Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Great view of the Rockies
This is a great course. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The view of the Rockies was incredible
Best Course in Colorado
They don't call it the Colorado National Golf Club for nothing, this course is beautiful and great for any skill level. One of the longest courses I've ever played, you feel like you're really getting your money's worth when it takes a good 4+ hours to finish all 18, and that's with a cart. The carts are well maintained, the GPS is a welcomed feature, the course is very well groomed, and the facilities are emaculate. Book a tee time during the off hours on Golf Now and you could pay around $20 like I did...don't pay full price at the club house!
Course in great shape, recommend early tee time, and watch out for mosquitos!
Played first tee time available (6am) in August '13 so we didn't have to worry about pace of play, and course was in great shape. Fairways and greens were well maintained (except for a few ballmarks, which just shows greens get a lot of rounds played on them). Rough was wet and thick in the morning and was a pretty big penalty if you miss the fairway. Only complaint was that I read dozens of reviews before playing here and nobody mentioned the mosquitos. I am traditionally a favorite target for the little blood-suckers, and was eaten alive. But had a great round, done in 3 hours, and if I had bug spray, would've been perfect!
WAY TOO LONG IT WAS CRAZY
Great course but they put way to many people out on the course. should spread the tee times out a little longer
Hoping to impress an out of town guest from Phoenix proved embarassing!
Very disappointing afternoon as it was hot, frustrating, and a long day. Arriving 30 minutes prior to our tee time to warm up, there were no carts available for our foursome. No staff member offered help - instead, one of my group stood guard to snag the first two carts that became available. Pace of play was brutal; 51/2 hours. The marshall came around a few times only noting where the hold up was, but clearly did not do anything to get it moving. Record breaking temps and NO WATER in the coolers on the course. I notified the cart girl, the bartender at the turn, and the marshall and yet no water appeared.
Most importantly, the course condition ( after several weeks of improvement) was very poor. A recent hail storm may have caused some of the issues on the greens, but clearly divots are not being fixed. The cups were rough around the edges and the fairways have several rough spots and soaked areas. I suspect this is due to the many tournaments and inexpensive twilight play where inexperienced golfers simply don't care or don't know how to treat a course. I hope the owners at CNGC read these reviews and consider what changes they can implement so that this course which was once so beautiful and enjoyable to play, can be that way again.
Good course if you can get a deal.
While I play this course often, I do not think its worth $75+ per person. Tee boxes and greens are pretty torn up. The Marshals are not keeping people going. He sat there and watched us wait for 15 minutes while the twosome in front searched for balls in the weeds. This happened almost every hole on the back 9. A few days ago when we were there, it was 90+ degrees and there was no water at the rest stops. Saw the cart girl once that day as well.
The course itself is good, but the staffs attention to details is not great. Like I said, it's not worth $75+ to play.
Good course with poor staff and slow pace of play
Colorado National is a good course and fun to play. I hesitate to give them a higher rating because the last time I played there (~5 years ago) the course was in better condition than it is now. The staff also seems to have regressed; when I walked into the clubhouse there were 4 staff members laughing and telling stories behind the counter. Only after I stood there 30 seconds did one of them acknowledge me. I told them I paid through GolfNow and was told I'd be given a receipt. I got the receipt and was told to pick a cart. Apparently, I was to give the receipt to the starter, but none of this was explained or made to be clear. After finally starting the round, the course was in OK shape, not as good as I remembered it being though. The front nine played in 2 hours, the back took more than 3. I'll go back when the price is right on an off-day, but not otherwise.
Fast greens
Great course long with quick greens tough combination
Great design, but poorly managed
Tee time was delayed by over 10 minutes. Carts were not available when I arrived at the course. Several of the greens were in disrepair. Many areas of poor drainage, soggy turf. Never once saw a course marshal, so pace of play was painfully slow. Waited on every shot until we were on the green. Several times, arrived at the next tee and the group ahead of us had not even teed off. Quit after 15 holes (4 hours and 15 minutes at that point with the group ahead of us waiting to tee off on #16). The GPS said we were 2 hours and 38 minutes into our round and 8 minutes behind pace at that point. Hah! Golf should never take this long if the course is managed properly. I don't plan to play there again any time soon.
Excellent course, great pricing
Love to play at this course. It is kept in very good shape and has a nice clubhouse and driving range. Their tee time specials are the best value for golf in the state. Highly recommend.
great course with beautiful views
Great course with views of thr front range. It had rained heavy the day before so it was cart path only. That slowed play but it was fine.
good track
Nice course. Track plays very true, no gimmicks. Greens descent. A bit more care on the fairways and greens and this course would really be a gem.
Challenging course from the tips
Booking a late day tee time made this a very economical round of golf. The course plays pretty long from the back tees, especially with a little wind. A few of the greens did have quite a few unrepaired ball marks and other damage, making them a little bumpy, but overall the course was in pretty good shape.
The course was great!
I really enjoyed the round. The pro shop employee wasn't to friendly and wasn't that helpful. I will play there again!
Excellent routing and design. Course needs attention maintainace wise, front desk person (jason) needs to go to charm school
I was looking forward to playing this course. My expectations were dashed as soon as I walked into the pro shop. For a couple of minutes I was ignored completely by Jason who must have been too busy being on You Tube.First impressions are important, my questions were answered in a dismissive manner. Not a good start. Loved the layout of the course, would have been a lot of fun if conditions were better. Fairways were average, lots of irregularities, greens had lots of ball mark damage, four sprinkler heads in fairways leaking by, causing very soft conditions in those areas. I would go back if conditions improve.
GPS is nice but drastically slows pace of play!
I played most recently on Wed. night hoping to avoid the 6 hour rounds I had a couple years ago on the weekends here. 1st time playing here in 2 years due to insanely slow pace of play.
Love having in cart GPS even though the one on my phone is fairly accurate, but hate that it limits where the cart can be driven on certain holes.....for example, there is no reason to lock the carts on the far left side cart path on Hole #4 when 95% of golfers slice the ball. It results in a bunch of golfers getting backed up because its almost guaranteed someone in a foursome will cut it right into the weeds and be searching forever for a ball.
Don't know what happened on #3's green but putting through a ton of sand spots also is no fun! Most of the muni's I've played in the area have greens in better shape.
Course is a true test though and offers some great views. Definitely would like to play it again if someone can enlighten me on a time to go off and be able to play 18 in 4 hours?
Great, challengine course experience
I thought the layout was outstanding at Colorado National. I must say, the fairways were almost too watered down. I had to take a drop and move my ball on multiple occasions from a puddle of standing water. It was in great shape, but I can't say I like playing in "wet" conditions.
Great condition
I played behind a foursome that had no clue that pace of play is important. No one ahead of them and they were on a 5:30 pace.
Still I enjoyed the round. Great course in great condition. great price.
Play here!!
Challenging Layout / slow play
Lots of altitude changes along with tight pin placements. Second cut of rough is penal. Unfortunately, too many people want to challenge "Colorado national" from back tees, which are well beyond their capabilities. Result is very slow play. Day I played no marshals were present so round took way too long!
Overrated
For the price that you pay to play this course, the overall experience is below average. Each member of the pro-shop staff had disrespectful attitudes and no lenience for a group that had never played the course before. Pace of play was slow (5 hours) although the course itself is long and challenging which was enjoyable. The conditions were just above average and needed fairway maintenance. As a side note - the golf carts had GPS (only feature), no rags at any of the ball stations and nothing provided to clean clubs. Everything was overpriced including pro-shop accessories, food and drinks. Overrated, unattractive golf experience equaling a consistent reputation of their club team - CU.
