Lockerbie Golf Club
About
Founded in 1889 and converted from nine to 18 holes in 1986, Lockerbie Golf Club is parkland layout in an open agricultural setting with delightful views of the surrounding countryside.
The golf course overlooks the picturesque borders town of Lockerbie. The many vantage points on the course offer views over fertile rolling hills toward the Lake district in the south and Dumfries to the west.
Lockerbie is a mostly forgiving golf course while still presenting some stiff challenges to the more adventurous golfer. It features a pond, which is in play on three holes.

Great wee find
This was the first time we played at Lockerbie and it is a great wee course with some outstanding views.
Once you understand the layout and where the Tees are it is a great wee course and most enjoyable to play
Gem of a course
This is a fantastic course. It was the meeting in the middle for a friend and me - halfway between Ayr and Newcastle. Although the clubhouse was scheduled to be closed on Monday's the secretary came to the club to welcome us and set us off on our round. Really friendly and helpful. Green staff on course also very accommodating and helpful and corrected us when we went in the wrong direction at one point. The course is clearly marked - wrong direction was our lack of concentration. Nice mix of holes, balance of uphill and downhill holes. challenging par 3s, and some nastily deep bunkers, lots of trees ! Would have been nice to have couple of par 5s - but not sure where they could be fitted in. We were very luck with the weather - a bit of rain when we arrived but fine and dry all the way round. Course in great condition. Really enjoyed the round and will certainly be back. Very happy to recommend.
Fabulous course!
Fabulous course although the layout was a bit confusing on the back 9 holes.
Very strenuous first hole, but the whole course was in good condition with beautiful scenery.
Throughly recommend this course.
Good value course
Lockerbie is a very undulating/hilly course. It was well presented, the fairways had been sprayed so could’ve done with a cut. Some really interesting holes, Par 3 over water was cool. Overall a good course for £20.
Excellent layout for this time of year met with a pleasant guy who showed us the course layout a great knock
Shreks
No staff hard to navigate drainage non existent and way over priced
Would advise to take a life jacket or at a minimum arm bands or another form of floatation device very boggy greens are shocking lovely scenery is a pluss
Friendly welcome.
Course was only playing 9 holes due to rain over previous weeks. Met by club secretary who apologised and was friendly and welcoming. Played the 9 open holes twice. Good challenge of holes and did no detract from nice round golf.
Course is a bit hilly, but was on good condition.
Course is a bit hilly, but was on good condition.
There was a competition on later that day so the pins were in very tough locations..
Overall the course was good, a bit soft in areas, but didn't spoil our game..
We never seen anybody until the 17th hole due to the competition, so was nice and relaxing and enjoyable..
Lovely course
We played Lockerbie for the second time today, the course was in good condition and really enjoyed the last 3 holes, great views, would recommend playing and the guy behind the bar was very friendly.
Lockerbie lament
The course was almost empty on arrival. Damp underfoot but preferred lies. Enjoyed the first seven holes before the player behind me cut in, missing out two holes, to then play directly behind me. Showing total lack of etiquette. It was also noted a local thought it a good idea to walk across the course with his dogs and a baby in a pram.
Felt too many holes were similar.
Still not properly dried out
Middle of June and I lost two balls landing on the fairways from good tee shots, both plugging and never seen again. I mean, yes we've had some rain but really courses should be very much dried out by now. The greens were pretty fast but had silly pin positions at the edge of greens presumably to keep the players away from the main part of them.
Not the longest of courses but as the fairways hadn't been cut in a while and with the ground still being somewhat spongey there was no run at all so it played a fair bit longer than you'd think. The course itself has some nice holes but be aware it is hilly so if you struggle going up and down get a buggy. Oh and here's the best piece of advice: at EVERY hole check you are on the right one. Always check the marker to make absolutely sure you are where you should be. If you don't - you're going the wrong way.
Lockerbie isn't terrible but it's not great either though that's just one opinion of course but if you do want to go then wait until there's been plenty of dry weather.
Average
Booked anticipating an 18 hole round but half the course was closed, unusual given the time of year! This was not mentioned prior to booking or approaching the course, difficult to work out the course layout and the par/distance of course became unrecognisable
Some fairways were long so hardly any carry on shots, was looking forward to playing the course and live locally but left disappointed and short changed
Course closed but still took booking
On arrival no one to book in with just an honesty box course only had 6 holes open due to flooding/sodden unplayable holes so couldn’t play the 18 holes I had payed for the course should of been closed .walked the first few holes it looks a beautiful track but unfortunately couldn’t play it
Hidden Gem
Not one of the bigger more well know courses but take a few hours and go play here.
We booked on for 0820 and were first put, the first is straight up hill which certainly gets the blood pumping but then the undulating layout isn’t too arduous.
The greens were a great pace, lots of breaks that will have you scratching your head.
A few drivable par 4’s, very risk/reward but only for the very brave!
Not the longest of courses and fairly open but being on the fairway pays a huge dividend, the semi-rough is only an inch deep and you’ll find your ball, but the lush grass means it’s not worth trying anything longer than an 8 iron.
The club house is a little small but perfectly serviced and the members are amazing, welcoming, interested and friendly.
The weather was a little inclement on the day but next time in Dumfries I’ll have Lockerbie on list of must play courses.
Was half closed
Unfortunately no one at the club had advised golf now that only half the course was open or they had been informed but not made the adjustment. They were cutting the higher up holes in preparation for reopening. Tee boxes were a bit rough but maybe because they were doing a lot of other work. Clubhouse was closed other than access to locker room as there were a few members there when I arrived. Very nice views and a pretty course. Asked for and received half a refund from golf now.
Great course
Good friendly staff and members, welcomed on arrival. Would recommend a buggy as quite hilly. Greens were looked after. Would play and recommend again

Lacks direction
Nice relaxing play on the course, greens and course in good condition. More signage would help as not always clear what direction the next tee is, and we were not the only ones who lost their way!
