On back 9 Photo submitted by Lsj021 on 11/18/2012
Had to play the front nine twice
If we knew we would be playing the front nine twice we would not have traveled from Oracle to play
Recent storm tore the course up
Play Quarry Pines pretty often. Went to play on 7/16 and the course was in rough shape from the storms that rolled through this weekend. Standing water in a few spots and a lot of washed out areas. No fault of the course, storm was a bad one. Back nine was closed entirely and no one relayed this info until we saw the starter on tee 1. Course should bounce back quickly, it was in good shape previously. I’d give it a couple weeks before I try going back. Greens in great shape for this time of the year. Rest of the course will bounce back.
Bad shape
The course could be in much better shape even for this time of year. No reason for the bunkers to be hard pan.
Dry and burned grass (not greens)
Nothing some water and cooler temperatures wouldn't fix. I enjoy the course and drive a good distance to play there. I simply move my ball when it doesn't land on grass. One green had an elevated hole from people walking around it so right before my ball was about to drop in it turned right and then left around the hold. Just needs moved and not brought exactly back.
Decent Condition
Great course layout, and especially challenging on the back nine. Fairways still recovering from being plugged a while back, so need to play with the understanding that you should be able to roll your ball to a decent lie. Greens are good!
New Superintendent is Awesome!!
The new superintendent is doing great things with the course. Give him some time and this course will be one of best around Tucson, including private courses.
Great course
As always quarry pines is a wonderful course. Extremely friendly staff. The course was in great condition especially for July. Minor aeration around some greens but nothing to bad. Unfortunately pace of play was very slow for a Monday. Multiple groups playing from the tips that had no business playing from the tips. Why play form the tips if your shooting 100+
Challenging Course
Typical of this course, the pace was slow, and no Marshall ever on the course to change that. Fairways had been plugged a while ago, so you really need to be able to roll the ball to a decent lie. Some random piles of tree limbs along a few of the holes, one of which caught a drive that was cutting a corner. Grounds keepers are not very on top of things.
NIce change of pace.
First time I played here. The weather was very hot (104). I played alone - and got around in less then 3 hrs. The course can be tight, you need to keep the ball in play. Otherwise it's not very long and you can score here. The back nine is in and out of the old quarry, which makes for some beautiful holes and very different feel from 'desert' golf. Course condition was decient for summer golf in the desert. One big downside - there is no driving range and you will need to go somewhere else to warm-up or play without.
I'll will be back - very much like the different quarry look.
It's a quarry course
And a quarry course is one where some holes punish you for poor drives (on the back nine). Others drive into a hole. Bring a couple extra balls (but I found more than I lost). Some hate this course for that. I do not. I like it being different and am willing to pay with a couple extra balls. Played 4 hours 11 minutes in Arizona summer heat (over 100F). A bit slow but we just played 4 holes twice so no waiting (could do this due to the single behind being an hour back and slow).
It's an average length full 72 par course. No driving range but I don't need one. I warm up at home. Grounds people worked very hard, but it needed a little more water. That's my only criticism. Chilled water tanks (my 80 oz wasn't enough with the four extra holes) made it far better than city courses alone.
Best Course for the Money
Unlike no other course in Tucson. Has the best back 9 you will play. It was an extremely fun challenge.
NEED A RANGE
unfortunately, your course is losing many many rounds of golf due to the fact that there is no range there. Please get that range back up and you will see not only revenue increased for the range, but more importantly, far more people will be want to book their rounds at Quarry instead of going elsewhere to places that do have a range prior to playing. It’s that important
Get the range! Please
Great pace of play. Course in good shape overall. Need to be accurate or carry a lot of balls... No beverage cart on day we played, Sunday
Golf day
Many patrons did not rake the sand traps when done. Probably because the course doesn't rake them very often either.
Good course for the price this time of year
I think it’s a good course when prices are down because it’s the slow season. But at full price, I’m not inclined to play it because it’s not so far above the city courses that I’m willing to pay the extra price. And if I’m going to pay extra, I’m going to play a course like Starr Pass. But overall, a good experience and I would play it again. I do think some of the fairways are narrow because they decided to put houses there, which kind of tells It’s not really a championship course. It’s more of a housing development course.
Excellent Course
Love the engagement from the cart staff to the bar personnel. Course is amazing. Great landscape, tight fairways and pressed greens. Will definitely play this course again.
