Mansfield National Golf Club

It was in the low 50s to start our round and dropped into the 40s with the wind chill due to high winds. My wife and son tapped out after 4 holes and went home. I stuck it out and played all 18 and had a decent round, but it would have been better if the pace of play was better. The group in front of us was playing so slow my playing partner and I could have played 3 individual balls per hole and still been waiting on them.

The course was in better shape than the last time I played it in early November, and a lot of work has clearly been done to remove dead trees and some of the heavy brush that looks bad and makes some of the holes feel unmanageably long for some people. While I can hit the green from the tips with an iron on #5, the previous setup would have meant my playing partner (a single who got paired with us) would have needed to play from the front tees instead of his normal silver / white tees because of the brush and trees preventing him from having any angle at the fairway. Even though it's technically a par 3, for shorter hitters, it's really a par 4 in difficulty when it's overgrown, and as it's set up now, he at least had a put for 3.

Everything was great except we caught a 6-some on hole three that did not invite us through (3-some). They were all young adults, played a mix of tees, and were high handicappers. They had some knowledge of etiquette as they took forever on the greens deciding who was out, never stepping across another line, etc. We did not hit into them but were waiting on every tee and every second shot except the 3's. Not really in a hurry and the groups behind us could see the problem, but they should have been on the clock. We did not see a ranger, fortunately there was a beverage cart running.

Though Mansfield is about 40 miles away from where I live, it was worth the drive. The course was in very good condition. The weather was pleasant, though a little windy.

We very much enjoyed our round. I would definitely play it again. It was very good value for the money.

The course was packed and the pace of play was far too slow for my liking. To be fair, I am a 3:30 is too long kind of golfer, but I stopped after 9 holes and over 2 hours and 15 minutes. Some people might say 4 1/2 hours for 18 holes is fine, but when I can walk 18 in a little over half of that, why does it take some people so long to play a round of golf? At any rate, I was paired with 2 relatively new golfers who were great guys, and while they weren't great at golf, their pace of play was great. Unfortunately, we couldn't go anywhere fast, so I ended up turning the round into more of a practice session on the course than anything, hitting multiple balls at a time to keep from standing around.

This is a well designed and challenging golf course. When arriving at the club one might think the course will be a flat and boring play. The exact opposite is the case.

I was also lucky enough to get paired with 3 guys who had great games and knew the course well.

Was an okay course. Nothing that made me go WOW. Honestly, for what they charge even with a Hot Deal, I’m going to Tangle Ridge. Much better laid out course, with better amenities. We didn’t see a cart girl until Hole 12 on a Sunday afternoon. Carts were nice though with no GPS Which is a big plus. However, most of the fairways were roped off all the way to the green, which is pretty absurd. Didn’t hate the course, but won’t be back, just because Terra Verde and Tangle Ridge are both there, and nicer.

Course plays well. Decent layout. The greens are good but not high quality. The greens are the only thing I think could have more attention put into to make a great course. The cart girls were also super cool and make the pace of play bearable

My twosome was paired with another twosome. Great guys and a fun round. Pace of play was really slow and the price for a senior surprised me a little. Was charged $70 for the round.

Drove over a hour and 15 minutes to play this course I've heard great things about, get here with my wife(non golfer) and they tell me she's not allowed to go with me, I offer to pay a rider fee and they(Jim and Roger) tell me i either pay for a round of golf($90) or too bad cause "Its their rules".

First time this has ever happened to me even with much more high end courses.

Will not be back or recommended this course to anyone if not made right by a manager.
