Lake Presidential Golf Club
About
Lake Presidential Golf Club is one of Maryland's most popular public courses. It is a challenging championship layout that is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels. It stands out from run-of-the-mill municipal courses with exceptional conditions from the tees to the greens. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that will have golfers using every club in their bag. There are some especially interesting par 3s that are visible but with enough hazards to make them a challenge. Houses border the front nine holes but they are absent on the back nine. The fairways on the last nine holes are densely lined with mature trees. The golf course finishes with an enjoyable par 5 that plays over a lake. It can be reached in two with a little skill and accuracy.

Pace of play was atrocious
There is no reason for a round of golf to take 5 hours and 45 minutes. We waited on every shot starting on the 3 hole. Sometimes 10-15 minutes on a tee box. The real kicker??? Zero effort to improve pace of play even after we called the pro shop. Response was "oh - there was an outing. We forgot to tell you." Layout is nice, unless you land in the bazillion divots. $85 to play and they ding you an extra $5 for range balls. Will not be back anytime soon.
Great Layout
Green were rolling nicely with good speed, but is not at their best. May need to be aerated . Overall it is a very challenging course even from Blue tees at 6600 yards.
Will play it again.
Not #2 in MD
This was my second time in 2020 and the course was like night and day. The greens were very spotty with grass and desert like mud, all but the 9th and 18th greens were so poor that when I called the shop to ask if they offered rainchecks for the poor course condition, he said yes, but pending on which hole you're on. I then ask if the website mentioned the poor conditions, he noted that they had a lot of play and little rain. Really! The front was not good, but each hole on the back, starting with 10 was continuously worse. This was a $10 course at best and I'm sure that Kempersport does not know about the conditions today. No excuse for fairways, greens and tee boxes to look like this. The grass on 17 tee box hadn't been mowed in several days. The website says Lake Presidential was ranked #2 in Maryland, not even 200!
Course needs help
Greens are in really rough shape & pace of play was glacial. Marshall’s needed to step in on rate of play.
Challenging but fun
First time playing this course. Fairways and green were in great condition. Some tee boxes could have used some work. One of the par 3s was mostly compacted dirt.
The layout of the course is far from easy, but it very enjoyable. The consistency and condition of the greens made up made up for the additional strokes due to the difficult layout. To give an idea- I’m a 19 handicap and hit a 46 on the front and a 48 on the back.
Kudos on the grass driving range- it was excellent condition too. I Was a little surprised we were charged for the range. At $80 for a 1PM tee time, I expected the range to be included like most comparable courses in the area (bull run, westfields, raspberry falls, etc).. But when it comes down to it, I would rather pay for a grass range then get free balls and have to hit off mats.
All Staff were very friendly- from the pro shop to the cart girl (who checked on us 4 or 5 times during the round) - that was extremely convenient.
I will definitely be back.
Great challenging course
It's a reward/risk course. I love it.
Staff is always friendly, accommodating, and actually cares. That's important.
I'm a member at Crofton Country Club so I golf quite a bit - but every once in awhile It's nice to go play a local course.
This is one of the top ones in area for sure. Always a pleasure.
Shocker!!
The course is not in it's best shape. The greens really need work and the course is full of divots. Made playing a bit difficult.
Great course, average condition
The course layout is amazing. Pace of play was great. The greens were in poor condition except for #18. Many of the tee boxes had little to no grass on them. Fairways and rough were in good shape. Staff was very friendly. For the price I expected better condition but overall I had a great time and enjoyed the course. I would recommend it if you’re in the area.
This course is not worth $85.00
Some of the tee boxes you are hitting off dirt - Grass has grown up around the bunkers and some of the greens are compressed dirt - what a rip off!
