Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Striking Oil at Wildcat!
Usually, when I play a course for the first time, I don't fo so well. Yesterday at Wildcat was the exception. It was partly due to choosing a reasonable tee-I chose the 6100 yard Blue Tees and played the Highlands Course. This course has a very challenging layout. If you are playing it for the first it probably be good to play with someone who knows the course. Wildcat was in pretty good shape although most greens had burned-out portions. The choice of 5 tee boxes offers a variety of skill levels the chance to do well. I played the course alone and several times had difficulty locating the next hole or the direction of the hole because several tee areas are located near one another. In addition, more signs indicating the direction to the next hole are needed. However it was a good day to play and "strike oil" at Wildcat.
Great Course
I have to say, being a native Houstonian I have heard great things about WildCat. The course lived up to its name. It is wild and very sneaky as a cat.
Lets be brutal here I suck as a golfer, my buddy Mike is a bit better but lets face it he sucks too! The real entertaining part was hole 13 on the lakes course when mysteriously my 60 degree wedge ended up in on the lakes.... Needless to say it is a fantastic course and i will be back. Aside from me sucking the bar/grill is fantastic. I look forward to playing another round of golf with Wild Cat. Great course!
Course better oversight of golf etiquette & player friendly features in blind spots
On May 7, a group of young golfers was noisy and couldn’t wait to ensure we were clear before they hit their balls. It happened on more than 2 holes. They hit one ball at our group and again one above us at the 18th and though it landed near the bar/restaurant, no club employee addressed the issue with them. Basic golf etiquette must be enforced by club management and staff for everyone’s safety. Furthermore, on a course with so many blind spots, it is recommended that a traffic light type system with GO/NO-GO type red or green lights (with sensors or timed switches), should be implemented to prevent guesswork and to mitigate the risk of injury to golfers.
Great track
This is a great loop with lots of elevation change for Houston. Have to be able to hit the landing areas or will add lots of strokes.
Will play the second round a bit different know that I know the course better.
Very minor issues remain from freeze but they are working on it. Only have 2 greens under repair, and they are actively repairing.
Would definitely come back to play again.
Fun had by all
We had a good time at this course and will definitely return. The value for the money spent was very good.
My son in laws needed rental clubs and the quality of their rentals was as good as their own clubs.
While recent rain storms had drenched area courses, the Wildcat Highlands was in very good condition.
We were glad that we chose to play here today.
Rough Greens
I know almost every course in the Houston area had suffered some damage from our deep freeze earlier this year. I completely understand and Wildcat seems to be working hard on getting their greens back to the quality I have seen them in the past. Just made it a little more challenging then usual.
Great course
Great course, hole 17 flag on fairway so I’m assuming they are working on greens on hole 17.
Scorecards are not placed on carts. I would expect this from Wildcat Golf Club.
Wildcat Highland Course
I have played here several time and i have never seen the greens in this condition. I meant to call the course and ask for a refund.
Punched Greens
Not worth the money when you end up playing on punched greens and one green was turned into a temporary green for $72 green fee at 2:30. $90 before 2:00. 18th green was in horrible shape.
Wildcat - Bad
I have played this course many times and it was not in very good condition.
The greens were really BAD.
Blind Shots
It was my 1st time playing the course. Showed up 40 minutes early before my tee time to get warmed up at the range to find out the ball machine ran out off range balls. Having course knowledge on this course is a MUST because the course has a lot of big hills EVERYWHERE! The pace of play was held up due to all the blinds shots on almost every hole. There were a lot of blind shots hit throughout the day. The greens were a little bare, but it looks like they were recovering from the Texas freeze. Hole 17’s green was under repair, so the 17th green was basically a field with a hole it it.
Best front nine of my life!
The course is in pretty good shape, a few of the greens have freeze damage. I played the front nine well and I should have stopped there. The back nine put me in my place. It’s golf! Just go enjoy the round.
Some rough spots
Still mending from the freeze so understandable. I’ve always felt Wildcat could stand to let the fairway turf grow a little longer to allow the Bermuda grass to fill out a bit more.
Fun day
Flew in from STL for the day and the staff was great. Course was very good as well. Highly recommend!!
The freeze hit the greens
Putting is difficult when the greens are damaged from the freeze. Slow speeds of putting due to long grass to grow in the greens, otherwise fair conditions.
