Highly recommended.
My wife and I were in Vegas for the week. She played 3 courses with me and I played 2 more on my own. 2 average courses and 3 upscale. I played Mountain Falls on my own since the ratings were fantastic…I now understand why. I got a hot deal but with rack rates at $70 tops, it is well worth the hour drive. Tee boxes, fairways were in excellent shape. Greens were super fast with a lot of undulation, but rolled true. Great layout, water features on the back nine made it feel like a country club. Two negatives are the drive (an hour from Vegas but up and over a mountain pass was cool) and number 2 is the 1200 houses that are in the process of being constructed. There are a lot of bulldozers and hammers, but the course is still worth it in my opinion. Driving range was great…sandwich at the club next door was awesome. Really looks and feels like a private country club. Highly recommended for the price in Vegas.
Great course, great features.
This is a very well maintained course with beautiful greens. It has it’s challenges as regards water and bunker hazards go which makes it an exciting course to play.
worth the trip
I played this course 8 years ago, it was in nice shape then and it is in great shape now. Greens can be challenging, not to many flat lies, and the fairways have their share of slopes as well. I was teamed up with a nice three-some of locals who pointed out the do's and don'ts. I will play it again.
Fast greens
The hot deal I used was a great price for this course. Greens were fast and fairways were in good shape. Play was slow due to the holiday.
Mountain Falls is Great!
We really enjoy the drive out from Vegas and the beautiful scenery and we love Mountain Falls golf course. It was challenging but not to hard. It was in excellent condition and the people are super friendly. Great course all around.
Overbooked
I wanted to play early before it got too hot. I booked a time for 8:45 a.m. but they were totally booked with some men's club and could not get me on. I had to rebook the tee time to be 2:00 pm.
Fairways
Fairways are in terrible condition. Used to be great but now grass is gone, keeping them soaked so you pretty much need to play lift clean and place.
Windy Rainy Day
The course was in good shape and it would have been a better day if it didn't rain on us
I Never Get Bored With This Course
I love Mountain Falls Golf Course. It's always in excellent condition, the layout is challenging, the people are extremely helpful and friendly, and the price is right. What else is there?
I like that the front and back were designed by two different companies - Jack Nicklaus' company designed the front, and Cal Olson designed the back. They play differently, and I like that since I play at Mountain Falls all the time.
The front is more wide open, but with fairway traps that are definitely in play. Avoid them and you have a much better chance at a good score, but the other great obstacle are the greens. I find it much harder to read putts on the front nine. There are also numerous tiered greens that make a two putt frequently difficult.
The back is just as difficult, but for completely different reasons. I have always thought it is easier to string pars on the front, but it's easier to make a birdie or two on the back. The back is much tighter and requires more accuracy off of the tee. If you stay in the fairway, however, you are rewarded with easier greens, overall. But the back also has, in my opinion, the two hardest holes, 12 and 14.
12, a par 4, is narrow off of the tee but you still want to hit a long drive because the approach is downhill to a shallow green. If you have to hit a long iron or more into the green it won't hold. To make things harder, the front right is protected by a difficult trap, and the left is spongy and your ball won't roll onto the green unless you are very lucky. Then the green itself is probably the most difficult on the back.
14 is a par 3 that has an elevated green, a deep bail out area to the right that requires incredible skill and/or luck to pitch out of (honestly, I usually putt it myself). Short there is a stream and rocks. Left is no bargain, the green doesn't hold well and it you have any hook on your shot you will see yourself hit the green, and then your ball ends up in the water. The only "safe" spot is long, the trap in the back is shallow and easy. Then to top it off, the green is difficult and different from the rest of the course.
Two pars on 12 and 14 is an achievement. Both are very capable of generating "others" on your scorecard.
That said, the thing to keep in mind on the back is the rest of the holes are all "gettable", but still challenging and interesting.
Worth the drive to Pahrump, Nevada
What a somewhat hidden gem; well worth the hour or so drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Overall, the course was in great shape with a nice variety of holes and exceptional greens. Fairly flat overall, but you still need to pay attention to club selection with the subtle elevation changes, especially on windy days. It was especially windy this day, but the course was still very playable. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Nice high desert course.
Overall course was in great shape. Greens are 99% recovered from punching. They're a little spotty in appearance, but rolled true and with good consistent speed.
One of the best driving range and practice areas I've seen on a public course.
I almost deducted a star for the bunkers - they're basically hardpan and not sand traps. You should be able to ground your club and play them as bare dirt. My solution was to avoid them - only went in 2.
Only other potential deduct is overselling as a "mountain" course. It's just another high desert course in southern Nevada, with views of mountains. It is out of the city though.
Will definitely play again.
played here twice
This is one of the best values for your money anywhere Nevada much less in United States from what I played beautiful course always a good deal on GolfNow beautiful setting friendly staff about an hour from Vegas worth the drive
Twice now in 2 weeks you have sent me to courses that had greens that were punched! That is information that should have been on your website! Don't know if I will be using your site again!! Terrible!!!
Good course
Course is in good condition and fun to play, but very slow. 5 hours to play and course Marshall does not help speed things up.
It’s a Great course with beautiful mountain views.
It was a very windy day, but we still had fun. The course is challenging and the views spectacular. Didn't have to worry about scoring well because the wind ripped our score card right out of our cart as we putted the second hole. Had a challenging day, but with a few good shots and I remember we both birdied the last hole. Life is good. I'll be back on a calm day.
This course has great fairways, lots of sand traps, and challenging greens !
Great course and well maintained! Would definitely recommend !
Best value anywhere.
We Love this course. Always in great shape, greens are well maintained, course is well marshaled on busy days and layout is great.
Staff receives you with cart and instructions. The dining and bar are well priced and super good food. We always choose Mountain Falls as our first choice for value and conditions.
This course was one of the best courses I ever played well worth the drive from vegas
