The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course

What we thought would be a flat somewhat uninteresting course turned out to be a multi-level,
interesting course unlike any other in Maui.
It deserves a try...we will always play it at least once whenever we visit. (The bunkers are dirt--do not play them as sand--chip out). Some very interesting views.

The staff is very delightful and helpful...amount the most accommodating. Restaurant must be good, very crowded.

We played here a year ago and the course was in much better shape. I understand a severe storm came thru and knocked a bunch of trees down. Some are still lying in the rough next to the fairway (let's get them moved). Also the greens need major work. I understand the greens got stressed out probably from too much fertilizer. I have been told the greens are coming back. Not worth full price so use an internet discount site.

First time on this course in Maui. Was very pleasantly surprised, was more interesting and challenging than I had expected. Lots of elevation changes. A rangefinder would have helped with distance control. Pace of play (<4 h) was great for a public course. One of the better values on Maui.

I golfed quite a bit at The Dunes in years past and one of the reasons I brought my clients to golf there was the wonderful greens and fairway. That said, while the fairways were decent the greens were less than to be desired. The real unfortunate part about this course was the damage a storm just did on the course ripping up over two dozen big trees (not their fault). All but two greens were in rough shape.

The design of the course is great with the exception of the tenth hole. There is a set of tees to suit all golfers while low handicappers may find the course to be short.
Tees fairways and rough are well maintained while I'd consider six greens to be excellent six to be good and the final six to be below average for conditioning.
The course seems to play shorter than the yardage would suggest with a number of elevated tees. I would play a set of tees further back from what I selected in the future.
Shot selection is challenging on a number of holes with blind shots combined with poor hole signage and no map on the scorecard. If you can download a GPS map or pair up with someone familiar with the course it is a definite plus.
You won't find a better priced course on Maui.
Aside from some rough patches on some greens and one terribly designed hole this is a fun, fair and challenging course for all levels of golfers.
I feel this course is a great value for what you pay and would recommend it as a course to visit.

The course is in an accessible location and has an excellent range and practice area, seperate from course and pro shop. The course in general in good condition, but the greens were somewhat 'unkept'. Overall, worth the cost of play.

Beautiful course but some of the greens had bare spots and the speeds of the greens were a bit inconsistent. But I loved the challenge and enjoyed the round. Very good value for the money.

The course, especially the greens, were is poor condition. Dirt areas and weeds on the greens made for and an adventure in putting.
The course itself is tremendously varied. Lots of elevation change, virtually impossible to walk. Challenging to pull the right club factoring in elevation and wind. It was helpful
to pair with someone that knew the course, because there are several blind tee shots. When course conditions change, this will be better value.

We have played the course several times and we know
it is usually somewhat windy. We were disappointed
in the general condition, weeds on the greens and
lots of non repaired divots in both the fairways and
rough. A very hilly course with several "tricked up"
holes, especially on the back nine. Nevertheless, an
enjoyable experience as part of our annual trek to Maui.

Group in front of us was very slow. No course marshall to speed up play

The greens presently are a mess. Hopefully this is temporary. The course is also pretty wet. Bunkers were very heavy sand. I'd give them another try if I found a good deal.

Course is fun to play with enough challenges for all levels. Must be ready to play rolling terrain. Greens were spotty with several having large bare spots. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Friendly staff, good course layout, great price and wonderful Panoramic view.

I played this course a few years ago and it was fun and challenging. Now it seems much less popular, and the care taking appears to be falling behind. The few employees present were smiling and helpful but the pro shop was pretty much empty and the course... Well, some greens were lush but the rest were either pockmarked from unprepared ballmarks, or had huge spots without any grass at all-- just dirt to putt over. Makes green reading a challenge to say the least!

Had a great day , even with the wind. Course a bit challenging. Greens weren't in best condition, but we enjoyed the elevation changes. Made for an interesting game. Looking forward to playing again soon

This is a challenging course close to the airport. Made to be a "links" style course, the "dunes" are the only sign of that style. Cart signs are lacking near the greens, leading to carts being driven in the wrong direction or straight up to the greens, damaging the pitching areas nearby. Fairways are worn and hard. Very disappointing.

Extremely friendly staff. Course was in fair condition with the greens being pretty rough and slow. Fairways OK, bunkers reasonably good.
Signs ant elevation changes and blind shots. Very challenging for high hdips.

This was the second time playing Maui Lani. Played once last year.

The course is "fun" from the standpoint that it has a lot of elevation changes and some short Par 4 holes that allow for at least taking a shot at the green from the tee box even though the winds make it unlikely you would ever reach.

My problem is that there are too many places where you really have no idea where you should try and hit the ball in order to maximize your chances on the next shot.

I think a course layout like this works if you are going to be playing it fairly often, but makes the task too hard if you are a first or second time player on the course. Even the guide booklet cannot give enough help.

So, if you are going to have a chance to play the course several times, or if you are going to play with someone that has played it before, its a good choice. If not, you might be frustrated by getting to your ball and finding yourself in a bad spot for the next shot.

Nice course and good pace of play. Wasn't as nice as Kahili.

The staff was very friendly and it was a great course. Food was excellent.
