Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
slow play
This course has a bad habit of using the same start times for groups and after groups. It can not be the normal 9minutes when you have foursomes that move at a snail's pace. They should be 5 minutes or longer between starts. Most course have a 30 min or an hour delay the last group. I finally had to leave on the back nine as we looked like people waiting to go on an amusement ride
BEWARE OF MOSQUITOES!!!
We've played Pelham Bay/Split Rock many many times, most of those being on the Pelham Bay side. That course is fine, but this last round we were assigned the Split Rock side and holes 8 and 9 make you want to kill yourself (or just completely skip the holes). The mosquito infestation is ABSOLUTELY out of control. Our whole foursome was completely swarmed by hundreds and hundreds of mosquitoes at every shot, and every stop along those two holes. It was brutal! Can't stop to think or concentrate on any shot without non-stop swatting and slapping your legs, arms, and neck. See the attached picture of the aftermath (and that's just one side of one leg).
Everything else about the course is fine, but I cannot urge you enough to bring bug spray with you as you do not know which course you'll be assigned when you book through here.
Wear pants
I have played Split Rock over a dozen times and today was a rough day. I am not going to bash Split Rock, I actually enjoy playing it and I find it challenging at the level I am at. The bugs were out of control today and they were killing us today. My friend and I wore shorts and have a combined 437 mosquito bites, exaggeration aside, wear pants and bring the bug spray or you are target practice for the bugs. Besides the mosquitos, I had a good time.
No worth it
For the money that course should be $40. The fairway are terrible. The bugs completely ate you alive on split. The greens are like carpet. Not a great experience
overcharge to play-no bargain
we had a 10:48 tee time at split rock GC. When we arrived I was asked how much we paid to play. I said that Golf Now charged $66.00 to play. The course rep said that the course fee to play and includes a cart was only $52.00 per person. We had a group of four players. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed to be paying so much more and unfortunately playing only nine holes due to inclement weather.
Overcharge to play-no bargain
I was very disappointed that your fee to play at split rock was $66.00 per person. Four in my group. When I arrived
at the course, I was asked by the course rep how much we paid. I was informed that I should have called the course because the fee was only $52.00 per person including a cart. A overcharge of $14.00 per. We only played 9 holes because we were rained out but it was our fault because we knew there was a fair chance of inclement weather.
Sloooow
Pace was very slow. There was a ranger out there but not doing anything to speed people up. The group in front of us kept driving the carts on the tee boxes. Ranger said nothing.
Split rock tough track
Split Rock was challenging its long for short hitters a lot of 400 plus par 4’s and only 2 par 5’s we played early so pace was good when we left looked like course was backed up big time very enjoyable greens in good condition first time playing course I’ll be back playing there again
