Eaglewood Resort & Spa
About
Located just northwest of Chicago, the Eaglewood Resort & Spa opened for play in 1932. It is a classic championship golf course, built during a time when the long drive was unheard of. The 6,017-yard layout seems short by today's standards, but the course still offers a formidable challenge. It features rolling fairways lined with century-old oak trees and wildly undulating, difficult-to-read greens with varying speeds that fluctuate depending on the weather, season, and even time of day. There are generous landing areas but they are bordered by deep, strategically placed bunkers that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The carefully sculpted and plentiful bunkers are a prominent feature of the layout. Eaglewood's scenic landscape also has three lakes that come into play on eight holes.

Only took me 30 years! Photo submitted by rjhmu on 11/04/2012
Good layout but too tight, even dangerous
First time playing here. We liked the layout but many holes are too close to each other and other players were landing balls in the middle of the fairways we were playing. As did we. A ball came out of the air from over 150 yards back as we approached our green. The person that struck that ball said they had been hit twice on that course on previous rounds. I would not play there again based on the danger of getting hit.
Good and bad
We play this course several times each season. The layout is good, conditions are adequate for a resort course. Some greens can be tough and pin placements can be diabolical, which is a real issue for pace of play. In addition, the course seems to always be overbooked, again resulting in slow play. The off corse amenities - specifically food and beverage service is poor, slow, and inconsistent. Finally, how can any course NOT HAVE WATER stations! Especially in the hot summer months and with very slow beverage - and sometimes no - cart service. This is so easy to offer...why don't they?
Lovely Course
Wide open fairways, well kept greens, friendly staff. Rental clubs available.
It's a Resort Course
It's in good shape, a fun layout. and some challenging holes on the back nine. Expect slower play because it's a resort course with less experienced golfers and outings. Also, be aware of errant shots and chaos as there are a few places where multiple holes converge.
Great course
Great course from a layout perspective. It can get a bit congested in the first 10 holes, with the potential for errant shots getting close to you, so be careful. Green keeper placed pin positions in the most difficult locations that day, so stay below the cup. Drop a ball by the hole on #2 or #3 and the ball could roll 5 or 6 feet down the slope. That's if you're lucky. It was bit ridiculous at one point, so challenging but can slow down play quite a bit. Like everywhere, prices have gone through the roof, so I don't play here as often anymore.
Forgiving Course
Course is wide open and forgiving. Holes are spread out enough and pace of play was good. Not overly difficult but a good course to play early in the year.
Fun Short Game Winner.
Fairways are wide and forgiving, you can find your ball if you hit into the tree areas. What really is the challenge is the approach to and the greens. Bunkers protect the greens on many holes and the pin location and slope test your chipping and putting skills. Tee boxes and greens both in great shape. Fun course with a lot of elevation changes.
Always a classic course, but not always the fastest play
I have played here many times in the past and this place will always have a special place in my heart. It's a well kept and entertaining change of pace from a lot of the surrounding courses in the area. Overall course is in pretty good condition this time of year, but the rate of play was terrible. Took over 5 hours to finish with just two. Seemed like the course may have been overbooked or the tee times are too close since we literally started ten minutes early. Can't complain too much since we were lucky to not get paired up, but still it was a long day with a bunch of waiting.
challenging.
It's a short course , but the layout makes it challenging.
115 slope??
115 slope? Surely you jest! I putted well, just not well enough. Only one three putt, but only one one-putt outside of 5 feet. Let me add that the depth of the bunkers proved problematic. 115? More like 120. Nevertheless, had a good time.
Improved bunkers but get some rakes!
Lots of bunkers were missing rakes though the sand was much better. One improvement suggestion would be to move up the silver tees on the 12th hole. The silver tees are only 10 yards shorter than the black tees and this hole plays very long for the caliber of players that opt for the silver tees
