Windswept Dunes Golf Course
About
Windswept Dunes Golf Club tumbles across a dramatic landscape covered with white sand dunes accented by lush green fairways. The golf course appeals to players of all skill levels thanks to player-friendly features that are balanced by strategically placed hazards. Although each hole shares the characteristic of being lined with dunes, they each maintain a unique character. The rolling fairways are often wide and generous off the tee and the sand dunes, which stretch from tee too green, are only punishing of the most errant of shots. The approach shots though are as demanding as the tee shots are forgiving. There are numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the large, smooth greens. While the occasional water hazard comes into play, the bunkers are the most challenging element of Windswept Dunes Golf Club.

Great value
Well maintained golf course. Challenging but fair. Greens are true and speed of greens consistent from hole to hole. Very natural setting without any noise distractions. Very relaxing atmosphere.. Overall it is wonderful golf experience and a great value.
Long and Wide
This course is the longest course in the Florida but the fairways are wide with generous landing areas? I played it 2 days in a row and even with my sky caddie I found the course very challenging. I've played many courses in the past 20+ years but the greens on this course are the largest I have ever seen. Well worth the drive to play.
longest course ive ever played
A great long course that had 6 tees to choose from for any level golfer. The course was in great shape given all the rain we've had.
SANDY, YES, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS EXPECTED
Course description led me to expect almost desert-like target golf difficulty. Not so, but mostly waste areas and some carries but nothing more than what I can play in the central fl area. For the money paid would expect more pristine conditioning with faster greens. Almost average in conditioning but still maintained with some fairway areas needing attention. Some huge greens - all in nice condition but surprisingly slow. All in all, still a pleasant place to play and compared to other "in season" high rate courses a little more reasonable cost but still high enough to expect more for your money. Would still play again given the opportunity but hopefully less cost.
Great but
We were told there was a tournament and it would be slow for about an hour, but they let a 5some out before us and played over two and a half hours for the front, we passed them at the turn and ran into six more playing together. I love this place but the management needs to curb the big groups.
A very chalenging course with great character.
Every hole is well designed to force you to play many shots and most of the clubs in your bag. The greens are massive but require accurate approach shots due to the multi - layer design. Risk - reward on many tee shots provide challenging decisions. This will become one of my favorite stops for my annual vacation to the Gulf.
wide open course but very long.
unless high handicappers play the forward tees this course will be very difficult. it goes from the white (5700 yards} to the green which is 6600 yds. Big change.
Other than that course is well maintained, wide open, huge greens, have a gps as course is not marked well.
No cart service. range is very primitive but does the job.
Excellent value for the course condition in this area
Worth the drive up from the beach considering how good the course condition was. From the reviews I read earlier in the year I was a little concerned the course would be in rough condition but it was fine. The driving range was tore up, don't know what the story is there, otherwise a really good facility in this part of Florida populated with too many overpriced courses. I also liked the fact it didn't have too much water. Most Florida courses are too dependent on water hazards to make it challenging but instead, this course is challenging by being super-long with huge greens. The good news is there are 5 different tees to match your skill level.
challenging course in great shape.
This is a very nice course in Freeport, Fl. It is in great shape right now. I believe the back tees play 7400 yards so it is as hard as you want to make it. Bunkers are everywhere and the greens are HUGE so bring your short game! If you can tolerate the heat, the best time to go is between 12 and 2. I played 18 by myself in 2 hrs and 15 minutes with a 12:45 tee time. Green fees are $65 if you dont go through golfnow. I paid $40. If you play on a budget like I do then I would recommend this course as long as you go through golfnow.
Windswept Dunes by Chef Boy
I got this round for $30 on a hot deal and finally got a GREAT value. I had previously played Ft. Walton Beach and Shalimar, both in dismal condition, one the fairways, the other the greens. But Windswept had well maintained fairways and the greens were in very good shape although rolling at about an "8", certainly no more than a "9". I think if they took the extra step to "roll" the greens they'd putt at a 10 or better.
Like a Marine Drill Sergeant, Hard but fair.
Great layout. Many of the holes were long but if you missed with you long approach, you were not unfairly punished. We thought the greens could have been faster but with the severe slopes, some of the pin placements could have been impossible if the greens were tuned in. I think the management made good choices with the difficult pin placements while the greens were slow from the winter to summer transition.
Tough Course
This was a tough course for someone who does not shoot in the 70's or 80's. The greens had been recently punched, and there was a LOT of sand on this course. I would have to get a lot better before I return in order to be anything close to competitive.
Non-crowded, very scenic and enjoyable golf course
Windswept Dunes is a very nice golf course. Course offers many options for degree of difficulty based on 4-5 sets of tee boxes. The course was well-maintained and above average in terms of value for the money during the time I was visiting Santa Rosa Beach, FL. The only negative is that the greens had been aerated a few weeks earlier and had not fully recovered. As a result, they were a little bumpy and slow. Another two weeks and they should be in great shape. Non-crowded play was another big plus.
Stay away
This is a course that is dying. As you arrive at the driving range and you see no grass, my first thought was "oh no!". The tees had not been cut in days. Large bare and black areas in the fairways where Mole Crickets had eaten them. The greens are large but very poor condition. For what they charged I would not go back. This is a 20 dollar muni at best. Stay away!
Great tee to green
The staff was great, the tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. Some of the greens were a little rough. Overall I had a great day playing golf there
Very Long Course, Nice Layout
I disappointed in the speed of the greens, very slow. The course was in pretty good shape. The fairways had a lot of Poi Ana growing in them, not that big of deal but I see problems down the road.
Great day
We have played this course many times and we have never been disappointed. Great course for the money. We will be back many times in the future.
Hidden Little Gem... outside of the Destin, FL area.
WOW!!! this place was GREAT... its about a 20-25 minute dirve outside of Destin, FL in area of Freeport, FL... this is truly a "Hidden Gem".... this course is outside of the "city" area hussle and bussle.... but AWESOME views and layout of holes... and beautiful landscape and sand dunes....
Worth the drive..I guess
Drove up from Seagrove for an 8am starting time. Wind gusting 25+ & 50 deg. Dude behind the counter seemed very put out to be there, no good morning, nothing. Payed for a small bucket(should be free with greens fees) & proceeded to range. Even at 8 am approx 5-6 groups had gone off & the starter was clueless. Didn't pair up any twosomes & play was starting to stack up. Told him I was in a hurry & he let me start on 10..500 yard par 4! Made par and flew around the back, bout an hour fifteen. Played the championship tees at 7750, nice challenge, lotta long irons in. Problem is red tee boxes, kinda degrading making someone stretch it out that far & look at a red tee the whole time. Course was in ok shape- tee boxes un level, turf bare in quite a few spots & greens a lil furry. Prob rolling 8-9. Would like to play it next time in better shape & better weather. Recommend only if you check course conditions first.
