Holes 9
Type Private
Par 36
Length 3251 yards
Slope N/A
Rating N/A

The Cowden's nine holes at Muckhart Golf Club are the original nine where golf has been played for nearly 100 years at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Virtually no changes have been made to the layout during this time.

Muckhart Golf Club has 27 holes comprising three courses of 18 holes on a rotating basis. The Cowden Course measures 3,251 yards from the medal tees, and par is 36 for the nine holes.

Cowden's signature holes are the fifth and ninth. No. 5 is a challenging par 4 crossing two valleys, with the green backed by the Ochil hills. No. 9 is normally the last hole in an 18-hole round and is considered one of the finest finishing holes in Scottish golf. The drive has to be steered between a stream and a water hazard, and only the very longest hitters will consider taking on the burn in front of the green with their second shot.

I particularly like the concept of three 9-hole courses, which means that you don't know in advance which you will be playing.

Hidden gem of a course.

Brilliant hidden gem of a course, with 3 9 hole course which are changed round to make 18 holes. The course was in amazing condition for the time of year. On arrival we were greeted with a smiling face and really helpful pro in the shop. Will definitely be back to play again it was a joy to play.

Lovely views

Everything apart from the condition of and around the greens was fine. I think the fee was too high for the poor quality of the greens which were very poor in the first nine and although better on the second nine they were also very slow

Muckhart Golf Course

First time playing this course and won’t be my last. Upon arrival I went to pro shop where the pro was nothing short off charming, looked really pleased too welcome me and gave me the choice off three courses to play to make it enjoyable and as I was a single golfer, enjoy a good paced game. I went on the Cowden for the first nine , which starts with a long par 3 , which I parred, but it’s a test and is well designed course with great views. The course is well maintained and it was all summer greens , which for the time off year were in reasonable condition. Onto the second nine and I was put on the Arndean course, which was opened in 1998 , this course is much more driver friendly and is easier to score on than the first nine. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and will definitely recommend and can’t wait to play again with some Golf mates

The course was in excellent condition considering the poor weather in the days leading up to our round. It was challenging and enjoyable.

Would like to return in the summer as I’d imagine it could be quite scenic.

Sunday golf

Warm welcome from pro in shop, who made us feel welcome, told us about the course, and answered some questions.

Course in good condition for time of year. Full greens and normal tees. Nice variety of holes and not overly long.

Only gripe was poor etiquette of 3 ball in front. As a 2 ball we waited in every tee shot and approach shot on the back nine. Not great in cold windy conditions.
