Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Pelham Bay Split Rock
Excellent course, excellent pace of play. Course is big and not constricting. Would definitely recommend.
Fabulous track needs some TLC
Today was a beautiful day in the Bronx. Pelham Bay has the potential to be a gorgeous and challenging course for players of all levels. Its wide fairways are fairly forgiving and playable but just long enough to challenge even solid hitters. What the course needs is a little more expenditure on the groundskeeping. I'm sure Covid has made this tough. The fairways in particular are beat up. The greens, surprisingly, are in very good shape. But it would be a shame to let the great course decline into such rough shape that it loses its value.
Not good but not bad for a municipal course
The course isn't terrible but nothing great. It's close to the city and that helps a lot. There's a lot of waiting around the par 3 holes. What should be bunkers are gardens. But the hard ground makes the ball easy to lift out. There are some nice downward sloping holes and the staff was very nice.
best conditions ive seen this golf course in a long time. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were well taken care off.
Bunkers could use a bit of love, they look like wasteland.
Lost our Golf Now booking SLOW POP
Lots of double bookings and lost bookings. They didn’t have my GN reservation even though I booked it 3 days earlier and prepaid. Pace of play was 6 hours (3 hours through 9) and we only got through 12 holes despite starting at 2:30..
We had a 2 pm tee time. Ended up teeing off at 2:30 due to numerous double bookings and missing bookings. Staff was very nice and worked to get everyone out as best as possible.
Course conditions were not very good. Bunkers were overgrown with vegetation and haven’t been maintained. Fringes off of greens were patchy , rough, or weed covered. Greens were fine but slow.
Extremely poor Course condition
Paid $70 to play hear, greens were great and true but that's where the fun ends , grass is growing out the bunkiers, it's more rough than bunker...over grown branches on the cart parth ...if the course was $30, then play for the deal , considering the quality of the greens....but for $70? Spend the extra and play elsewhere ....anywhere else for 70
Ridiculous Noise and COVID Unsafe
Half the holes in course are under attack from ear numbing music from bar next door. feel your teeth rattle from noise and music from next door. Also, didn’t clean the carts. Simply didn’t bother to clean cart... so filled with trash from preceding person.
I would avoid the weekend
Took 3 hours to get through the front 9. I think the back was 2.5. The greens were in good shape but the rough is really random. All kinds of grass and missing spots and random brown areas. This course has a rough NY feel to it. Lots of history though.
Course not kept well at all
This used to be one of my favorite courses in the city, but this least season the conditions were terrible. I’m not sure if it was because of Covid but Pelham conditions have been consistently awful. I thought it may because NYC cut budgets or something, but Van Cortlan across town is still pretty good. I think Pelham is taking advantage of the high demand. I hope they can get their stuff together.
Course good but always a long slow round
We played Split Rock, the course was in good condition, other then the sand traps which have weeds growing up through the sand. But as usual here or on Pelham it was ridiculously slow round. Seems to always be a 5+ hour round here. Also a little pricey especially with the slow pace of play.
