StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

Great course in the mountains
Had a great round in this beautiful course, great condition and lovely views
Pace of play
My husband and I love this course. When you play on weekends, it's fine, but on weekday, it's just terrible pace. They blocked morning time until 9:30 for the MEMBERS!!! That's fine, +BUT,,,If you are to play after 9:30, I highly recommend NOT TO, until 12 pm. It would take about 3 hrs. for front 9 only!!! Because of ALL these LADY MEMBERS!!!!! You guys really need a ranger on the course!!! I am a woman myself but they are just TOOO MUCH!!! We asked the shop if we could play front nine twice instead of back nine. They let us play whole 18 again.( that was nice) and whole 18 holes took us only 3 hrs with a little traffic. We really love this course. We don't want to not coming back cause of the SLOW PACE on weekdays!! Please do something about this or open some tee time early morning before these members time!! Hope the manager or head pro read this!!
Excellent
This course was very challenging, but we had a heck of a good time and the views are gorgeous.
Great but slow
Play this course about once a year to get out of the heat. Course was in excellent shape and staff & service were great. Front nine was very close to two hours but back nine deteriorated by ~ 45 min. Ended up waiting on most shots. Please utilize a ranger to enforce pace of play.
Great challenging course but overpriced at $85
Fun course, I have played 2 other times when passing thru the area. Lots of elevation changes and need accurate tee shots. Need to have more specials on golfnow and a reduced rate after 1pm instead of 2;30pm. A little overpriced for the retired folks. I have played better courses in Las Vegas and Phoenix for less.
One small item
Love this course (see previous reviews) but one opportunity for improvement is bunkers. Definitely need more/better sand and many have/had standing water. Small thing, but created some discussion/frustration with group. Definitely not enough though to keep us from this Arizona gem!
Amazing treat
Fantastic course in immaculate shape. Course requires thought and strategy on almost every hole. Entire group was shocked & disappointed when they realized we were on #17 tee and they only had two more holes to enjoy. Great course, great hospitality by staff and great time had by all, thank you for letting us experience your course and cool temperatures!
We walked off the course early due to a combo of slow play (10 holes took 3 hours!) and just not enjoying the course layout. Conditions were fine and several holes were quite nice. However, there were too many blind shots and even two times we hit tee shots over the group in front of us because they were out of sight (though in the fairway!). We won’t return.
Who Designed This Course?!
The drive through the center of Prescott Valley to the Stone Ridge Golf course is a night and day experience. An old town in great need of a makeover, leads into a beautiful new housing development where this course is located. The difference between the downtown section and the golf course community could not be more stark. I was looking forward to playing this course but after my round I pledged I would not return because the experience was not much fun.
The driving range was long and deep and made for a good warm-up session. The adjacent putting green, with its undulations, gives you a good introduction to what you will experience on the course. While neither was particularly impressive visually, I never judge a course on the practice facilities. I want to see what the playing experience is like. Stone Ridge was beautiful, had very nice views, some visually interesting holes, is incredibly challenging, eats balls like PacMan, and not much fun.
The course is in terrific condition. The fairways are as lush as any place I have played. The greens are in outstanding condition, though not very fast, and offer a really interesting putting experience due to the number of undulations you encounter. The ball rolled true.
The designer was able to retain much of the natural environment, which was great. But the layout is an absolute head scratcher and a nightmare of an experience. If you like riding roller coasters, you will enjoy driving from the greens to tee boxes. There are way too many forced carries over ravines and other vast expanses. Having such forced carries every now and then would make for an interesting diversion. But geez, on every hole?! And you are constantly hitting off of an elevated tee box and up to an elevated green. There is not a flat lie any place. The back nine takes blind dog legs, elevation changes, and elevated tee boxes and greens to another level. Overkill. If I were a mountain goat I would have enjoyed my round much more.
Great course!
This course is fun to play and is so much different than what we find in Phoenix. It’s an great condition and pace of play was excellent. If you want to play golf in a cooler climate than the valley, they just head 1.5 hours north to this gem.
Great experience
First time playing here, very tough course, course in great shape from tee box to greens. Beautiful sceneries too. Bring a lot of balls if you shoot a high handicap. Will come back to play again soon.
My new favorite course
Unforgettable experience. This course is a must play for anyone who loves golf. Dont pay attention to any of the negative reviews, this place is heaven for even the average golfer.
Beautiful Layout
Course was in fantastic shape. Greens ran true but some real tricky. Score real early on the front the back can take you down. 581 yds. 18th. from the white with a double dog leg blind shots.. I'm an 18 to 20 handicapper. 8 over on the front 14 over on back. too many 3 putts. No lost balls.
1st time
Interesting course. layout. Last time I played a course I didn’t like it became one of my favorites. so I will
play it again. Bring a lot of balls even if your straight off the tell! Greens were very tough. If you are slightly off the fairway or green you will be penalized. Back nine slowed way down but over all pace was not bad.
I will say the people working there are very friendly and customer focused. JAG
Hidden gem as a scenic mountain course
Have played StoneRidge a half dozen times and each round provides a new challenge. A 12 handicapper who appreciates using more than a driver as course management is a key component. Weather is always better than playing in Phoenix, yet at times it can be windy.
