Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

Enjoyable course
I've always loved playing here, the only complaint about this previous round was that the course was a bit sloppy. It seemed as though there was a bit of an irrigation issue because despite the lack of rain we've had for some time now, several areas were very soggy. I'm not sure if they over watered or what but I had a few balls lodged deep in ground where that should never be a problem. Nonetheless, it was a fun round as always and I'll definitely be back.
Needs work
Needs some work, very slow pace of play, marshal useless. Staff uninterested in helping. Overall not a pleasant day at the course. Stay away
Nice Layout
Lots of fun challenging holes. Pretty wide open. Hilly but not a bunch of blind shots. We had never played there before but we worked our way around this very nice layout. A little work need to be done on the course in certain places. But I think things are getting better as the economy improves. Overall a very fun, fair, challenging course. Wait until you get to 16 and 17 ... have fun.
Enjoyable, great people.
It was 107 when we finished at 4pm on July 4th. Felt like we were able to light the fireworks with our finger tips.
Quick round, mostly due to lack of people on the course. Found the course in great shape though the greens were just a little on the slow side, but true. Very enjoyable round.
Great course needs just a tweak here and there
I always felt if they just put in a little more effort to keep this course up it would rank amongst the best in the bay area and its seems as if they finally are, it has a great layout. The 16th hole needs some ruff added around the lake so you don't go in hitting a 7 iron of the tee on this challenging down hill par 4.Also the on the 5th hole they need to add ruff along the right side of the fairway sou you don't go in the hazard balls just seem to vacuum there if you slightly miss right and roll for ever.Last but not least if they have on and off points to the fairway like Wente does the course will be alot easier for them to maintane. Along with keeping good sand in the bunkers and keeping the grass around them up wala you have a 5 star course!!!
Great layout
A number of challenging holes. Great use of elevation change throughout the course. I would have given this 5 stars except that the wind was horrible which is the case a lot in Brentwood.
Great course, better stay on the fairway. Bunkers get too much water.
I like Shadow Lakes, you constantly see the staff there being proactive in regards to maintaining the course. There is always a marshal on the course and they seem to make sure the pace is as good as it can be.
Still a good course to play.
Even though the course conditions are not as pristine as they were when originally opened, the course is still challenging. The fairways are not lush but very playable with excellent roll on the greens. With the rather inexpensive afternnon green fees offered daily on golfnow, it is a steal.
This course has a lot of elevation changes
This is a course for the more experienced golfer i found it to be very challenging. I will play here again.
Hard course because of the hills and wind.
Enjoyed the course . It was a little windy the day I played. The staff was very helpful. GREAT views from the top of some of the hills.
Well designed challenging but very playable.
Course was in very good condition and greens seemed true.
Challenging elevations
Fun course to play. Conditions were good and well manicured. The course had friendly staff.
Fun elevation changes. Good mix of both target golf and "grip it and rip it"
I've played this course several times over the last couple of years, and although it remains a reasonable bargain - especially for families as there is a significant green fee discount for juniors - the course seems to be in a slow steady decline. Last time out the fairways were full of dead spots and ground under repair, the bunkers were rock hard, with weeds encroaching around the edges and taking hold in the bunker itself, and the greens were lumpy and slow. Most of the ball washers near the tee boxes were dry, and the ones that did have water smelled like rotten eggs. There are three other competing courses within a mile of Shadow Lakes, so some improvement is needed if they want to retain customers.
Challenging golf course.
Exciting, never a dull moment. Seemed like we were always hitting uphill, downhill, over hazards and into the wind.
great course!
Course was in great shape! The fourth whole looks a lot better around the lake.
Great value
I. Played this course 2 days in a row, wednesday was a slow round only because it was 2 for 1 Wednesday and the weather was great so a lot of people were out. The next day was a lot better, pace was fast and conditions were great and will be even better in another week since greens were plugged a few weeks ago. Great course for the money.
Fun day at Shadow Lakes ...
Had a good time ... greens recently sanded but that was OK.
value is always very good here
Unfortunately, I think Golf Now needs to be a little more strict on the aeration status of a course. The greens at Shadow were definitely punched and not fully recovered. I think Golf Now should require courses to state levels of aeration...aerated within past week, aerated within past two weeks, or no reference when they are "fully recovered".
greens in horrible shape unputtable need to rolled
very bad experience with playing experience and the attitude of the marshal I nor my friends won't be returning to this course again. I will be sharing this with my other golf buddies
