The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course
About
For golfers looking for a great Maui experience, your destination is The Dunes at Maui Lani.
Golf's most respected journalists agree: The Dunes is a must-play. Golf magazine named it among the top 35 best new golf courses in America, while Golf Digest called it one of the five "Best Kept Secret Golf Courses in America."
Designed by Robin Nelson, The Dunes at Maui Lani is immaculately maintained and brilliantly laid out. It is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland that more than one golf writer has described as a "British Open course on Maui." Stunning dunes dot the terrain at every corner, challenging the golfer at every hole.
In addition to 18 holes of championship golf, The Dunes offers the only lighted practice range in central Maui, with grass tees, fairway and green-side bunkers and a pitching and putting green, plus an air-conditioned pavilion. Also, when not on the golf course, golfers can enjoy a four-star meal at Cafe O'Lei at The Dunes.

Golfer Reviews
Mountain Goats and Masochists Will Love it Here
This golf course is a mountain goat's dream layout.
There are few level lies here. The layout meanders among a series of dunes and swales between valleys. It rightly should be named The Swales at Maui Lani.
The fairways are thick and there are no rolls. The forward tees are in terrible condition with bare dirt instead of grass.
The greens are heavily grassed with the dreaded "Turtleback" design that is high in the center and lower all around. Most shots landing in the middle of these greens will wind up running off. They putt true but require a firmer stroke.
Many of the greens here appear to be new and they are in good condition, several including #9 are in bad shape.
There are several water hazards on this layout but the real terror is generated by the deep bunkering generously spread throughout this design.
Hole #16 has so many traps it appears as if the hole is one big trap with no fairway.
The Par three holes are relatively short but with small elevated greens and deep bunkers protecting them.
This is a tough layout playing on a calm morning. Teeing off on a windy afternoon could increase scores and lose balls simultaneously.
Great value for Maui
Great course for the money. Challenging with some great views of the mountains in the background. Fairways were nice and lush, also very impressed with the condition of the greens. All but one of the greens were in excellent shape. Great layout with a few tight fairways. Overall great course for the money!
Great value and spectacular views
This was a bit of a drive from the resort area but worth it. A very friendly staff and challenging course with elevation changes.
Nice greens. Design a bit hokey.
Greens were very good considering many in the area have struggled this past few months. Coursenis quite hairy and a bit hokey design. Nice little restaurant also. Will play again.
Nice course
Nice course and pace of play. Most fairways are generous, excellent course for Women to enjoy for the red tees are placed forward enough to not be overwhelmingly long, especially the par 5’s. Fairways could be a little more lush and several of the greens had sand on them but didn’t distract from having a great time......no ocean views but a beautiful course nonetheless.
good course fairways need help
The course is fun. The front 9 has some tight driving holes.
The back has some fun driving holes especially #10 where a good tee shot rolls down hill forever!!
Bad things
Fairways were very thin, and brown. I thought perhaps the grass in the area had gone dormant, but I played another course and that was not the case.
Secondly they had just aerated and the greens were like sandpaper with the sand.
The views are awesome, you see the backdrops of the Hawaiian mountains.
Would like to play again mid summer when the fairways are lush.
The roughs are tough as the ball does sink down.
Dunetastic
Fabulous golf course beautifully laid out
Fairways great and greens manicured to perfection and ran straight and true
A joy to play on
Locker room and shower though left a lot to be desired - the only thing to let the Dunes down
If you love golf you will love to play here
Great time at the dunes
I teed off early, about 6:40am and saw nobody the entire time. I played two balls off the tee on the back and still finished within 2 and a half hours. Great track. Greens were incredible, except for 2 holes which the greens had been punched.
For $100, it’s a great course and the drive is simple, especially from kehei
Hidden gem on Maui
Played yrs ago when first opened so had low expectation, went back on advice of a local. The course is in excellent condition, has lot of fun challenging holes . Greens were really good but
large and not easy to read, entire course was in great shape. Played the course twice during our
vacation. One problem they do not have a ranger,
so we got stuck behind a slow 4some with no one
in front of them and they would not let us thru, so finally skipped a hole. The staff is friendly and very helpful and by all accounts the restaurant has excellent food at reasonable prices, many non-golfers came for lunch. Got a great rate thru
Tee off, altho the course does have specials and
considering the quality of the course and its condition very reasonable.
Worth the money
This is the second time I’ve played here and I was pleasantly surprised by this round. The cours was in great condition and the staff was very friendly. Lots of interesting holes with a ton of elevation change. Hit it straight(ish) and you’ll enjoy the round.
Worthwhile!
Played 5 rounds during my stay on Maui. Every day a different course. This was a very good golf course. The condition of the fairways and greens were very nice! There was a change in elevation from tee to green. Narrow fairways, most were tree lined. The putting was a real challenge! This is a course you don’t want to just drive by, like I did! I played the last day of my stay and was very sorry that I didn’t have the time to replay that day or again the next day.
Stop and play it.
Finally! 18 newly grassed greens
The wait is over. After several years of neglect, all eighteen greens have been re-grassed. The greens are beautiful and fast rolling, The clubhouse still needs TLC but I can overlook that whenI’ve played an awesome round of golf.
Value course
Not in the shape as the more expensive course but also not the price either. Wind plays havoc with shots here.
gol at the Dunes
grass on greens is quite different than normal. I have played many courses over the past 62 years and have never played on greens with this type of grass. Devil grass. They putted better than expected. Course layout is very challenging but making the turn removed from the club house is a little different.
Nice Track
No coffee or clubhouse did not open at a proper time for early in the morning. Great design and lots of fun and tough challenging holes. Great change of pace track from the resorts.
nice course
I played Kapalua Plantation the day before n found Dunes to be as challenging. Lots of twists and turns with elevation changes to ad to it's difficulty. Play the proper tee boxes and you will be rewarded. Shot in the 70s on both courses first time seeing them . Keeping it in the middle of the fairway is a big help scoring. Approach shots were also a challenge with tricky greens. Lots of nice views and vegetation ad to it's charm. It was however a bit pricey for the caliber of the course but your choices are limited when staying under a hundred dollars on the Island. So chalk it up to a pleasant round of vacation golf.
