Eaglewood Resort & Spa
About
Located just northwest of Chicago, the Eaglewood Resort & Spa opened for play in 1932. It is a classic championship golf course, built during a time when the long drive was unheard of. The 6,017-yard layout seems short by today's standards, but the course still offers a formidable challenge. It features rolling fairways lined with century-old oak trees and wildly undulating, difficult-to-read greens with varying speeds that fluctuate depending on the weather, season, and even time of day. There are generous landing areas but they are bordered by deep, strategically placed bunkers that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The carefully sculpted and plentiful bunkers are a prominent feature of the layout. Eaglewood's scenic landscape also has three lakes that come into play on eight holes.

Fun course, lots to think about
A fun course that can offer a lot to all levels of player. Not very long, I would play it differently next time.
Bunkers were a bit heavy and could do with some sand.
One thing I found a bit silly were the heavy front to back slopes on a few green complexes. Leaving the ball on the wrong side of the hole it was near impossible to get the ball to stop with the speed of the greens. Not sure that level of penalty is necessary for a recreational course.
Absurd Pin Placement
Ridiculous pin placement - half of the pins were on steep inclines making the putty very, very tricky. Sand traps were mostly hardpan. Note that the holes here are very close and on top of one another which makes play a bit hazardous especially is people are off with their swings.
SAND FLAGS AND PIN POSITION ALL SUB PAR
There are sand traps (not all) in poor condition. There isn't the needed 2-4 inches of sand at the bottom needed to clear the high walls of the trap. Instead there is hard pan at the bottom of the trap.
The course fails to use red, white and blue flags to indicate pin position and there is no pin position number posted. You need to guess at the pin position unless you have a laser range finder.
Often the pin position is ridiculous. The pin is positioned so that short putts roll back down off the green.

Course is nice
The course is very nice and in great shape. The pace of play however was horrific. Basically 6 groups all bunched together and waiting on each other. Rangers could of got ahead of the problem, but it got worse as we played on.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Eaglewood Resort & Spa, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Great course, wild greens.
This course is challenging and full of interesting hole layouts. The greens and hole placement can be tricky. Having hole 17 as a Par 4 is a crime against beginning golfers and it’s HDCP as the 5th hardest hole is a 😉.
Highly recommend this course.
