Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

great views and hard holes
Very good course. Some of the holes are pretty tough to make it on the green in two when its a par 4. The carts will shut off and will tell you to go in reverse if you are 2 feet away from the rough "native area". Keep cart on cart path or on the fairways . Found that out the hard way.
Challenging
Course plays longer then score card from gold tee. Greens very acceptable with good shot. Layout makes for a very satisfying round even if not scoring well. Will play again from one tee forward.
The Views Are Not Spoiled by the Golf!
Playing this course is always a priority when I am home for the summer. You can choose a tee box that fits your game as there are 6 choices. The greens are kept in good shape, true and quick! When you are choosing your aiming spots on peaks of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, it doesn't get any better!
A course you'd expect to be better
This is purportedly where CU plays their golf. You'd expect for the price they pay and the need to have collegiate level tournaments that course would be in better shape most if the time. Without fail, you can expect to find at least a couple of holes with major efforts in the middle of the fairway or just off the green. The greens are in less than ideal shape most of the time, which is painful because the reads and speed bring good challenge, and it's cruel to get a good line and have your putt knocked off it's line by a bunch of bumps everywhere. They charge for the course as though it is in great shape, and if it were, the price would justify, as it is a fun course that is built well. Paying 6 dollars for a small bucket of balls that are more than half of them coming out destroyed (balls literally with most of the cover ripped up/off) epitomizes this course. A premier price tag for something that could be great, but isn't.
if you like slow play...
TERRIBLE pace of play---5 hours! None of the rangers on the course did anything about the SLOW play. What a shame because it's a good layout. I won't play here again.
Too slow
If not 45 mins north of my home and not a wait on every hole I'd recommend colorado national to all. Perhaps the pace was a fourth of July weekend problem?
Challenging Golf
I played Colorado National with a friend. We had a great golf experience. I would play there again.
No shade on this course
Virtually no trees on the course makes for a hot round on a hot summer day. The course was under repair this day, and I understand things like this must be done for the good of the course, but there were stacks of sod rolls in the middle of fairways and some even blocking the approach to a green on one hole!
Very slow play
Slow play and rude people cart died on me and had to walk back to the club house
Quiet Man of CO
Beautiful facility with great views of the Rockies.
Need Shadow
The course was in the Best shape ive seen in years but they have not planted any trees to hide from the sun while waiting on groups in front, A lot of Marshals out on course but just seem to ride around without telling slower groups to speed up, got 12 golfers backed up on a par 5 Not on the par 3. over all course is in great shape a lot of great placed Bunkers to make you think can I clear it or do I Lay up.
Going down hill
I played this course back when it first opened and the condition of it this time was sad to see. While the teeboxs and fairways were in good shape, the greens were as bumpy as any I've seen for a while and the sand traps were like hitting off of concrete. Add to that the fact that the pro shop and starter weren't on the same page and we got yelled at for not being mind readers! And to top it all off, over 5 1/2 hours, with marshals driving by hauling golf carts and doing nothing to speed up play. Maybe they were taking replacement carts out to players whose cart had died, ours nearly did. And the GPS system was a joke, it kept shutting off the cart when we got within 30 feet of the native areas. I took some friends for a good round and was sadly disappointed. I won't be back!!!!!!!!
Colorado National
As far as the course goes, Colorado National is a good track. It's kept in good shape and offers a challenge to any golfer. However the pace of play is the worst I've ever experienced. When I asked a staff about this, his response was you'll never play a sub 5 hour round on the weekend (our round took over 5 and a half hours). The worst part is the staff seems to simply have accepted this as normal.
Great. Layout but Iffy Greens
This course is a fun and challenging layout. Unfortunately they are losing the battle with poa on the greens. But they worked hard to keep the greens as smooth and playable as possible.
Poor Customer Service
We played this course two months ago and had a terrible experience with a extremely rude staff and slow play. I did not leave feedback then thinking it was a "One Off" situation and we just caught it on a bad day. Today we decided to try again and see if it was better. We arrived an hour before our time and were unable to find a parking space due to some neighborhood party going on that used the golf club parking? We checked in the pro shop and once again the staff was extremely unfriendly and arrogant. After warming up we headed to the first tee and were paired with a couple of gentlemen who were enjoyable to play with. After finishing the first hole we waited for every remaining hole on the course? We NEVER saw a marshall and at times had three groups on a hole and always at least two? The two gentlemen we played with said they have had similar experiences here over the last few years and would not be returning to this course. The staff here needs some serious training in customer service as this could be a great facility.
Dedicate the WHOLE afternoon
It was my first time playing Colorado National. The course overall is a very good with a nice variety of holes (short, long, doglegs, water, etc). It is well maintained and provided a very good challenge. The in cart GPS is a big help too.
The challenge of the course though results in a dreadful pace of play. It took us 5.5 hrs to play. It was not uncommon to finish a hole and to meet the group in front of us on the next tee. Way too much time is spent looking for balls and there is ample opportunity to lose alot of golf balls (I lost seven). No marshal to be seen the whole day.
The tee times don't help either. A group goes out every 9 mins. On a course like this, it should be 12-15 mins to help the pace of play. Even with that, we went off at least 15 mins past our tee time.
The friendliness of the staff (starter and golf shop) is lacking. As I was paying for my round, the man at the desk stopped to take a call for several minutes and completely disregarded that I was in the middle of a transaction.
Had I not used a GolfNow deal and paid full price, I would have been upset, but the low price I received helped make up for the pace of play.
Very slow play
So...I have played out here many times and it is great to have a discounted rate through GolfNow but the round took more than 5 hours riding and it was 85 degrees and all of the water containers were empty save 1...that's ALL of the water containers were empty save one and the marshall wasn't helping fill them either. To me on a hot day in Colorado that is an absolute joke.
Nice course but.................
First off, Golf Now had a very good deal on this course, so I consider it a good value, if you pay full price forget it. Nice course but the greens are not in very good shape. The main problem is pace of play, Friday afternoon teed off at 2:00, had to wait to hit every shot on the front nine. One twosome in front of us gave up after 5 holes. Groups in front of us and behind gave up at the turn, so it opened up on the back but was still painfully slow. It took us about 5 1/2 hours to play, if the groups in front of us had not given up, it would have taken well over 6 hours. One more thing, there is an undeserved air of "we are pretty special here" about the place. I think it could be, with better maintenance, friendlier staff, and better pace of play, but right now, not all that impressed.
Slowest around ever
I haven't played here in quite sometime but we got a great deal so we gave her another shot and yet again it was the longest round I've played!! Took nearly 6 hours to play 18 holes that just unacceptable!!!! Marshall's and staff need to make a huge upgrades on that makes the round just miserable!!! Players should not be hitting from the gold tee boxes if they don't have the skill to and the Marshall needs to monitor that!!! To many players marking every putt and not playing proper cart golf. Changes need to be made and there are way to many great courses in denver to spend 6 hours here!
Great course
The course was in amazing condition. I got paired up with a couple of terrible golfers and we were confronted 3 times to speed it up. The incredibly slow play and bad golfers I had to play with made it a lot less enjoyable, but the course itself was in excellent shape. The guy at the front desk was a little stuffy towards me. All in all, I can not be more complimentary of the course itself...maybe a flaw in having to play with crummy golfers, though.
