Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

This course has great features
Greens are bumpy and fast not a good combination some roll pretty good though. Everything else is great.
If you like tough greens
Like playing a course that not only requires course management due to tee to green layout of every hole but greens that require determining breaks and speed to be successful this is the place.
Shadow Lakes
Every hole requires player to be able to manage shot and decision where you want to play your next shot from tee to green.
Excellent Conditions and Challenging Layout
Had a great time at Shadow Lake yesterday! The fairways and greens are in excellent shape, and the layout with its elevation changes makes for a challenging and enjoyable round. Already looking forward to my next visit!
Love the layout
The main thing I like about this course is the layout. There are several holes unlike any others on the courses I play. Second is that the bunkers have real sand in them- another unique feature in Ncal (I'm looking at you Chardonnay). The greens were in good shape, not too fast and not too slow. There were a few putts that were knocked off line by bumps but I would have to say they were pretty good. . Now the bad news - the tees and the fairways are a little iffy. Although there is water on the course clearly watering is difficult for them. I know courses have to choose where they spend their money and this is a low priority for them. Clubhouse is pretty informal- no food service that I could see. The price I paid is unusually low because I used a tee off discount on a deal time. Normally, much more expensive.
I'll return at some point I'm sure.
Just ok
Losing some of its shine.Course clearly not in as good of shape as it’s reopening.Tee boxes are in fair shape at best. While we were playing they began punching and Sanding greens in front of our group. No previous notice from pro shop.kind of disappointing
packed course
played 14 holes only
started 1pm to 5 pm
golf course packed
will not do that again
Currently in grrreat shape since the cold weather has begun. Greens crisp, fast, and look beautiful. Fairways look great and tight and green.
Not taken care of
Once a beautiful course nice lay out good views.
Played yesterday fair ways are painted. Like playing in concrete. No drink cart. Limited club house. For $72 green fees not worth it I could see $30 for a course they don’t maintain. Disappointed use to love the course. Was happy when reopened. Now may never play again.
Glad to have Shadow Lakes back!
I always liked Shadow Lakes and was disappointed when it closed a few years ago. Having it back has been great. It's obvious the staff is working hard to bring it fully up to snuff. (Greens are slick and bunkers are already in good shape.) In the meantime, I've recently enjoyed three early morning rounds during weekdays and been able to breeze around the course. I kind of hope it takes a while for everyone else to figure out it's open. Really enjoying it.
Don't play on the Weekends
Great to see this course back up and running, the quirky layout is fun to tackle now ans then.
The course is growing into itself and greens are coming around, with the new greens (new 9 holes opened) basically perfect, and older ones just average.
The main issue is 9 minute tee times, clubs keep doing this and thinking it helps, it doesn't. They lost 20 people coming back because it was so slow. This paired with new golfers thinking they shoumd wait for the furthest player from the flag every time, and taking forever to play even a basic chip or outt, no Marshall (even though they said one was out there), a server who tried to make us feel like 5.30 hour round is normal on a Sunday, or just general lack of any flow during the entire round.
The course has a great chance to keep all golfers coming back, but it doesn't come with 9 minute tee times and lack of Marshall's.
Won't be playing a weekend again.
Liking it more n more
Only played here twice so far but I’m starting to like it. It’s a solid track with some quirky elevation changes but it forces you to use all the clubs in your bag and conditions are great considering a couple months ago it was looking sad… they had just opened the full 18 again and especially considering that, you have to say they’ve done a great job. Amenities are lacking a bit but the golf is good.
