The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course
About
For golfers looking for a great Maui experience, your destination is The Dunes at Maui Lani.
Golf's most respected journalists agree: The Dunes is a must-play. Golf magazine named it among the top 35 best new golf courses in America, while Golf Digest called it one of the five "Best Kept Secret Golf Courses in America."
Designed by Robin Nelson, The Dunes at Maui Lani is immaculately maintained and brilliantly laid out. It is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland that more than one golf writer has described as a "British Open course on Maui." Stunning dunes dot the terrain at every corner, challenging the golfer at every hole.
In addition to 18 holes of championship golf, The Dunes offers the only lighted practice range in central Maui, with grass tees, fairway and green-side bunkers and a pitching and putting green, plus an air-conditioned pavilion. Also, when not on the golf course, golfers can enjoy a four-star meal at Cafe O'Lei at The Dunes.

10th Tee Photo submitted by bildes83 on 10/29/2012
Course was ok but would never play it again.
First off when we arrived, the service was subpar for the price of the golf course. The lady in the pro shop was extremely rude. The course was in ok shape but I would rather pay a lot more money to play a course that is more worth my while. Many dry spots throughout the course which was slightly disappointing. The only part about my round I enjoyed was that I was paired up awith a local and he was awesome. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't go back.
Couse Has Some Issues - But It Is a Good Value
The greens had been aerated about 2-3 weeks prior - but were coming in nicely. However, there were 3-4 greens that were in terrible condition. This course does have some condition issues (greens and bunkers), but is a very interesting layout. For the price this is a good value - even though this course does have some condition issues. If all of the greens were in great shape, and all of the bunkers were repaired, this course would be worth $100-$150 or more. A far better value for your money than the Kaanapali Kai course.
Nice course, excellent value
It was my first time playing the course and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a challenging course but nice wide open fairways on many holes and nice views of the Maui mountains.
Links Style
I'm not a fan of links style courses but, that said, it was a good value for the money. Back 9 is much harder than the front.
Trouble at check in
First time trouble with reservation. I had our confirmation # , but they did not. DEunes let us play, but they did not have a resolution to the problem with Golf now when we had finished.
John Whittemore
We were disappointed
Compared to the other non expensive courses in Maui it was disappointing
One of a kind
Greens slow but great layout. Need your bump and run here. Close to Kihei.
Loved it
Played this course many times. Best I've ever seen it. A must play
Good value
Course was in fair shape... comparing it to Kanapali and Kapalua. Started out not too exciting but had some real fun holes before it was over. Bring your own water etc. as the service for that was terrible as well as the pro shop not too friendly but I am a tourist I guess. The guys outside were great.
the dunes
very good value for money.however we were unable to visit the 19th hole due to slow service.
Overpriced, won't be back EVER
To start, I know about the storm. Lots of down trees etc.... The problem is the traps and the price. I should get a discount for these conduitions but the traps are washed out and hard as rocks. They haven't even made an attempt to make them playable. It's a joke. Cut the price in half and play the bunkers like ground under repair and maybe it's worth it but they run it like it's in shape. Stay away.
great layout
No two holes the same really fun shot making quiet and some nice views building many homes but they are not in play
Top notch
Great challenging course, especially the back nine, bring your "A" game!!! Great views, tricky fairways, greens that fool you, what more can you ask for!!
The only quibble were the greens on the front 9, a bit beat up.
One of the best tracks on Maui, not to be missed. Friendly staff, people actually enjoying their job, unlike the overpriced snobby resort courses. Better golf at half the price!!
not so good
Several trees down on the course from a storm about 2 months ago. Many of the greens are in very poor shape. Much like the rest of Maui very overpriced and to top it off they charge you double what the locals pay. Won,t be back. .Oh yeah watch out for the garbage ravine on about number 16 .Didn.t eat here but the restaurant looked good.Be prepared though the beverage cart quits about one o'clock.
The course
Disappointed with the greens. Not very good shape. Did get better on the ending holes, but not in very good shape at the beginning of the round.
Surprise!!
What we thought would be a flat somewhat uninteresting course turned out to be a multi-level,
interesting course unlike any other in Maui.
It deserves a try...we will always play it at least once whenever we visit. (The bunkers are dirt--do not play them as sand--chip out). Some very interesting views.
The staff is very delightful and helpful...amount the most accommodating. Restaurant must be good, very crowded.
The course needs TLC
We played here a year ago and the course was in much better shape. I understand a severe storm came thru and knocked a bunch of trees down. Some are still lying in the rough next to the fairway (let's get them moved). Also the greens need major work. I understand the greens got stressed out probably from too much fertilizer. I have been told the greens are coming back. Not worth full price so use an internet discount site.
surprising
First time on this course in Maui. Was very pleasantly surprised, was more interesting and challenging than I had expected. Lots of elevation changes. A rangefinder would have helped with distance control. Pace of play (<4 h) was great for a public course. One of the better values on Maui.
Stormy
I golfed quite a bit at The Dunes in years past and one of the reasons I brought my clients to golf there was the wonderful greens and fairway. That said, while the fairways were decent the greens were less than to be desired. The real unfortunate part about this course was the damage a storm just did on the course ripping up over two dozen big trees (not their fault). All but two greens were in rough shape.
Great value
The design of the course is great with the exception of the tenth hole. There is a set of tees to suit all golfers while low handicappers may find the course to be short.
Tees fairways and rough are well maintained while I'd consider six greens to be excellent six to be good and the final six to be below average for conditioning.
The course seems to play shorter than the yardage would suggest with a number of elevated tees. I would play a set of tees further back from what I selected in the future.
Shot selection is challenging on a number of holes with blind shots combined with poor hole signage and no map on the scorecard. If you can download a GPS map or pair up with someone familiar with the course it is a definite plus.
You won't find a better priced course on Maui.
Aside from some rough patches on some greens and one terribly designed hole this is a fun, fair and challenging course for all levels of golfers.
I feel this course is a great value for what you pay and would recommend it as a course to visit.
