Want to play the best public golf courses and hidden gems of Scotland?
For the second year in a row, Trump Turnberry's famous Ailsa Course is a strong choice at No. 1, followed closely by Kingsbarns.
We compiled our annual Golfers' Choice lists by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our community - golfers like you - throughout the previous year. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages. Courses must offer public access and have received at least two reviews in 2024 to be eligible for this year's list. Unfortunately other top Scottish golf courses like the Old Course at St. Andrews, North Berwick, Royal Troon and others didn't receive enough reviews to qualify. Leave us a review next time you're fortunate enough to play them.
If you want to play any of these listed courses, hover your browser over the course photo and if tee times are available, you can click to book directly.

What they're saying: "Can't say enough good things about Kingsbarns. Just wow. Course conditions are perfect and you can see the ocean from every hole. An amazing layout that has you wanting to take a picture of every hole. We played a lot of great courses on our Scotland trip but collectively as a group, we all left talking about Kingsbarns the most. An absolute must in the rotation and easy to get to from St. Andrews. Can't wait to get back someday." - ScottyGilmore

What they're saying: "Excellent in both condition and layout. Greens true and soft. The 3rd, 9th, 12th and 18th (are) standout holes. The wind was an added challenge. (I) don’t think I’ve experienced it much wilder (anywhere). My trolley (was) blown over 3 times. You will enjoy this course and a John Panton mocktail in the clubhouse." -Braehead80

What they're saying: "What an excellent day and experience from a senior-ish new-to-golf player. Made very welcome from the start from the club professional and members. Course was in great condition with super slick greens, very tidy tee boxes and dapper, rolling fairways. The out in particular was a delight through the Caledonian pinewoods with lots of wildlife including crossbills, red squirrels and lots of bird song...a great morning!" - DonaldChris

                    Lochmaben Golf ClubGreen fee: $71-$84
What they're saying: "Every now and then you'll play a new course and be certain that if you lived in the area you WOULD be a member there. Lochmaben is one of those for me. Honestly can't think of a negative on this (except I played rotten). Nicely picturesque, the course is of a length I can manage now in my 60s without being too short. Splendidly looked after with tee areas, fairways and greens as good as you'd like them to be and while the course isn't flat it isn't overly hilly either. I couldn't hang around to make an opinion on food options so can't comment on that but the rest was just ideal. I'll be going back again for sure to at least try to correct my wayward play and because the course is just begging to be played again." - Jigsaw666
