Eaglewood Resort & Spa
About
Located just northwest of Chicago, the Eaglewood Resort & Spa opened for play in 1932. It is a classic championship golf course, built during a time when the long drive was unheard of. The 6,017-yard layout seems short by today's standards, but the course still offers a formidable challenge. It features rolling fairways lined with century-old oak trees and wildly undulating, difficult-to-read greens with varying speeds that fluctuate depending on the weather, season, and even time of day. There are generous landing areas but they are bordered by deep, strategically placed bunkers that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The carefully sculpted and plentiful bunkers are a prominent feature of the layout. Eaglewood's scenic landscape also has three lakes that come into play on eight holes.

Only took me 30 years! Photo submitted by rjhmu on 11/04/2012
Fun track
I really enjoyed playing Eaglewood. It's not very long, but it has hilly terrain and lots of trees to make it a challenge. They also keep it in really good shape. Bunker maintenance is always a challenge in the Midwest, and we just had some heavy rain, so I wasn't expecting too much there. But the greens and fairways were well groomed and they kept the rough at a fair length. I highly recommend this course for a fun track if you don't need 6500 or more yards.
Staff was insufferable concerning their rules - would not permit cart use even though I had disability placard.
only front 9 is open
this course only had 9 holes because of flooding on the back nine. i should have been notified this when booking this tee time and at least been told by the starter when checking in. i was told by a maintenance worker on the 10th tee box. please refund me half my green fee.
9 holes only!
back nine is closed because of flooding and was not told by golfnow or the starter. maintenance told us on the 10th tee box.
Got to course and the back 9 was closed because of flooding even though I had paid full price for 18 holes. Eaglewood said I needed to talk with GolfNow but there is no way to get a partial refund from them and no phone number to call. At least give me a voucher for nine holes. Nice course though and I enjoy golfing there. Too bad the deck is closed as it is a nice place to eat and have a beer after golfing.
My park district course is cheaper, longer, more challenging, and in better condition
Bunkers have not been touched yet and there are plants growing in there. There is also “valleys” in the bunkers where water was running through. Every green had tons of ball marks that were never fixed. Every hole is very short except par 3s. There were no signs at the tees. There was several young people riding carts which is supposed to be prohibited. Paying over 40 a person to walk is crazy for these conditions in my opinion. I do not recommend
Bad weather
Lousy day but course was in pretty good condition and we never got close to other golfers
Second time playing
Pretty good course for the price. Definitely has its challenges but also a few easy short holes to even out the difficulty. Only a few OB zones since the holes run alongside each other so you could also end up in another fairway with a hard slice. Also a lot of the bunkers are unbelievably steep and not even worth trying to hit out of sometimes. I will say the course was in pretty great shape for late in the season so it was an enjoyable round all around.
Great course
I love this course and play it every time I’m in the Chicago area on Business. It’s a short drive or Uber from Ohare great lay out and course conditions. It’s not terribly long but offers great opportunity to score with several reachable. Risk/ reward par fours. Excellent vale for the money with a great restaurant/bar and connected to a wonder Frank Llyod Wright designed resort .
All and a great play
Cooler and Windier Weather Arrives
With the cooler and windier fall weather arriving in the past week, I wanted to give myself a short course to play today. My previous visits here have usually been enjoyable so I was looking forward to another go on what I find to be an easy track. Since I was playing as a single, the starter was kind enough to let me jump out ahead of several foursomes that had teed off just a few minutes before I arrived. Thankfully this allowed me to play the front 9 rather quickly and when I encountered the group ahead of me, I just took the opportunity to practice chipping and putting while giving them space.
I thought the course was in decent condition especially the greens which were rolling well for a late season round. The tees and fairways were a bit shaggy compared to a number of the other courses that I play, but overall they were still in decent shape for the most part.
My only complaints about the course conditions would be: A) most of the bunkers I noticed around the course appeared to be washed out and/or in need of more sand, and B) there were a few hole locations cut on 2 or 3 greens that were in unfair / illegal locations. As a former assistant superintendent, I have cut countless tournament hole locations that are difficult, but that's not equivalent to the several illegal hole location that I encountered today.
Flying Golf
This is a great Drive and wedge course. If you hit the ball really high you might hit a passing plane landing!
Great course
I truly enjoyed the banquet, food and the golf course. Great service and staff. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are tremendous. We truly enjoyed our weekend at this great golf resort.
