About

Type Resort

Length 6017 yards
Slope 120
Rating 68.2

Located just northwest of Chicago, the Eaglewood Resort & Spa opened for play in 1932. It is a classic championship golf course, built during a time when the long drive was unheard of. The 6,017-yard layout seems short by today's standards, but the course still offers a formidable challenge. It features rolling fairways lined with century-old oak trees and wildly undulating, difficult-to-read greens with varying speeds that fluctuate depending on the weather, season, and even time of day. There are generous landing areas but they are bordered by deep, strategically placed bunkers that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The carefully sculpted and plentiful bunkers are a prominent feature of the layout. Eaglewood's scenic landscape also has three lakes that come into play on eight holes.

Fun layout with a lot of character

Had the opportunity to stop by Eaglewood during the BMW Championship at next-door Medinah. It's a fun layout with a unique mix of holes and a lot of character. Sloping greens and deep bunkers are solid defenses for the 6,000-yard, par 72, as are three longer par-3s. It's a busy course (30,000 rounds annually), but the staff manages to keep the turf in strong shape. Director of golf operations David Fazio and assistant general manager Adam Klos are very accommodating. The Spring Brook Creek comes into play on No. 6, as winds its way through five area courses: Medinah, Eaglewood, Itasca, The Preserve, and Butler National. In a suburban area with a lot of golf, Eaglewood is worth a visit.

Short but has it's defenses

Course was in good shape. The guy checking in was not friendly, but who cares I guess. Course is short but greens are small and sloped. Pin places are tough and from the back all the par 3s aside from one are fairly challenging. Pace of play was great for a Sunday, we played in less than 4 hours with a foresome. Tge price I thought was just tight

Played the course several times this season and it’s always a fun course to play. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Fairways and greens are well maintained and everyone in my golf group is always looking forward to our next round on this course.

Quality Course

It had rained the night before and early in the morning, so the course was especially wet. The course was tight and if you slice or hook excessively, you'll be on the next hole's fairway or two holes over. The developer fit 18 holes on a small plot of land, but the course is well maintained and offers challenging holes.

Always a Good Time to Play

This is about the fourth time I've played Eaglewood, and it always a good time. The course is beautiful and they have several short par 4 holes that makes birdies possible even from the tips. The course is well maintained and has its share of challenges especially traps guarding the greens. They increase the challenge of the short holes by strategic pin placement. Most of the times I've been there the course is never overcrowded and is a hidden gem. The other thing I really appreciate about this course is that the carts have a cooler attached to put your beverages in with ice and they have ball a club washers attached. Such thoughtfulness for a special course.

Resort Style Course

Fun course. Very short and fairly easy. Great place to bring someone that might be a high handicapper. Greens were rolling slow when we played but I can see how they can protect against low scores if they were running faster. Simple drive from downtown Chicago/Airport.
