The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course

We played this course several years ago and it was in BAD shape. Tried again November 2021 and were thrilled at the condition of the course, the greens & fairways both. Did not use the driving range. Restaurant is great as well. All in all super value.

Good Course, very challenging. I had a tee time for 9:13 AM. I went to the first tee at 9:05 AM to wait for my group. No other golfers showed up. At 9:08AM the staff showed up and asked me why I hadnt teed off yet. I told them that I was waiting for 9:13 AM and they told me I was supposed to have teed off at 9:05 AM. They said I was holding up the next group and need to tee off right away. Not a very enjoyable way to start off a round. I showed my Golfnow booking and the staff said they didnt care. Golf is not fun when you are rushed.

This course is challenging, but will not beat you up! Staff is friendly and responsive to your needs. We play this course each time we visit Maui.

Very challenging. Lots of blind tee shots. Stay on the fairway the rough is in forgiving. Grab an Extra club if you go in the thick stuff . Greens are firm and true.

This is the most friendly course on Maui. From check in to setting up the golf carts to the final hole, you won’t find a more caring and helpful staff. After I packed and left the course I got a call within minutes asking if I left my GPS behind. I turned around and retrieved it with a friendly smile again. On top of all that, this is a fun course to play.

Excellent value; friendly course with some very challenging holes.

The Dunes is not a flat and easy course. The layout is not long by measurement. The wind is in play all around this course. The conditions were great. For as much play as the course accommodates, it keeps up nicely. The greens are in great shape all around. They roll true as well. Pace of play was slow just because of the volume of players but still very enjoyable. The Dunes team were very nice, friendly & attentive. Prices were also very affordable considering it’s a nice course on Maui.

Reception by the starter crew really deserves an F. When I arrived I was able to park right by the load out area. I walked by the starter crew who were sitting around and only helping what appeared to be certain people they knew. No one asked or acknowledged me. This was on a Thursday so it was not that busy.

So I went in to pay and when I came out, one of the guys sitting down ask me when my tee time was and when I told him he said, oh you're too early you can have that cart over there. The cart was an old gas cart, no cooler and the brake mechanism was funky when you set it. So I drove it to my car and loaded my golf bag myself. The other carts had a cooler and were electric I think.

As time passed I saw the starter guys run, drive and hurry to get other golfers bag and put them on a cart for them. It appeared they catered heavly to the locals or people who appeared to be well off. I didn't come in tshirt and shorts. I was wearing Nike Golf attire and I'm a 14 hdcp so I know how to dress for playing golf.

I was able to get a cooler after I asked a person in the proshop if they had any coolers for the crappy white carts too.

The restaurant does not have a quick grab in go golfer process. It is a sit down restaurant only and they are heavy on reservations. The pro shop had old sandwiches and No Beer. So you are completely dependant on the cart girl who we only saw once and their 3 water stations were completely empty of water. This was between 12.30-4.30pm.

The course greens and fairways saved this from being a 1 star.

The course has an ok size pro shop, maybe 20x15. No men's golf shoes. The range is fairly large but the grass you hit off is pretty rough. It had a nice large putting and chipping green. Of what I could find they did not have a separate putting green.

I will not be going back because in the climate here you need water. And since they don't allow you to bring coolers on the course I'll spend my money where they take care of Everbody and not just certain people.
