosphere, course conditions are concerned.
My recent round was no different. Every staff member from the bag drop guys to the pro shop, starter, marshall, beverage cart lady, maintenance crew, were pleasant and helpful.
Course was in good shape tee boxes thru the greens. Greens has been punched the week before and were on the mend. The staff here has always been good about making the green maintenance schedule very well known to the golfer. They also drop the rates pretty significantly, which not many courses do anymore arojmd So Cal.
Pace was good as well @ 4.25 hours. 2:00 on the front and 2:15 on the back.
Excellent course
Black Gold course was long and challenging. I would highly recommend the course and make sure you use a cart as it has many ups and down.
The only negative was the course was being aerated and the greens were pinched with sand. I can’t wait to play later when the greens are perfect.
Why I Wouldn’t Recommend
If the cost of a foursome is going to push $600 and I’m going to spend hundreds with the cart service, then I believe it’s reasonable to expect the following two things:
1. Don’t turn on your sprinklers on the greens on consecutive holes during the middle of the round. If there is a reason you have to do this, then time it better. You basically disrupted my group’s ability to putt on back to back holes. When we asked the greenskeeper about it, he stopped his cart, stared at us for about 5 seconds, and then just drove off without saying a word. And his running away had nothing to do with language; this Caucasian man clearly understood and spoke English.
2. Don’t let singles sneak on the back 9 in the 1pm hour. We had back to back individuals cut in on is at the turn, and it ground the pace down to a halt. Took 3 hours to play the back 9 as a result.
Good conditions; course repair nearly complete
Excellent conditions on 8/14/26; they had an SCGA tourney early in the day. Driving range is open again, putting green nearly complete but not open yet, hole 10 has been repaired after the 'storm drain' project but regular tee box not open yet, staff says it should be open around Oct 1, they're waiting for the sod to take hold. Other than that - excellent course, fun track, good upkeep and conditions!
Good shape, extremely slow round @ 6:10am!
Not sure how you can play an almost 5 hour round at 6:10am on a weekday? The foursome ahead of us didn’t even let our 3’some through even though ae waited on them from the 5th hole. Other than that, course was in great shape.
