Protocols and Signage Problems
What a magnificently challenging course! This course is exquisite gem hidden in the desert like drought conditions of CA.l It has a great layout that will force you to return to do better your next time!
The greens are in superb condition! This is contrasted with drought conditions that make many fairways parched and bare. Advice? Lift clean and place rules should apply even if the proshop doesn't post them.
Because of the challenging 140 slope rating play can be occasionally slow which is totally understandable given the difficulty of the course.. Even the best golfers have had to re-tee or look for lost balls. Not to worry, since you'll appreciate the suberb challenge for such a low price!
Be aware the proshop staff might try to start you off ahead of your tee time, because of the pressure on them to keep play going up to speed. As well the sign age of cart use is poor!! Sure it is posted in the cart above the steering wheel, but if you want to play the course to your best, you'd be looking, planning your shots on the fairways, and much more concerned how to maneuver the cart
with the 90 degree rule to save the fairways, up and down huge slopes, rather than reading the fine print card hanging over head in the cart. Why not simply post the cart use rules on the paths??.
Not to worry! The people who play this course are mostly wonderful golfers, who also are looking for the problem solving experience of trying to conquer this course!
Best of luck! Don't pass up Roddy Ranch!
Hot and Slow
The course is always challenging with pin placements and sand traps but we didn't see a course marshall all afternoon and the foursome in front of us was two holes behind the next foursome. very frustrating especially since it was so hot.
Thank you for your review. We apologize your pace of play was not what you would have liked for it to have been. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Its tuff
It was great round. little windy.need more some sand in bunker.
Thank you for your review! We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Great course. Enjoyable for all golfers
Great course.
Best value
Friendly staff
Will play any timeby
Thank you for your great review! We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Brown is the new Green
Fairways had a lot of dirt spots, greens where in good condition. Can't see paying more then $25 to play here. Slow play and not in good condition
Thank you for your review as well as your understanding of the situation the current drought in California has put all golf courses (and many lawns!) in. We do offer many great specials online and are so happy to hear to you found one! We hope to see you back for another round soon.
Rutty Ranch
I played here three times inJuly 2015 preparing for a tournament her. RR is a really good layout that is really hurt with poor conditions through the green. The fairways have constant low spots and holes created by tufts of grass and the constant low spots between them, caused by the lack of irrigation. The bunkers are also normally hard and crusty, and receiving little maintenance. On my last three trips to the ball machine there were no buckets, so I had to take the cart over to the range area and find some (one wonders why the staff does not check on this, and/or buy a few more buckets). The greens, however, were in nice shape, so it is a mixed bag..
Enjoyable round despite the drought
Roddy ranch is an interesting course, they cultivate a "cowboy" vibe which is a bit different. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, they were even able to get me out earlier than my reserved tee time. The course itself has an interesting layout with many different types of holes set in a links like style. I would say that it is too hilly to walk comfortably, and a warning to those planning on only playing 9 holes, the 9th hole does NOT go back to the clubhouse, you have to play all 18 to return to the clubhouse. The predominant weather condition was a two club wind the entire time. This was in some ways good in that it helped keep things from getting too hot, but it was a bear to play through the wind and score well. The course conditions were definitely affected by the drought. There was a fair amount of hard pan and dried out areas. Although the greens were in great shape, I found dried out hard pan lies even close to the greens. A tip for golfers with multiple wedges, go with the low bounce wedges on this course. I used the "two dot" bounce on my Cleveland wedges, and I had a few bladed chips due to the tight lies. I had one wedge with "one dot" and it worked much better. Overall, I really enjoyed this course and I would play it again..
Thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the course so much that you plan on coming back for another round. We look forward to it!
Extremely challenging layout, a tough challenge for experienced golfers
This was a rare day at Roddy. Pace of play was amazing and the Wind wasn't hollowing. We tee'd off around 4 PM on a Saturday afternoon, got 18 holes in no problem.
Staff is always great here.
Course definitely seemed a little dry but considering the state of California it's understandable. Greens are always very fast and very challenging, really tough to find the speeds of the greens.
I love this place though. Every hole is completely different from the next. Many long tough par 3s, par 4s & par 5 but for every tough hole there's a favorable hole waiting around the corner.
The wind usually picks up in the afternoons but we just got one of those rare days. If there's a lot of wind I would definitely avoid playing here, really really challenging!!
Bunkers definitely need some sand, sand is very limited which makes it's very tough to pick the ball.
Fairways are definitely spotty with some brown patches..
Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to hear that you enjoy the course and have had many rounds here! We also appreciate your understanding of the drought situation which we try vigilantly to combat. We hope to see you back soon!
Worth a try
This was a tough course: narrow fairways, well-placed sand traps, up-hill holes, and windy! For the price its worth checking out, but I might wait a while before returning. If your up for a challenge, go for it. If you miss a fairway, good luck finding your ball in the tall grass that surrounds the course.
