Winter rubbish
Despite the course being perfectly playable - greens in fab condition and tees …. The course decided it was winter and ruined the entire course layout, no notice that it was winter - daft hols half way down the fairway - two daft holes twice - ruined the entire experience obviously
Basis for a fantastic place, but fell shy
Firstly not a rant, used golf now on a Saturday so knew it would be mental torture as a one ball on a comp day, arrived to what looked like a very pleasant environment.
Popped into shop to sign in, found a pile of mats, thankfully the answer was no to being on them, but then came the news, winter greens/temps throughout 😲
No warning, then set off behind a four ball!
Immediately thought, what a shame it’s a short course today, absolutely loved the undulations in the fairways and general set up, first two holes were delightful and I was alone, weather was nice and it felt like a nice place to find myself.
Caught a four ball on the third, sat behind them until 7, no indication of letting me through, I later found out it was the president so that’s not setting the standard very well.
Didn’t want to keep the group of three behind me waiting so when they caught me, I asked if they wanted to go through, considering it was a comp day and I didn’t want to put anyone off, the kindly asked if I’d like to join them, very friendly chaps and it was a pleasure to walk around with them and learn about the course and the future plans, they seem very exciting and good things are promised over the next few years.
I will absolutely return come spring
Sadly the most upsetting factor! Greens had been hollowed, but were perfectly playable and should not have been on temps, temporary tee’s should be well documented prior to any payment
Also the chap in the shop told me no winter tee’s I played off 5 in the round, and he also failed to state 2x par 3’s weren’t even in play
So not very good information but still glad I went along only to know when things are better it would be worth while going back.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you felt dissapointed and had a bad experience. We do check the course every morning before deciding on what the playing conditions are for the day. We had just finished some course maintenance work and had a lot of rain over the previous few days. Our experienced greens team make that judgement call and we felt that it was ultimately best to keep the greens off that day. We would always recomend contacting the golf shop before booking as a visitor in the winter to find out the up to date course conditions and avoid dissapointment. The winter price is heavily reduced to reflect the winter course conditions but we would be only too happy for you to come back and see us again next year during the playing season so that you can see the historic course at it's full fantastic best.
Stunning!
Thoroughly enjoyed my round this morning at Forfar. Course in great condition considering heavy rainfall overnight. Greens ran true and what a stunning course. It will be on my shortlist for membership next season. £45 felt great value for money. Staff on arrival very helpful and welcoming also.
Excellent track.
Played here for the 1st time and was not disappointed. Welcomed by a friendly lad on the counter who took the time to explain the course, how to play it (can’t be over powered) and he was spot on.
Course itself was in excellent condition, greens were as good as we have played on this season.
A tricky layout with some wild undulations.
Clubhouse was very inviting, and well priced.
Will certainly be back
Good course
Probably wrong day to play course on my own - Sunday pm - my mistake !!!
Overall good course enjoyable and in good condition but pace of play did detract from the enjoyment
Extremely helpful staff.members
Great tough course
Course is about accuracy rather than big hitting, was tough for me… but enjoyed it all the same! Pro was spot on, very pleasant gentleman with great knowledge on the course and a few insider tips 😂 1st time playing I’ll be back again but maybe when I’m somewhat better… clubhouse menu looked reasonable although never tried it. Definitely worth a go !
Classic scotland
Enjoyable round and plenty of blind shots kept you concentrating
Fantastic Course
Played here twice within a few days now. Was that impressed on the Wednesday, we came back with one more golf buddy on the Saturday. Gentleman in the club shop before our round gave us a fascinating history of the course and a few pointers about individual holes too. It really is like an inland links course with so many different lies and high lipped bunkers. Just brilliant all round. 👍🏻
First time at Forfar
Excellent experience from start to finish.Visited Pro shop on arrival to discuss tee time then used clubhouse for a snack and drink.Members were a friendly bunch, all in all a great visit.
A gem
I’m surprised that this course is not better known, it’s good - some very interesting holes, well maintained and a very friendly club house to view the 18th with a beer!
A must play
Excellent course in top condition and most welcoming and friendly pro in the club shop who was very informative and helpful and a credit to the club, will definitely be back
Great course
Great course we'll layer out and in perfect condition.
A very friendly place
Hats off to the pro shop guy. Great advice and an excellent history lesson on the course!
Visiting forfar
Had a great days golf. Play was a bit slow due to a party of golfing in front but weather was good and we were enjoying the course which is well maintained. Stopped for a light lunch and staff all very helpful we will go back next time we're in forfar
Highly recommended
Such a pleasant exoerience to find conditions like this on a course I had never heard of. Greens superb, fairways not far behind. Presentation of the course excellent.
