Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Nice round for a nice price
Course was in moderately good condition. Recent aerating of fairways. Damp in some low areas, other areas dry - typical of recent rain pattern. Staff all polite and helpful. Sadly and unexpected - no coolers of water in the course - wooden holders all empty. Almost 90 degrees out and humid. Only recourse - bring your own H2O or buy from beverage cart. Except one, all holes are bending left, many blind shots. Still all in all, a good round for a couple of hackers.
Awesome Course
I have family and coworkers who live along the fairways of some of the holes. Ive played this magnificent course for over 5 years and I am impressed with the layout everytime I play here. The scenery is awesome, the staff are always friendly, even the grounds crew are mindful of when we're hitting and will pause or sometimes turn off the machines to not disturb our shots. I promise you that if you book a round, you won't be disappointed.
Cart path only is no good for a seventy year old.
Your course is beautiful, and well kept. But having me walk all the hills, in the heat and humidity was too much. I ended up stopping after 14, because I was too worn out to continue. I sympathize with your need to keep carts off of fairways that are waterlogged, but it’s extremely difficult for seniors to play. Lesson learned. I won’t be back if it’s cart path only.
Disappointed given the reputation
This course is supposedly award-winning for public courses in Maryland. This round didn’t feel like it. We’ve had a good amount of rain so I can’t give them a lot of flack for fairway and rough conditions. As for the tease and greens, I’m extremely disappointed. The tea boxes hasn’t been cut in at least three or four days, and the greens were impossible to hit a straight put on given the amount of ball marks. Even if you did hit a good pot on the right line, it wouldn’t go in because the cups were so smashed in that it would just roll around the edge. I know what a good cup is because I’ve worked at courses and cut them myself. It seems minute but it makes a huge difference. I’m glad I got a cheap hot deal because I’d be mad if I paid full price.
So so
Hit the 1st tee a little after 10. The fairways were super wet. There was no rain the day prior. I get sprinklers but it was super wet.
There were several greens that had multiple burn marks, and of course no one seems to care about fixing their divots.
Overall the course was in great shape except for the few burns on the greens
The staff was super friendly: the friendliest I’ve ever seen at Lake Presidental.
Customer Service
I booked online while scrolling through tee times. I immediately called to cancel the time I booked in error and the gentleman at the pro shop refused to give me a refund. The course had tee times open all day, but he suggested that in the two minutes it took me to call and cancel, I may have taken a tee time from someone else.
I like the course layout, but it’s overpriced and greens are often beat up. The pace of play is always an issue. Certainly not worth the price with bad customer service.
Interested in paying $115 for a 6 Hour Round? Then Lake Presidential is for You
From start to finish, this was a bad experience. When we met the starter, he informed us that we would be teeing off 20-30 minutes after or scheduled tee time. Look, I get it, you can’t control everything, no big deal. We teed off, had a good pace of play for 3 holes, and then proceeded to wait more than 5 minutes on *every* single shot the rest of the round. After 2 hours, we were 6 holes in when a ranger finally passed us. I asked him what the holdup was. “Not sure, I’ve been on the back nine all morning but came over here because someone called in.” (That was the refreshment cart driver after she spoke to us.). “Why is it so slow and how can the course make it better,” I asked. “I don’t know man I just work here,” the RANGER said. The. Ranger. Didnt. Know. Why. Play. Was. So. Slow. Another note—when I pay $115 to play golf, I expect there to be decent food and drink options. At Lake Presidential, they offered light beer, terrible liquor, and no real mixed drinks to speak of. That’s fine if it’s a $70 round, but not for $115. So after sweating profusely for 6 hours during what was by far the longest round of my life, I felt obliged to share my negative experience with the pro shop. After mentioning that I expect a decent pace of play during a $115 round, the pro/ assistant pro informed me that they charge that much to deter bad golfers (duh). Buddy, either your course was swarming with golfers who were incapable of playing the game, or your course overbooks tee times. Given the 30 minute delayed start, it’s safe to assume the problem is created by the course, not by the patrons. After informing him that I would not recommend this course to my worst enemy, “I understand” was his nonchalant response. I have no desire to play this course again, and, frankly, I do not wish it well. There’s clearly a management problem that results in a bad experience for all patrons. I would play East Potomac 10/10 times over Lake Presidential.
Hello??
Pace of play was very slow. Never saw a Marshall. No water barrels on the course. No beverage cart. On a hot, humid day, it made play miserable.
Great Value
Course was in great shape despite taking on a lot of rain.
Nice course but....
I always thought Lake Presidential as a nice well maintain course. And I still do. However, the play was extremely slow. Waiting minimum 5 minutes on each hole. The landscaping maintenance people did not care at all that you were on the course. I had to move my ball due to them being right in line with my shot. It did not phase them. They were extremely noisy at a few holes.
Lastly 2 hot dogs with chips and small soda was $26 without tip. That is just crazy. Nice course, I doubt if I will return. It was not a pleasant experience.
Loving This Course!
One of my new favorite DMV courses. Love the practice facilities, the course layout is really good. Challenging, but fair. Have to drive the ball well.
This course was nice but the bugs are out of control
The course was awesome and beautiful, my problem was the bugs they almost ate me alive, I normally drink beer and smoke cigars while playing, this is how I enjoy my rounds. I didn’t light one cigar and only drink half a beer because the bugs were eating me alive. Only played 5 holes couldn’t take it no more. Some of the staff talked about how the bugs get really bad. It was so bad I called pro shop from course after starting my round for bug spray, and they didn’t have or sell which is unlikely. The person at pro shop sent marshal to me with a bottle they randomly had and it only had 3 squats left. I give respect to pro shop guy for trying to help. Left after 5 holes couldn’t take it it was extremely bad, one of the worse things I’ve ever experienced
Not bad…
This is my fist time playing Lake Pres in a couple of years. The conditions are markedly improved over their worst level, but still aren’t back to their peak. The greens were fluffy and slow, littered with unfixed ball marks, but mostly uniform. They were very soft and receptive , which made approach shots easier. The fairways and rough still had many bare or wild patches and were absolutely soaked from the rain the night before. And the tee boxes were quite chewed up and many were difficult to find level spots to tee off from. I played in the early morning slot for about $40, which is the most I’d pay for a course in these conditions. I love the layout - lots of challenging par 4’s, exciting shots over water, and elevation changes. But until the conditions can match the price, I’ll play elsewhere.
