Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

Very well kept and beautifully designed.
a wonderful course to play. They had a grass range to warm up on, a great course layout, very hilly but not ridiculously challenging, and a wonderful staff. The greens were just aerated or seeded recently, so they played slow, but I can imagine on warm days, they would normally play pretty quick and challenging. Overall a great course, and for a 19$ hot deal, unbeatable.
This is a good course
Lot of area under repair on the fair ways. the should of only fixed it a little at a time.
good value for this course
Nice, easy but fun layout but happen to play right after fairways were aerated but no warning from golfnow
GOOD FOR THE PRICE
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A (GPS) THE YARDAGE MARKERS, AT TIMES CAN BE HARD TO FIND.THE FIRST HOLE IS VERY UP HILL,ADD AT LEAST ONE TO TWO MORE CLUB LENGTHS ON YOUR APPROCH SHOT,SHORT COULD VERY UGLY.TRUST MEEEEE
The hits and misses
OK, this is a good course. A little challenging in some spots, but overall, I like it. I don't play it a lot because of the heat during the summer months. But when I have, it's been a good experience.
The staff was less than friendly in the pro shop.
When i arrived to check in the person behind the counter treated me like I was a bother. We had to wait up tp 25 minutes on the tee box for our tee time even though the previous foursome were off the #1 green. Later on we caught up to he foursome that suddenly became a fivesome. This was on a Friday afternoon and when we questioned the Marshall his comment was they are scratch players. We waited for them all day long. I don't plan on playing at Shadow Lakes for a long time.
Course condition affects rating
I have ventured the 1 hour drive to Shadow Lakes many times to enjoy the value through GolfNow but my last visit has me on hold until I hear from someone that the conditions have improved. The course has easy, moderate and difficult holes but adding unnecessarily to the challenge were the patches of grass found throughout the fairways. If you visit their website they make a point of their "greatly improved playing surfaces" but that is not what I found. Adding the 5+ hour round and wind made the day less enjoyable, mind you it was still great being on a golf course. For now I will continue past Vasco Road and head down to Diablo Grande for better conditions, it is worth the additional 15 minutes of drive time from Newark.
