Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Great course for the value
This course is a gem to play under windy conditions. Proper club selection and low shots critical for scoring. Thoroughly enjoy playing this course at all time and recommended
Great Course
For the price, this is one of the best courses in Houston
Highlands course
It’s a fun course to play and challenging. The greens were recently aerated but still rolled fine. The maintenance staff have been doing a lot of work cutting back brush and making the course more player friendly. The fairways and tees are beginning to green up. If you are visiting Houston, this is definitely a course worth playing.
Wonderful track
Funny how some feel they have to give Wildcat substandard reviews. The course was in very good winter shape considering all the rain that has fallen. The fairways were very good, except for the locations where people drove their carts where they weren't suppose to. The greens were running true and smooth, except where people refuse to fix their ball marks. Wildcat gives you a true test for your game on either course. If you love the game, you will love Wildcat. If you don't play well, it can bite you anywhere. So if you love golf, you will love Wildcat.
Houston Gem
Excellent conditions and very challenging. First time okay Highlands course. Played the Lakes course twice during warm weather. Both are great.
Great Course but Slow
I'm a big fan of both Wildcat courses. We played Highlands today and it was smooth sailing for the first four or five holes. Then we hit a wall and it only got worse the more we played. There were three groups on the tee on the par 3 8th and no marshal in sight. It was around the holidays so I understand people are off of work and the course is crowded. But this seemed excessive, especially with tee times ten minutes apart. After 9 the group in front of us went back and played the front again. Probably the right move. It sped things up briefly but we were back to waiting by hole 11. Aside from that, it's a good challenging course that was in very good winter condition.
Windy Day of Golf
I don't play many premium or members only courses, so there may be limited value in my evaluation here. Who needs Austin terrains when you can play here? The course is well maintained and a good challenge. A cold front was pushing down and it was super windy and chilly, which impacted my play a lot. One of the bright spots was my par on 17. I came on close with a 5 metal wood.
Slow pace but great course
This course has some good challenges for all levels but unfortunately our round took 5 hours and 20 minutes. It didn't take that long because the course was busy, it took that long because we had a lady in front of us that was a first time player and took a minimum of 12 strokes per hole and was looking for her ball every other stroke. We were disappointed that no employee politely told her to put a limit on her strokes due to her slowing down the entire course. When you have 3 different tee times all waiting at the same tee box because of a slow group, thats when the golf course staff should step in and do something
Not all it’s cracked up to be?
I was a little underwhelmed by this course. With such good reviews overall, frankly I expected a little more. The course itself was playable for the most part and in good nick. My main concern centered around several holes having blind shots off the tee and unexpected issues for reasonably long and straight drives i.e. run out of fairway. The other problem for me was that frankly the course is pretty ugly! It has a general feel similar to some of the Scottish Links Courses which some folks like. Think open, exposed areas, etc. around the edges of the holes however, there were some fairly gnarly areas. Overall, not for me I’m afraid.
Excellent as always
We played the day before Thanksgiving, when I expected most courses to be booked solid. Pace was great and course was in excellent shape, especially given the time of year. I could play here every day and be happy.
