About

Holes 18
Type
Style Parkland
Par 70
Length 6005 yards
Slope N/A
Rating N/A

Famous for its wildlife and picturesque views of Kirk Loch, Lochmaben Golf Course presents a somewhat surreal experience to any golfer.

The attractive 18-hole parkland golf course occupies a historic area around Kirk Loch. Close by the second green is the site of Bruce Castle. On the third hole, golfers can see the huge defensive ditch, which helped protect the castle.

The par-70 course's signature hole is the 120-yard eighth hole, which requires a tee shot across a corner of Kirk Loch.

Lochmaben is an ancient town four miles west of Lockerbie on the main road between it and Dumfries. Its location is unusual as it is hemmed in by three separate lochs: Castle Loch to the south, Kirk Loch to the southwest, and Mill Loch to the northwest. Lochmaben's origins date back at least as far as the building of the castle by the Bruce family in the 1160s.

Lovely views

Rearranged visit to Lochmaben - originally planned for week before but changed because of Storm Amy. Course was great and in fantastic condition. Some interesting holes and a most enjoyable day out. However, it would have been useful to let us know that the facilities were being upgraded. No pro shop.

Nobody to check our Golf Now booking. Very kind member provided guidance. Would happily play course again and happy to recommend- but won’t be back until the facilities are completed and open again.

Lochmaben

What a great course full of varied fairways complete with assorted hazards to test all levels of play. The greens are all in excellent condition and provided multiple gradient approaches which make you think carefully before accessing from the fairways.

Thoroughly enjoyed my round and will definitely be back before the season closes.

Unreal course

Clubhouse was shut but was chatting with one of the members there who gave me the lowdown on the course. Course was in immaculate conditon for December, holes 2&3 were shortened due to the large banks but the rest of the course was perfect, greens amazing. Easy to find your ball as long as it doesn’t go in the loch but the views of the loch are amazing. 10/10 looking to book again in the next few days

Still great

I reviewed Lochmaben a couple of months back (it's probably just below this one) so there is less to say this time to avoid repeating. Suffice to say I still love this course, condition was again excellent and I still played awful LOL.

Used a golfnow voucher so it actually only cost me £8.99 in hard cash, weather was fine and I met Robert and Chris who invited me to play along. If you're in the neighbourhood and are looking for a game I recommend this course to all. Give it a go.

Talk about hidden gems...

Every now and then you'll play a new course and be certain that if you lived in the area you WOULD be a member there. Lochmaben is one of those for me. Honestly can't think of a negative on this (except I played rotten). Nicely picturesque, the course is of a length I can manage now in my 60s without being too short. Splendidly looked after with tee areas, fairways and greens as good as you'd like them to be and while the course isn't flat it isn't overly hilly either. I couldn't hang around to make an opinion on food options so can't comment on that but the rest was just ideal.

I'll be going back again for sure to at least try to correct my wayward play and because the course is just begging to be played again.

Great course

The course was in great condition very picturesque, some challenging holes although this isn’t the longest of courses, very small car park so you might end up parking on the roadside
