Designed by Robin Nelson, The Dunes at Maui Lani is immaculately maintained and brilliantly laid out. It is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland that more than one golf writer has described as a "British Open course on Maui." Stunning dunes dot the terrain at every corner, challenging the golfer at every hole.

In addition to 18 holes of championship golf, The Dunes offers the only lighted practice range in central Maui, with grass tees, fairway and green-side bunkers and a pitching and putting green, plus an air-conditioned pavilion. Also, when not on the golf course, golfers can enjoy a four-star meal at Cafe O'Lei at The Dunes.

An interesting course with lots of terrain

Course was in pretty good shape except bunkers were hard (lots of rain earlier in the week). It was fun terrain to play on with lots of hills and valleys.

Maui Dunes

The golf course is a great layout with 5 different tee box options so it caters to all skill levels. Pace of play was reasonable (just over 4 hours), considering how busy it was. Course was in great shape, except for a number of bunkers that were washed out by recent rains.

Sand traps

They are too deep for the average golfer. There is no soft sand so it is difficult to dig the ball out. It is hard pan sand. Work on them needs to be done.
