StoneRidge Golf Course
About
Elevation changes are the name of the game here with swings from the tees that could make the most even-keeled soul feel Vertigo. The drop from tee to the fairways is as steep as 350 feet. The stretch of 12 through 15 is particularly height challenging. Designer Randy Heckenkemper likes to compare his course his course to a roller coaster. This for a high season $55 greens fee that wouldn't even be enough to get a ticket into some amusement parks.

My favorite Prescott course
I played June 23, 24, 25. Enjoyed the course but found it in need of greenskeeper attention. Some forward tee boxes had not been mowed. Greens were very sparse. Each summer I travel to PV to play StoneRidge and this year the course was not the plush, awesome course which it has been in the past. The pro shop and outside service staff was, as usual, friendly and helpful. As a single player they were happy to advise me about available pairing. I met some really terrific ladies and plan to come back and join them in another round or two. The food service was great and the food was yummy. I hope this course thrives!
Very challenging course
Little bit narrow, plenty of elevation changes, green roll beautifully.
6/12 golf
this is probably the best course to play in the Prescott area! Views are scenic and elevation changes great! Couple of tee boxes were a little rough, but overall great. New construction going on around practice area and #'s 1 and 2.
Beautiful But Tough
Beautiful, scenic course...BUT, not a course for a high handicapper like me. Carry on every hole and really punishes you on poor shots. Would recommend it for low handicappers...otherwise, bring lots of golf balls...you will need them!
Slow, slow, slow
The course seemed good enough, but unfortunately after a 3hr front with no apparent urgency from the marshals, I gave up. To make matters worse, when we finished 9 we had to wait to go to 10 because of a wedding. I would have like to play the entire 18, but I could no longer handle the hurry and wait.
Beautiful high-desert golf
I've played this course many times since they first opened and it never ceases to be an enjoyable challenge. The greatest benefit here is course knowledge, or at least playing with someone who knows the course. There are a great many blind shots and the smart plays are rewarded. The only drawback is a lack of a marshal to regulate the pace of play. Newcomers and less-skilled golfers tend to slow the pace on a course that is already long and challenging.Overall, this is definitely a must play venue.
The Best Course near Sedona since Seven Canyons went private.
I LOVE THIS COURSE. It is a difficult, desert course, with massive elevation changes, manicured fairways and undulating greens. The expansive views are amazing. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen. I MUST play this course every time I am visiting the area. It is a bucket-list type course. It can be much cooler that the valley and windy too ! It does not matter, this course can chew you up, but you just don't mind. It is definitely a risk/reward course. I do not have to make such decisions as I am a short ball hitter. I always finish 18 and no matter what the score, I am already planning to head back again!! Keep up the great work to maintain such a fabulous course, it is really appreciated !!
Great Coarse
Our group had an excellent time on this coarse. You must read the helpful signs at the Tee locations to place your shots, if you miss your spot, you WILL be in trouble. I lost four balls the first time I played
( 12 handy cap ). Excellent food, club house, golf coarse and very friendly, excellent vistas. Please do not attempt to walk here. The tee blocks are far apart and you rarely see other players. Just like owning your private golf coarse.
my round.
Great stuff. One of the better values in Arizona. Course conditions have always been amazing. Tough course, really pay attention to the signs at each hole. Big help! Pace of weird. They scheduled a group or two too many and the 1st nine was painfully slow and never saw a marshall. So bad two groups just gave up. First time this has happened out there so I'm hoping it was just a fluke. Nevertheless, my first choice due to value and friendliness of staff plus amazing conditions will keep me a stoneridge fan! Thx everyone!
Beautiful but tough
This course is beautiful with many elevated tees and wonderful vistas, BUT it is a tough track. Especially if you play it in the wind, and it was 25+ MPH winds when we played.
I'm a 9 handicap and I lost 5 golf balls due to the wind and the slanted fairways. It will take quite a few rounds to know where to hit the ball.
bring balls
Forced carries off the tee on almost every hole tends to eat up balls. Green placement if difficult and pars would be a reward to brag on. A real challenge.
Great deal on a great course
The course is a great place to play. The greens were in rough condition, but it is that time of year. In the summer they are always in much better shape. The only issue was start times. They were letting people go out whenever they wanted. We ran into some slow play. Other than those two things, it was a really great deal. Stone ridge is on the side of a mountain, so the holes offer lots of elevation change. It is a rather unforgiving course. If you miss the fairway, you are pretty much in the desert.
Tuff Course
This is a very fun and challenging course. I would highly recommend it to anyone!!!
Great views
Very picturesque, elevation changes from start to finish.
Not for beginners
First time I played this course, I absolutely hated it and said I would never come back. Lost every ball in my bag. Went back, played it a second time. Same results. Played it again, then again and again. I love love love this course. You just have to learn where to hit the ball. Example: 2nd hole if you hit straight down the middle, chance are very good that your ball will roll to the right, over the cart path and out of bounds. So many holes are like this, that you need a expert that knows this course and can tell you where to aim. Once you have figured this out, the course is not that difficult. It is in no way a course for beginners.
Great views and good greens as usual.
Bring your driver. The greens are true and fast. The condition is always good and there are some great par threes and par fours with some risk and reward. A must play!
Play Smart
My wife and I needed a weekend getaway from CO. We didn't want the chaos of golf in major AZ cities, so after reading reviews, we chose StoneRidge. So glad we did. The employees, the course, and the views were awesome. The course was in great condition considering the time of year. It is as challenging as you choose to make it. Play conservative when unsure what's up ahead, when you can see the shot take it. I played one of my best rounds, but I can see how a person could loose a lot of balls if you're "just going for it". There is A LOT of terrain but it makes for some real beauty. We will play it again when we're in the area!
Aerating but no notice on GolfNow
I based my rating on past experiences. Drove 90 minutes to play but only 9 holes open, back 9 closed and aerating. Front 9 aerated the day before. No info about this on GolfNow. I realize the course should relay this info to you, so I blame them. Went over to Prescott CC and had a great day, so all was not lost. So if you're reading this, do yourself a favor and call beforehand to check on conditions at the course. The past rounds at StoneRidge were excellent.
Need to play once to know where to hit
Windy day on unfamiliar course. Several holes are total mysteries unless you play it couple times. Bunkers not in good shape and several areas where turf had been replaced or verticut that mad for difficult lies (should have been marked under repair). Came up from Phoenix to play, good temps but way too windy on course that requires precision.
