Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Green keeper
I’m not sure if Split Rock has a green keeper for this course. They obviously have a geese problem and it shows
Poor conditions but early in the season
I played the Split Rock course. Not particularly difficult but requires decent shot accuracy. The fairway were most dirt with some grass patches. Traps were not sandy and filled with branches and leaves. The greens were bumpy. It's early in the season but the course was not ready play. Also, very slow. Left after 12 holes and 4 hours. .
usually good muni
first time back in a while but just opened after snow thaw. course in rough condition between duck poop and tree balls the size of golf balls sometime making balls hard to find or shot up on greens.
alas though this is winter golf. you cannot expect great conditions. the only thing i do not like is if using golf now you have no choice of course, you always get split rock now.
Geese droppings everywhere
Lots of work to do to get course ready, cleaning up geese droppings and improving drainage. At $20 for a cart and no rain for a week, cart path only greatly slowed down pace of play.
Bonus Golf
Be able to play golf in January in New York is always great! Course was muddy but pace of play was great and staff was very friendly despite the cold.
Pace
It would be nice if they had someone going through the course keeping the PACE of play. Play can be EXTREMELY SLOW AT TIMES.
Challenging course
The low temperature and freezing fairway and green made the play somewhat challenging..
Split Rock Is Challenging
I tee'd off at 7AM in 42 degree weather. Just FYI but I like the cold so didn't really matter too much.
First time playing splitrock after playing pelham bay yesterday. It's very challenging. Fairways are narrow and unforgiving. Par 3's are deceptively short. The course was really made well. I love the challenge to be honest!
After the first 2 holes, I decided to only play with my irons because of how narrow it is. I absolutely loved it to be honest. It was fairly wet but that's probably due to the rain 3 days ago and the colder temperatures not letting it dry up.
Anyways... try it out. The price is reasonable as well.
Great Course
There are 2 courses you can choose from. I would do pelham because it is more open and the fairways are less narrow. Definitely try that first. This review is for the Pelham course, not splitrock which is the second course.
Splitrock is more narrow and challenging!
I tee'd off at 7 AM so it was a bit cold but the course was great. Love this course. Greens are kept well and so are the fairways. Even in december to my surprise. Carts could use an upgrade but not the worst. I definitely recommend it for the price.
