About

Type Resort

Length 6017 yards
Slope 120
Rating 68.2

Located just northwest of Chicago, the Eaglewood Resort & Spa opened for play in 1932. It is a classic championship golf course, built during a time when the long drive was unheard of. The 6,017-yard layout seems short by today's standards, but the course still offers a formidable challenge. It features rolling fairways lined with century-old oak trees and wildly undulating, difficult-to-read greens with varying speeds that fluctuate depending on the weather, season, and even time of day. There are generous landing areas but they are bordered by deep, strategically placed bunkers that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The carefully sculpted and plentiful bunkers are a prominent feature of the layout. Eaglewood's scenic landscape also has three lakes that come into play on eight holes.

Slowpokes

Course and staff were great. We got stuck behind a group that was awful, no golf etiquette whatsoever. We were only two, and they would not allow us to play past them. This has nothing to do with the course, but the Ranger could have possibly spend them up or ask them to start playing best ball. Each player was taking approximately 8 to 10 shots on each hole. We were lucky to finish our round in 5 1/2 hours.

Sand traps thumbs down

This course was pretty straight forward a person with a high handicap will do okay. It’s pretty open fairways and Tee box are in great condition. The layout on several holes has rolling hills which are bland pots, I had to drive up to make sure I could hit from the box. The only down side is that their bunkers don’t drain well. If they improve the bunkers it would be a 4 star course.

Not bad but I imagine it’s usually better

This was an odd round. Pace of play was pretty good. Only had to wait on a few tee boxes. For the most part, the course has a fun layout (although it’s very short at just over 6000 yards from the tips) that’s not too challenging or easy. Course was mostly in good condition, the bunkers left something to be desired but weren’t awful either. My on complaint would be that random parts of the course seemed to be weirdly damaged or poorly maintained. For example, the first green was damaged with dead grass everywhere along with a minefield of divots. However, the next green was in perfect shape. I’m guessing some of their maintenance crew has lower standards or skills than the majority of the crew. Overall, for $60 with cart, can’t complain too much.

Enjoyable shorter course but a test!

Nice course, friendly staff...only negative was cart path only..causing pace slow at times. But after the round, go to th spa for a free shower, no strings attached.

The course was under water, storms the night before flooded the fairways and sand traps.

Cart path only which wasn't terrible but fairways shouldn't look like swimming pools.

Summer Rd at Eaglewood

Played a 9am rd Fri before a scramble was set to begin at 10. Course was in great condition. First couple holes the rough was a bit high but they were cutting it as we were playing, so the rest of the holes were in great shape. Greens were fun and tricky to play. Some challenging hole placements on the slopes(my guess to give the scramble outing a fun time!) At full price I would say it's fair, but if you can get a hold of a hot deal it turns into a fantastic deal. I also think they do a deal where if you stay at the resort for a night you get a free rd. Great for a staycation option if youre in the Chicago area. The back tees add the length. The silver tees shorten it up quite a bit to put up some good scores. (Played the black tees this time so no PRs today...) Would play again!

Unorganized course

We showed up on time for our tee time and pulled up to the first hole only to find out there is no one moderating the start of tee times. This being said we pulled up to the first hole of 8 guys on 4 different golf carts all teeing off and joking together . Given the fact they were already 2 people in to their tee off I went back and confronted the front desk about this and they then gave me the option to skip this hole and find a hole that isn’t busy and work my back . That is not the response I was looking for because who would want to do that . I then asked if we can start at the back 9 and even still they gave me a little bit of a hard time with is. This issue with the pace of play was an all day thing and could’ve been prevented if there was a person moderating the tee times and amount of people at a hole.
