del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Starting to aerate.

Good overall experience. Bev cart was a little slow. They didn’t catch up to me until the 15th green. It was 98 degrees. Maybe they should have water coolers out every third hole for golfers for hydration, or allow personal coolers with water and Gatorade only. They are starting to aerate in prep for fall, so if you don’t like to play with tootsie rolls on the fairways, stay away.

Poor Del Lago

Del Lago has been going down in demise for a while now. It's too bad to see this happen to a once very fine course. Unfortunately for them and other courses, the caliber of golfers now a days really is bad. There's no Etiquette!!!! No one fixes ball marks , huge divots in the fairways.and tee boxes!!! Drive carts anywhere like it's an off road adventure. Del lago can't afford a marshal to maintain the caliber of bad players. They just recently aerated the fairways and kept the hole course open. I remember in the past when they aerate fairways or greens they would close half the course at a time to preserve their hard work. The left the whole thing open and the stupid reckless golfers tore leaving h out of the fairways . They should have put a 90* rule in, but probably no one would do it.

I don't know who is managing the course any more, but they are doing a bad job.

No marshall

First, it was 98 degrees, I saw the bev cart once and she was busy talking to another employee. Then a group of younger (20 something’s) in front of me were loud, driving their cart onto the collars, tee boxes and through sand traps and on the fairways of par 3’s. Not a great experience. This type of allowable behavior tends to chase away people. Do better

For the price, Del Lago is not bad

Ok, the elephant in the room: the fairways are just dead grass. Hittable but not the most enjoyable. Like quite a few courses in Tucson, they just lost them in the heat and draught this year.

The course seems to be using its water traps to keep the greens in decent shape. They are shaggy, but you can't cut and roll greens in this heat. Hopefully the monsoons are strong.

I say it is a good value because 34 bucks during the weekday at 0640 AM beats the heat and lets you get some good swings in.

Del Lago dried out

Have always liked this layout and have played it several times.

The greens and tee boxes were in good shape.

The fairways were probably 60-70 percent dead grass and dirt.

I don't know what has happened and how long they can continue to operate with the course in this shape.

Really to bad to see the decline of a once nice course.

Burnt grass fairways

I really enjoy Del Lago. The layout has a selection of holes with character. However, the fairways have little to no grass. So, if you're looking to get 20+ extra yards of roll to feed your ego then tee it up. But, if decent conditions are a must, you might want to venture elsewhere.

Slow play

They allowed a 5some, teenagers, to play. I like they are out and learning the game, but they slowed down a lot of people.

Great Course. Awesome Staff.

I have played this course many times over many years. Unfortunately, due to water allocation issues beyond the facilities control, the fairways are dormant. The superintendent last almost 75% of his water allocation and was forced to make the decision to keep his greens and tees alive and forgo watering the fairways, at the worst possible time of the year. It is still a wonderful course to play, and hopefully the water issue will be resolved.

No grass!!!

From tee to green, this is the worst course conditions I have ever seen. There is no grass on the entire course outside of the greens. Every single shot was hit off dirt. Not worth playing unless you enjoy hard pack dirt and sand for fairways and rough.

Thirsty

We’ve played this course many times in the past and this was our first time in a couple years. It was in the worst condition I’ve seen a course in Tucson in over a decade. The greens were as amazing as we expect from Del Lago but it ends there. You were blessed if you found any grass in the fairways. The majority was just plain dirt. Even the signature 18th which used to have a picturesque creek running through it was barren. It’s a shame as the layout and location when green make it a top 5 course in So. Az. We were told there is a water issue with the city. There should at least be warning about had bad a shape the course is in. One can hope they find a water solution or they may be in danger of becoming a permanent part of the Sonoran Desert again.

Smoked fairways and hairy greens

The fairways are totally burnt and very little grass. The greens are soft and a bit shaggy to keep the putting slow. No restaurant and just the bar that sells hotdogs. Overall it’s going downhill fast.
