Course is in really bad shape, pro shop staff sucks.
This course must have been great in the past. Sadly, it now has been run back into the desert from where it sprang. Honestly, in over 45 years of playing golf, have I experienced a course in such poor shape. Tees are worn out. No reward for hitting a fairway, because there is little to no healthy grass to be found. Greens have all been ravaged by fungus and pests.
No rangers to be found, people running carts right up to the greens. Poorly marked flow from hole to hole. Lots of people riding around looking for next hole. No beverage cart running, ran out of water by the 7th hole. At the turn stopped to buy water and asked about their beverage cart and the guy gave me snarky attitude.
Cart did not have charge to last to the 14th hole, at which point I was barely able to creep it back to the clubhouse. Decided it best to quit and go home, thinking all the way what a lousy overall experience I had just had. I'll never go there again.
Horrible pace of play and bad shape
It took 5hours and 20 minutes to play 18 holes, the course and especially the greens were horrible, way to expensive for that place right now!
Excellent course
I'd really like a discount for teachers. Why can't teachers get a discount
Greens need help
It's still winter type or early spring.
Fairways are turning a little green with the water but the greens are getting bare.
They might loose some if not properly watered quickly.
My Saturday golf day
Great golf course to play
I absolutely come back every time I have a chance
Nice layout but needs maintenance
Looks like a once great course with a nice layout. The bunkers are terrible. They are crusty. Unable to splash sand. Some are dirt with a few weeds in them. Others are just so rock hard. I didn't see a proper bunker on the entire course. The greens are fast with their share of bad spots, but need aerification. The general areas are hard. You will get a lot of roll and tight lies everywhere. Hopefully will get much needed maintenance and green up in the coming months, but I won't be back anytime soon to find out.
Practice Saturday day
Weather was unbelievable and pace if course was a great as well.
Nice course
Had a good time. Have seen the course in better conditions but it is winter. Will definitely play it again. Great staff.
The Butterfield is a great course, it is challenge and the fairways and greens are good. of course this time of year in Elpaso it’s a little dried up. Also you can get behind a slow group here. Normally it can be quite pricey to play here however with the golf now you can get a good deal for this course
Getting worse instead of better
I don't know how but the course is actually getting worse than better and I'm assuming they're applying water to it. One of the problems is they are not trying to control the pace of play at all and they got a lot of hacks on the course.
Good price, below average course
There was no green grass anywhere. The whole course was mostly dirt or patches of dead grass, even on the putting greens. However, for the price I paid (18 from an online deal not including tax) it was a good place to play since there was hardly anyone there.
Excellent course
Great course...we played on a Hot Deal, and was definitely worth the money. This has always been one of my favorite courses in the El Paso area. Conditions are great (especially for winter), and staff is friendly! Will be coming more often.
Good bang for your buck
$25 for 18 and a cart (twilight rate). You have to start before 1 in order to make sure you are done by sunset (January).
Golfers and staff are very friendly. On Thursdays you can get $2 sliders in the restaurant. Great value.
Butterfield is doing ok
For the price this was an excellent value to play at butterfield. Sand traps had hardly any sand but for the price and time of year it was all good
