del Lago Golf Club
About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Worst in 10 years
Conditions were the worst I have seen in 10 years. The greens and tee boxes were green, but the fairways were absolutely dead, and looked like they had not seen water in months. The entire day was spent like I was hitting in waste areas, except I was in the middle of the fairway. It’s hard to play well when the course is in such poor condition. I won’t return.
Awesome
The course and staff were absolutely amazing with the exception of Rocky that worked the desk. Just seemed unhappy to be there and not very friendly
Not even worth the 60$
Horrible course conditions. The only grass is on the tee boxes and greens. Greens rolled way too slow.
Hard to find and green grass on any fairway besides the 18th hole.
I would maybe play this course again if it were 20$
One of the best places within 50 miles
I used to live in Southern AZ while I was in the Army. I failed to remember the lack of water in AZ and just what that means. This past week I played several courses in Arizona. All much more expensive than Del Lago. This place has a great driving range and a great place to eat. The golf carts have actual get up and go. But-most important of all Del Lago has the best grass.. the best Tee boxes,, the best fairways, the very best greens. The course itself is chalenging enough for anyone---each hole has 4 tee boxes.. water hazards are in play on many holes--but--with some brains and planning they can be avoided. If you are in the Tucson area--this is the place to play.
Del Lago Golf Course Tucson Az.
This was our first time at this course. As high handicap
golfers. We found the course very challenging. Some Narrow fairways, water and desert hazards took a toll on us.
We had a good time overall. And we will be back. If you like a challenge, come try this course.
Very good staff.
Nice Layout
Challenging layout but fair. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a very windy day so it made the course harder than it should be. The greens were consistent and rolled true.
Great layout with fabulous greens
This is the middle of April so I was expecting the fairways to be greener. There is a lot dirt or very tight lies throughout the fairways. More reclaimed water on these fairways will help. However, as dry as the fairways were, the greens were in perfect shape. Plenty of water here. Greens were very challenging but putted true. I played Del Lago ten years ago and the fairways were never this dry in April. As always, the pro shop and snack bar folks were very friendly and helpful.
Poor condition
Course is in terrible shape and the only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the greens are in great condition. Fairways are the same color as the desert rough so with this being my first time playing the course it was difficult to know where I was aiming my tee shots or how much fairway I truly have for misses. I read another review comparing the fairways to concrete and would completely agree. The tee boxes are completely torn up as well. On top of all this I get there with a short amount of time to spare thinking me and my buddy have enough time to spare to split a small bucket (maybe 10 shots each). I was not trying to do a dull warm up but just put some contact shots out there before teeing off. Once the starter saw what time it was he told me to put the balls back after I had already paid for them and then proceeds to talk to me about snakes breeding, if I have played this course before, if I was sure I want to play from the tee boxes I told him I was playing at, and then began explaining to me basic golf etiquette as if it was my first time on the golf course. The conversation went past my tee time that he was certain about me not being hitting a few shots before so I wouldn’t miss that time. I was disappointed but also found it hilarious to be explained basic golf etiquette with the terrible conditions the course is in. When I went and talked to the club house after my round they told me I cannot get a refund but get the small bucket I paid for the next time. I am upset at the fact I lost a few bucks on a small bucket of balls but the principal is what upsets me the most because I paid for the bucket with the intention of being able to make contact with a few balls before teeing off and paid beforehand but was told no shortly after paying. I know I was told I could use the small bucket the next time out but quite frankly there will not be a next time for me period. It is not worth the drive out to play a course that all 5 city courses are in better condition in year round with staff who won’t work either their players for a good experience.
Second Visit to Del Lago: Still Too Slow
This is my second time playing at Del Lago, and while the layout of the course has potential, the overall experience continues to fall short. The fairways had several brown patches and bare spots, which made for inconsistent lies. The greens were extremely slow—slower than what you'd expect even for a casual round.
But the biggest issue, both times I've played here, is the pace of play. I found myself waiting on almost every shot because the groups ahead were so backed up. It really disrupted the flow of the game and made for a frustrating experience.
Unless they find a way to speed up play and improve course conditions, I’m not in a hurry to come back for a third round.
GREENS A TAD SLOW
Greens were a tad slow but with the hot and dry weather that we have had I wouldn't want them to burn, greens were in good condition.
Great course - conditions are marginal
I love playing this course, it’s close to where I live, and the layout is excellent, staff is also friendly and rates are reasonable. But the conditions aren’t very good right now. The greens are slow and there’s lots of bear lies
Needs more shade areas
Sand bunkers were really bad no sand no shade anywhere had to hit right down middle no landing just rock sand but really challenging because you don't know the ins and outs
Course conditions are rough
I am local to the area and have played many rounds at Del Lago, and the conditions right now are way below where they have been in the past. The greens are a little bumpy on most holes and the green speeds are considerably slower than when they are at their best. The biggest problem though is the many bare spots in the fairways. I saw some good reviews from earlier in the month, so wanted to set the record straight. I’ll be holding off playing here for a while to see if things improve.
