The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,579 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Muddy bunkers and staff spoil a nice course

When my group arrived we were told "you'll have to play the front nine twice since the back nine is closed because they didn't get finished aerated yesterday". The range was closed because they were still mowing it (at 9 AM!). The sand bunkers were muddy and in a few cases unplayable. The fairways were in good shape and the layout is still terrific (although the back nine is the better half). Lunch was disappointing at what used to be one of the better golf course restaurants in the area. I am concerned one of my favorite courses needs to wake up.

Poor condition. Featureless course.

Most expensive course played this year and easily one of the worst. Play was painfully slow. Everything from buckled concrete cart paths to beat up greens shows the quality or lack there of. Half the practice areas are blocked off for members only. No chipping green for non-members!? Really? Plenty of other courses to play in the area. Don't waste your time here.

A nice open course with great greens

This course has become one of my favorites. It has long fairways with challenging but not punishing features.

The Greens are also interesting with out being impossible to read

Great views, Greens fast but true

Would like to see free range balls, maybe towels on the cart and faster cart personnel. Not happy when two hole are closed to carts in mid August?

A little dissapointed...

I really love the layout but the fairways are a little baked and there are some really worn spots. The greens were bumpy and sandy. I have no idea why they would aerate greens in August in Colorado but I'm no greens keeper or horticulturist. Overall a little disappointed with the condition of the course. Good value for $20 for Twighlight though.

Great course, overbooked though

I'd play this course often because it's so close to my apartment. The only problem is, it's ALWAYS overbooked and pace of play is something that is an afterthought to the people that run the show here. It's a beautiful course with beautiful views and decently maintained. Someone forgot to tell the players to fix their ball marks in the greens though. Its like a minefield playing these greens. No ranger to be found anywhere. When there's three groups waiting per hole, something's not right....

Best Course in Colorado

They don't call it the Colorado National Golf Club for nothing, this course is beautiful and great for any skill level. One of the longest courses I've ever played, you feel like you're really getting your money's worth when it takes a good 4+ hours to finish all 18, and that's with a cart. The carts are well maintained, the GPS is a welcomed feature, the course is very well groomed, and the facilities are emaculate. Book a tee time during the off hours on Golf Now and you could pay around $20 like I did...don't pay full price at the club house!

Course in great shape, recommend early tee time, and watch out for mosquitos!

Played first tee time available (6am) in August '13 so we didn't have to worry about pace of play, and course was in great shape. Fairways and greens were well maintained (except for a few ballmarks, which just shows greens get a lot of rounds played on them). Rough was wet and thick in the morning and was a pretty big penalty if you miss the fairway. Only complaint was that I read dozens of reviews before playing here and nobody mentioned the mosquitos. I am traditionally a favorite target for the little blood-suckers, and was eaten alive. But had a great round, done in 3 hours, and if I had bug spray, would've been perfect!

Hoping to impress an out of town guest from Phoenix proved embarassing!

Very disappointing afternoon as it was hot, frustrating, and a long day. Arriving 30 minutes prior to our tee time to warm up, there were no carts available for our foursome. No staff member offered help - instead, one of my group stood guard to snag the first two carts that became available. Pace of play was brutal; 51/2 hours. The marshall came around a few times only noting where the hold up was, but clearly did not do anything to get it moving. Record breaking temps and NO WATER in the coolers on the course. I notified the cart girl, the bartender at the turn, and the marshall and yet no water appeared.
Most importantly, the course condition ( after several weeks of improvement) was very poor. A recent hail storm may have caused some of the issues on the greens, but clearly divots are not being fixed. The cups were rough around the edges and the fairways have several rough spots and soaked areas. I suspect this is due to the many tournaments and inexpensive twilight play where inexperienced golfers simply don't care or don't know how to treat a course. I hope the owners at CNGC read these reviews and consider what changes they can implement so that this course which was once so beautiful and enjoyable to play, can be that way again.

Good course if you can get a deal.

While I play this course often, I do not think its worth $75+ per person. Tee boxes and greens are pretty torn up. The Marshals are not keeping people going. He sat there and watched us wait for 15 minutes while the twosome in front searched for balls in the weeds. This happened almost every hole on the back 9. A few days ago when we were there, it was 90+ degrees and there was no water at the rest stops. Saw the cart girl once that day as well.

The course itself is good, but the staffs attention to details is not great. Like I said, it's not worth $75+ to play.

Good course with poor staff and slow pace of play

Colorado National is a good course and fun to play. I hesitate to give them a higher rating because the last time I played there (~5 years ago) the course was in better condition than it is now. The staff also seems to have regressed; when I walked into the clubhouse there were 4 staff members laughing and telling stories behind the counter. Only after I stood there 30 seconds did one of them acknowledge me. I told them I paid through GolfNow and was told I'd be given a receipt. I got the receipt and was told to pick a cart. Apparently, I was to give the receipt to the starter, but none of this was explained or made to be clear. After finally starting the round, the course was in OK shape, not as good as I remembered it being though. The front nine played in 2 hours, the back took more than 3. I'll go back when the price is right on an off-day, but not otherwise.

Great design, but poorly managed

Tee time was delayed by over 10 minutes. Carts were not available when I arrived at the course. Several of the greens were in disrepair. Many areas of poor drainage, soggy turf. Never once saw a course marshal, so pace of play was painfully slow. Waited on every shot until we were on the green. Several times, arrived at the next tee and the group ahead of us had not even teed off. Quit after 15 holes (4 hours and 15 minutes at that point with the group ahead of us waiting to tee off on #16). The GPS said we were 2 hours and 38 minutes into our round and 8 minutes behind pace at that point. Hah! Golf should never take this long if the course is managed properly. I don't plan to play there again any time soon.

Love to play at this course. It is kept in very good shape and has a nice clubhouse and driving range. Their tee time specials are the best value for golf in the state. Highly recommend.

Challenging course from the tips

Booking a late day tee time made this a very economical round of golf. The course plays pretty long from the back tees, especially with a little wind. A few of the greens did have quite a few unrepaired ball marks and other damage, making them a little bumpy, but overall the course was in pretty good shape.
