Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Great Day, Great Weather, Great Course, however....
Paired up with a twosome including member that brought their child (3-5 yr old). The starter and marshals were well aware of the situation to which they expressed no opposition.
While the child was well behaved, he was still a distraction as he had his own little clubs and would hit a ball around the greens or attempt putting. I was looking forward to playing this course as I had only previously played in tournament format. This is not the golf experience I was looking forward to with my wife paying $124 for a round. We raised our children exposed them to the game through proper golf channels and always and have no problem playing with well behaved young adults comprising a proper foursome.
Slow...
Nice track. Good layout. Great views of mtns. However, be ready to spend 5+ hrs on this course. Have played 3 times, each round above 5hrs. They do not have a marshall on the course, nor do they seem to care about pace of play. Greens and traps only average at best; they need some work. Should be in much better of condition for a course that has C.U. playing it as its home course. Play it if you get a good deal and have 5hrs.
Colorado National golf club
Nice day except for the rain that lasted almost hour and half. Can not blame the course It drain very well except for the bunker on seven
Not much Fun
I found out an hour before tee-off that one of our 4-some was ill but had to pay for 4 anyway. Several traps has two feet of standing water from previous day's rain. There was a tournament ahead of us so the pace of play was painfully slow, but we kept getting threats from the pro shop that we were behind and needed to skip a hole to catch up. It took over 4 1/2 hours to get around.
The GPS system offered us a lunch menu on the 8th hole to order lunch which we did. We we got to the lunch kiosk, they knew nothing about the order but served us cold burgers on stale buns for $5.75 each.
decent course if you have the time.
Course was in pretty good condition. The greens were really hard. Took over 5 1/2 hours to golf 18 with a cart. Staff does nothing to keep the pace of play moving. But decent value for the money.
Long course, longer round
The course and facilities are good. I would recommend to friend however I would warn them about the pace. If you play on Weekend be prepared for long round. Our round on Saturday was >5 hrs. Our Saturday experience consisted of following a foursome who were playing from wrong tees and spent the entire day in the weeds and couldn't keep pace with group ahead of them. We commented at the turn about pace and was told there is no ranger!
Unfortunately this situation appears to be the norm. We have had a similar experience earlier this year. Our partners on Saturday also indicated similar experiences. Seems this course is getting a reputation for taking a long time to play.
My personal opinion is that the tee times are too close together and giving more time would help cut down on the constant waiting to hit. Having a Marshall or ranger would be good.
Lastly as golfers we can help. Please play appropriate tees for your handicap. This is a challenging course with lots of rough. Play a provisional ball and if you are more than 10 yards into the rough drop a ball and play. Please play ready golf.
Challenging
Great course, always love to play. Great value and course is challenging but fun. Excellent views and great staff.
Ranger likes his authority
Didn't want to say anything but nothing will change if nothing is said. Course is ok shape but not for a 65plus green fee. Riverdale is a much much better kept course. this course had Ground under repair in a lot of places. Could not drive carts on 3 of the par 4 holes, I understand par 3's- that was not advertised on web or in clubhouse. Horrible customer service. I work in customer service. Have for over 20 years. Not cool. Saw the ranger on hole 3, No hello just a just a "you are 5 min behind" ..then after a few holes "pick up the pace" we told them we are only 10 min behind.. That was a mistakes because they followed us from that point. They were just grumpy old men. The rangers have nothing to do except ride our 4some that day. Don't understand but at most we were 12 min behind the pace according to the gps. No one pushing us..so it didn't make sense. The rangers were present around us on about 12 of the holes. Felt rushed and annoyed even though we were not playing extremely slow. I get it if we are being pushed or playing 30 min behind but geez C'mon man. Came to golf and have a good time but golf was ok the rangers here have taken their jobs to seriously and made this outing a an annoying rushed experience. beware. Won't ever go there again.
Slow pace of play and bad carts
This is a beautiful and challenging course with some problems. The staff we dealt with was friendly. The pace of play was horrible with bad backups. Top that off with the cart shutting down anywhere near the course edge due to "...native grasses..," added to a bad experience, especially when you are nowhere near those grasses. Also, don't get stuck trying to drive your clubs to the car. The cart will stop there too.. I can only imagine what it might have been like on a weekend. This course is a bad deal for the money.
Excellent Value, My Go To Course
CU National is an excellent value. It is my go to course and I have played it more than any other course in Colorado. The layout is very diverse and interesting with lots of elevation change and some really great hole designs (Particularly 1, 10, 14 and 17). The course always looks very good, the greens sometimes need a little work. The afternoon deals are amazing (25-35$ including cart). The only draw back is that the pace of play is extremely slow in the afternoon when the deals are good.
All in all CU national, along with Riverdale Dunes is the best value in the north Denver area.
the course will make you hit every club
This course was fun and not expensive at all. There is a good mix of long and short holes for all par 3's 4'sand 5's, I love it when a course has drivable par 4's. I'll definitely be returning.
Fun course. ... tough but fun
Fun to play. .. tough but fun. Facilities overall need some tlc. Lots of kids running around. I think a 10 year old was driving a cart around with 2 other kids riding. As far as i could tell there was no adult supervision.
Disappointed This Time
I've been to this course before and always regarded it as my favorite. This time, however, I was very disappointed with my overall experience.
Right from check-in, the staff was rather unfriendly. The cart we were given did not contain any tees and was still wet from its recent washing, not to mention it was malfunctioning and difficult to steer.
Additionally, the course was rather overbooked and we didn't have enough time to play all holes as the average pace was approximately 35 min behind. We spent 5 hours on this course and played only 12 holes (2 people). There was no course marshall regulating pace of play and it was frustratingly slow.
The course itself was beautiful as always, which was the only redeeming factor in my round of play.
Best in the area
In the Boulder region this has been my favorite course so far. The standard of the fairways and greens are great, the difficulty is challenging but not too hard. The pace of play can be slowed down by balls easily lost in the wild grass, or the cart path only holes. The views of the front range are spectacular.
Could be cheaper
Not a bad course, however, fairly expensive compared to other courses in the area. $6 for a small bucket of range balls is ridiculous. Greens could use some attention, they are pretty beat up.
Fun course, good value
A beautiful course with a nice layout. Fun to play and nice gps in cart.
Rainy but good value!
Pace was slow but they sent me out as a single so I quickly caught the group ahead. Drinks were exceptionally expensive, but you can't beat $28 for 18 holes and a cart on a nice course!
Good, demanding course from the back tees
Good course, very challenging from the back tees, par 3s averaged around 225 yards, but very reasonable landing areas, and greens were in excellent shape and have some good speed to them. I would play it again next time I'm in denver...
Excellant Condition Course
First time out and this was a welcome surprise...great course, very challenging...if you keep the ball in play! If not it can tear you up.
Needs some work
The course seems to be neglected. The tee boxes on the Par 3s were all chewed up, the greens were shaggy and spotted, but the worst was the "sand" in the bunkers, which was more concrete than sand, completely hardpacked. A sand wedge would just skip off the top of the "sand." Even the rakes wouldn't even scratch the surface of the Quickrete that they used in the bunkers.
