Beautiful long distance views from much of the course. Photo submitted by TatayG on 05/09/2018
Course was in good shape for just having had some serious rainfall
I played Millcreek a few weeks ago and I have to note that they did some work on the traps getting the stones raked out so those looked in very good shape (I was happy to not visit any of them in this round as opposed to several that I did last time). A couple of traps were flooded from the rain but that was to be expected given the downpour. The greens were spiked up from a tournament that was out ahead of us - not the course's problem but the golfers looked like they spun their feet on the greens which was not helped by the soft conditions from the rain - these folks didn't have much respect for others behind them.
Hidden Gem of Western New York
A really tremendous course in the greater Rochester area. Pristine grounds, extremely well kept. Big grass practice areas, driving range, chipping, and putting greens. Links style, but with something of a twist. Undulating fairways, some giant bunkers on holes will really force you to test your wares. The greens can be very difficult, so read well! I can't suggest this place enough. Really great spot.
Challenging course with significant elevation changes
Playing from the blue tees, the course was quite a challenge with half the par 4s playing more than 400 yds. Two of the par 3s and the shortest two par 4s played significantly uphill requiring two or three extra clubs, depending on pin position and wind. Landing areas were generous but the greens were generally protected by sand, and some pins can be tucked into some difficult spots. Rough around the greens was thick and the greens were generally receptive because of recent rains. Overall, a nice course that’s worth a play in the Rochester area.
Nice layout and variety of shot selections to hit
I reviewed the course last week and feel the same way. I had not been in the sand traps in previous rounds and those were the only "negatives" that I would offer. The traps have stones, leftover furrows from the rake machine and some deep holes without sand. They could use some new sand and TLC. The rest of the course was good. Wish we had some rain in the area to help the off fairway grass which is very dry (like my straw yard at home).
Great Golf Day
The course was in great shape. Played 18 holes and n 3.5 hours. The staff was great; except for the female bartender whom also operated the snack bar. She could have been a lot more friendly.
Stayed for dinner. The fish fry was very good.
Thanks for a great Day!
Little things make a huge difference
This was my third time playing Mill Creek over the past two seasons. It’s the little things that really make the course a lot of fun to play. The new golf carts, with attached coolers, stocked with complimentary ice and bottles of water on a 80+ degree day are a welcomed addition to my golfing experience. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and informed us when a tournament was starting on the front nine so we knew what our pace of play should be. The tavern is nicely stocked with a wide range of liqueurs with top shelf selections, (could benefit from slightly larger portion sizes on the drinks, lol). I only have an average rating on course conditions, but that is a rating for mid July with a long rain drought. The tee boxes and greens are maintained very well. Nice and spongy. Fairways are a little mixed, but again, majority of the courses around Mill Creek such as the county courses, Cragie Brea, Braemar fairways are no where close these conditions. At least I have a decent chance ending up in nice green patches off my drives. Course layout is one of my favorites. One of the more true links courses around the area, with not a lot of trees, but some deep sand bunks and a lot of tall grass outside of the roughs. Finally! Very elevated in which I always enjoy. Beautiful course all around. Grab the hot deal if you see it comes up. Fall and spring rates are very reasonable too.
Nice layout with scenic views
I have played Millcreek previously and enjoyed it again yesterday. The tees, fairways and greens are in very good shape. I had a real good day putting. You definitely want to keep it in the short stuff as the heather will eat up golf balls very quickly. The rough is dry due to a lack of rain but that let’s wayward shots roll through to the Heather.
Love this course
I love playing mill creek. Pace was slow being a Friday and being a 3some. I don’t mind it one bit due to how great this course really is. Some tricky holes but once you’ve played her a few times you’ll appreciate the challenge
Great Course
It sprinkled for a couple of holes but it did not stop our very enjoyable experience of playing Mill Creek. We had 11 players, 7 played from Silver tees & 4 played white & was a fair test. The only complaint that I received was around some of the greens those that had leg or hip problems had difficulty in getting up & down. The conditions of course were excellent and staff very friendly & courteous, we will be back.
Great Course
The course is in great shape considering all the rain and hot weather we've had. The course is challenging with all the elevation changes. The fairways are well maintained and the greens are quick with subtle breaks that can be hard to see. It was a very enjoyable round.
Hidden Gem
Always a challenge and well maintained. One of the best values in the area. I prefer Mill Creek over Ravenwood, a similar links style course.
The highlight of the day for me was a 75 foot, 2 putt par.
Weather was great, so was the course!
Perfect conditions for our first time out for the season. Course was in great shape; we were expecting it to be a little soft. Despite the fabulous weather conditions, crowd was small; we weren't pushed at all, even though we don't shoot very well. Had a lot of fun...we'll definitely be back!
Great course
Challenging and enjoyable. Traps could use some sand otherwise well maintained.
