Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Overrated
For the price that you pay to play this course, the overall experience is below average. Each member of the pro-shop staff had disrespectful attitudes and no lenience for a group that had never played the course before. Pace of play was slow (5 hours) although the course itself is long and challenging which was enjoyable. The conditions were just above average and needed fairway maintenance. As a side note - the golf carts had GPS (only feature), no rags at any of the ball stations and nothing provided to clean clubs. Everything was overpriced including pro-shop accessories, food and drinks. Overrated, unattractive golf experience equaling a consistent reputation of their club team - CU.
Challenging but very fair course.
Colorado National is a great shot makers course. If you can hit good golf shots and go station to station, you can shoot a good score here. The greens were in good shape as was the course. It also has some holes where big hitters can take advantage of their length. I will play this course again.
Incredible Course Layout!
After stepping up to the first tee it was clear to see why the University of Colorado Women's and Men's Golf Teams call this home! Dramatic terrain and tight long fairways define this course with pot bunkers and other hazards through out. While this course was dramatic, any 12 handicap and under will find this course somewhat simple as long as you play high percentage shots. The greens were a little rough and needed some attention but this did not hurt the roll.
The only negative was the back-up on the course. It took 5 1/2 hours to get through 18 with a cart, granted it was Saturday, but the group in front of us could barely hit the ball of the tees yet found the nerve to hit from the Golds... I wish a marshal would have informed them to hit from the proper tee boxes to quicken the pace.
Overall this was a great course to play, I plan on playing another round in the fall when the course matures.
Pretty course, but Slow pace & ineffective marshalls
Pros:
1. Nice course. Pretty views.
2. Forgiving for amateurs, but it's a long course.
3. Nice practice facility
4. Nice club house.
5.
Cons:
1. SLOW. VERY slow pace. No matter how many times I come here, the pace is ridiculously slow. half the time we got stuck on a hole for 15 minutes because there are 2-3 groups at the next hole.
2. Marshals are ineffective in moving people a long. They don't do squat.
3. Wind is always blowing hard here. somewhere from 15-30mph
4. the majority of the staff at the pro-shop are pompous jerks. Don't expect service. The ladies and one other gentleman are nice however.
5. Greens are not too well maintained.
Course was well maintained!!
Course was great, however felt like you guys over booked tee times too close together with too many in each party, made it difficult to play, felt pressured and rushed on every hole!! Please look at this and perhaps better spacing between tee times!! Thank-you!!
Other than that, it is a great place to play golf!! Really enjoyed all the amenities and staff!!
rained out and no refund
started raining on hole 2 and we left on 6, they wouldn't give us any $$$ back since it was a twilight special through golfnow. Weak...
Nice layout but course management terrible
First, the range was closed for mowing so no warm up available; second we requested a handicap flag for our cart and was told there was no need since they would just program the GPS and that would allow for the handicap situation. In fact, there was zero difference where you could drive the cart even after we called from the third fairway to ensure it was programmed in for handicap. The cart continuously stopped and only worked in reverse (slowly) till we were back on the cart path or behind fairway cart signs. Also, although it was a 97 deg. day, the beverage cart was not available until after noontime.
Awesome course, great value.
Course layout was great. No two holes were the same.
Great time, will play from the gold tees next time though.
Had a great day playing with my brother. He is a much better golfer than me, but I kept it competitive and got my first birdie of the summer!
Awesome Course!
A rather challenging course, definitely hard on the golf balls. The GPS system in the carts is awesome, I have played with GPS but nothing like this.
Pay attention where you drive the carts, they turn off if you cruise into the parking lot or onto some fairways.
Greens were a mess
Apparently the residents that live on this course can do whatever they want. On the 2nd hole there was a BAND playing outside on the patio of a house right near the green. The fact that the marshalls let this happen is ludicrous.
The greens were garbage- pock marks everywhere! NOBODY fixes their ball mark.
On a par 3 on the back 9, they have a GIMMICKY pay-$20-and-if-you-hit-it-on-the-green you get blah blah blah. I mean, I paid and hit the green, so it's kinda worth it. I got a box of balls, 2 "free" clubs (you pay $30 per club for shipping and handling), a 2 night stay in vegas, and some other discounts where you get your $20 back and more..
On the back 9, I shot a 37. So I'm not too mad. ;)
Excellent golfing experience.
I had a great time playing this course. The course was in great shape, and I loved the greens - they were firm and rolled nicely. The course is an awesome layout, challenging but fair. In all, the condition of the course was very good and well-maintained. The views were nice, as was the staff on the course and in the clubhouse. All in all a great experience, I definitely recommend and will be back.
Slow
Tee times stacked way too closely. Beginners playing from too challenging of tees.
Disappointing
I was really excited to play this course. The overall experience was disappointing. First was their policy on taking the carts onto the fairways. 9 of the 18 holes were cart path only. Really? If I wanted to walk, I would have. It's the same grass on the holes where you could drive than the holes where you couldn't. Plus, talk about slowing down play. You could cut a good 30 minutes off the round if you just did cart path only on the Par 3's. Speaking of, 5 hours to play? Not good. Second... course condition. Many of the fairways were in less than satisfactory condition. Very rough and chunky... and hard as a rock. I know it is July and it's been dry, but it was like hitting off hard pan. How about some extra water??? No chance for divots on most holes. Back to the cart rules. Many of the holes, where you could drive on the fairway, you couldn't get within 100-150 yards from the green. Come on already. We're amateurs... this isn't the US Open. Last, loosen up on the gps cart restrictions. My cart shut down 4 times when I was within the rules of where the cart should be. I was 20 yeards in front of your arrows to the path, and my cart shut down. I understand having the restrictions, but enough is enough. You are not The Masters at Augusta. If you want "regular" people to come out and have a good time golfing, loosen up!
could be a good course but was less than impressive
very slow pace of play, over 5 hours and lots of waiting. Golf carts with gps/digital scorecard were ok but really more of a hassle than convenience if you went even slightly off course they would shut down and force you to reverse back which was pretty annoying. the fairways/greens were in poor condition with way too many divots and ball marks. If the course was in better condition and played faster it would be fun as it had long challenging holes but overall we had a poor experience, should be better for the money.
Wide open for the slice/fade hitters.
This is a great course for the average golfer. Wide open to allow for bad misses and the greens were fast which i really liked.
Unconscionable Pace of Play
We were scheduled to tee off at 4:12pm, but they were out of carts. We were forced to wait in line behind walk-up's without a tee time, who the starter allowed to play in front of us, even though we had a tee time. We hit our drives on the first tee at 4:37, and struggled to finish 13, as the sun fully set at about 8:50pm. There are no player's assistants on the course, and it is a major shame that a beautiful course, with excellent GPS equipped carts, has been rendered unplayable by a lack of any semblance of pace of play.
Always Consistent
Colorado National is always consistent. It's a great golf course with some incredible vistas...........but the pace of play always reminds me why I don't play there more often! There always seems to be people playing CO National who appear to be lost! They have golf clubs and carts but don't seem to know what to do or where to go. Super frustrating. Course screams for rangers who do there jobs and keep folks moving.
Greens are in great condition
For a discount rate of $49 it's worth it. The regular rate is I think $75 and not worth it. It's even more expensive on the weekends.