Thank you for your review! We are glad that you enjoy the challenge Roddy Ranch has to offer. We look forward to your next round!
You get what you pay for
Would go back to this place because I haven't been there in a while. The price was very good however that seem to attract too many golfers and they were spaced too close together. After about the second hole I can tell this was going to be a long day on the golf course. The drought didn't seem to help the situation either. The edges of the fairway were rough and dead due to lack of water. The bunkers were hard like concrete and needed attention. It seems that in the past the wind has always been a factor. It didn't help that the group in front of us were measuring their putts and taking way too much time
Thank you for your feedback. We hope to see you for another round soon!
Hit it straight
Great course, but not for beginners. Slice the ball, and you will have a hard time finding it. Always a challenge. Keep in mind, brown is the new green, so some parts of the course are not as plush green as we would like to see them., but that is expected.
Thank you for your review, and further for understanding the challenges brought to California golf courses during the current drought situation. We hope to see you for another tee time soon!
Fun At The Ranch
Excellent course lay out. Course can be challenging, but positioning on just about every hole is essential. Some fairways are wide enough to take risks, but hazards are present everywhere.
Thank you for the great review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course - we like a challenge too! Come back soon!
Great Score for this Golfer
The winds was whipping and my first 18 was a solid 100 plus -- couldn't get the driver to go anywhere but into the weeds. Out of a desire for self justification -- usually a character defect that leads to no good thing -- I decided to pay for a replay. The second 18 was magnificent for this golfer, an 87 (2 lost balls, in the sand 5 times#. Every green was a two putt save only 2 three puts. I landed in a green side sand trap, after only one of two lost ball drops, and then pitched it out directly into the cup #nothing but net!) for a par save 5. Whahoo, "ride'em cowboy" as Roddy might say.
So, how is this a review of the course? Any golfer will tell you that a great round makes the course somehow beautiful. The course "was in great shape". Hey, I stayed there for 36 holes, didn't I? The staff was very courteous. The maintenance guy even gave me a fresh soapy bucket to clean off my clubs when I returned the cart.
An 87 for me? Unheard of. Never happens! I really enjoyed Roddy Ranch. Fun!

Thank you so much for your review! We are always pleased to hear of a great experience at Roddy Ranch. We look forward to your next round - and the one right after it if you play 36 again!
Golf
Considering the drought, the tees and greens were very good. Old man in the pro shop is extremely rude. May no play here again because of his attitude but really fun course.
Thank you for your review. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the course but are sorry that you feel you were treated poorly. Would you please send me an email at julieteetimes@aol.com to discuss further? We would appreciate some more detail so we can address the situation with our staff.
Worth the drive from anywhere
Great course. I love when you use every club in the bag. Not just drive as far as you can and pitch to recover. Plus when the wind kicks up, using different clubs is a must. Greens rolled great! The only thing is the bunkers need some work. Different from hole to hole, but improvements needed.
Thank you very much for your review! We always appreciate hearing about our golfers' experiences as well as comments on how we may improve. We look forward to your next round!
Deals but dry
Obviously the drought has courses struggling to keep up the conditions but overall was impressed with the conditions of the fairways and greens. The areas around bunkers and toughs were sometimes challenging.
Thank you for your feedback! We strive to keep the course in excellent condition and appreciate your coming out for a round with us!
Good course in Antioch
Nice course, with lots of long holes. Considering the drought conditions in the state, the course is in really good shape. I would definitely play here again.
Thank you for your review and consideration! We look forward to your next visit.
Dano
Very windy conditions and extreme drought negatively impacted our experience. We recognize the course cannot do anything about either but so salute the sensible approach the course is pursuing to balance the drought. We will definitely come back but on a less windy day. Thank yo
Thank you for your review! We look forward to your next visit!
Over Rated
Made the drive from Sacramento because I'd heard good things about the course. Pretty disappointed. The course design was excellent and very challenging. However the condition was deplorable. Can't blame hard pan greenside bunkers on the drought. And when there was sand, it was a mud pit. Poorly maintained areas around the green with clumpy bare patches where tight fairway should be, or green side apron or rough. The greens rolled very well, but a couple had erosions within the green complexes. Pace of play was terrible until they finally did something about a 5 some in front of us that had us on a 3+hour front 9. Perhaps this course is better in the fall. I would not pay it again until maybe late September. Very over rated and not worth the drive.
Thank you for your feedback. We try to provide the best course conditions, we appreciate you acknowledging the drought situation. We hope to see you for another round soon!
Great course for the price
Although the pace of play was a little slow, the course is in great shape. Lots of elevation changes, a bit breezy and always a challenge. The staff is always excellent and the cart girl was gorgeous which is always a bonus.
Thank you so much for the great review! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us and look forward to your next round!
