Stranraer Golf Club
About
Stranraer Golf Club, located in southwest Scotland on the shores of Loch Ryan, is set on gently undulating ground. The parkland course affords exceptional views over the loch to Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and beyond.
Holes to look out for include three par-4s: the third, fifth and 11th holes. On the 403-yard third, a winding burn is crossed three times to reach a green set between a large bunker on the left and a steep bank sloping toward the burn on the right. The 382-yard fifth starts from an elevated tee down to a tight, sloping fairway set between a densely gorsed embankment and two inviting fairway bunkers. No. 11, at 382 yards, requires a demanding tee shot, with trees and out of bounds on the left, then a steep rise to a very fast green.
Stranraer Golf Club was designed in 1950 by the distinguished golf course architect James Braid. It was the last course he designed before he died in 1950.

1st Visit
First visit to Stranraer GC.
Course was in excellent condition. Really enjoyed the layout and challenge, there is a good mix of holes some very demamding others give a birdie opportunity.
The off course service was terrific with office staff very helpful assisting us as visitors.
We enjoyed lunch before play and the food choices were great with a wide range of options.
Members were extremely welcoming and friendly.
Great value and we will recommend and return.
Great course , with spectacular views
Stranraer is a super golf course, with testing greens and super friendly staff. A good challenge for all golfers in beautiful setting. Thanks to all at the club
Course in great condition
Considering the weather conditions this summer in Scotland the course was in excellent condition with fast and true greens. Second time we've played the course and will definitely play again when next in the area
Excellent course
Great course, great views, great condition
Greens and fairways immaculate
Very enjoyable day at Stranraer. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were made to feel very welcome. Course in great nick. The greens were quick and challenging if you got in the wrong position ! Would definitely return.
Super course.
Course in good order. Suitable for all grades. Easy enough to get around, slight puzzle for fifth tee box. Quiet day so no pressure from behind. Dining room undergoing carpet cleaning so didn’t sample it. Would go back.
Beautiful golf course with some great viewss
We played the course for the first time on Saturday and for the second time on Sunday with the best conditions.
The course is very varied and certainly has its pitfalls. Above all, the differences in height should not be neglected.
I fell in love with the course and if I lived in the area this would definitely be my home course.
Really nice course
Really nice course but very hilly, the greens were good and had a nice pace to them, the starter Marshall in the shop was very helpful and explained the course before went out, the only down side was the day I played the course was very busy so the pace of play was very slow, but that didn’t take anything away from course, and we had a great day, would definitely play this course again.
Great day of golf
The course was great, members we met along the way were very friendly and helpful. The views are stunning
Stranraer first visit
Course in excellent condition, staff extremely friendly. Fabulous views from most holes would definitely play again.
Brilliant place!
Once again an amazing day - our annual trip to a fantastic golf club. The weather was kind, hospitality was as normal (warm and friendly). The course was in great condition and played true.
It is a course and a club that is definitely worth playing if you get the opportunity.
Thank you Stranraer GC - see you next year!
A James Braid course - need anymore be said.
In very good condition despite recent heavy rain and bad weather.
Course Review
Course was in good condition, especially for the time of year. Nice layout with loads of memorable holes. The 5th in particular is a great hole, right along the water with cracking views.

Emotional return
Wonderful day on a wonderful course. Used to be a junior member in the late 1970s and played with my dad when I came back to Stranraer until he passed away in 1992. Gave up golf after my dad died but my son encouraged me to take it up again in the NE of England after a 30 year hiatus. My son asked to play at Stranraer and it was a really emotional return. The 5th hole was even better than I remembered. We had a lovely day only spoiled by the starter / admin person moaning about us using Golf Now to book. Fabulous round of golf topped off by haggis rolls in the clubhouse afterwards.
