Kingsknowe Golf Club

About
West of Edinburgh, Kingsknowe Golf Club is easily reached by anywhere in Scotland thanks to the Edinburgh City Bypass. The 1902 Open champion Alec Herd originally designed the golf course. It was later redesigned by none other than James Braid. It is a parkland golf course laid above and within valleys of hills that roll gently - and on the ground where Oliver Cromwell gathered his army gathered to bombard Redhall Castle in 1650.
These hills define the Kingsknowe Golf Club's beautiful fairways, lined by cherry trees that require clever golfers to launch their balls to heavily guarded - and comparatively small - greens. The course features many difficult dogleg par-4s, and claims as its marquee hole the 460-yard par-4 16th.
After wrapping up on another of the Kingsknowe Golf Club's par-4s, the 297-yard Hame, retire to the restaurant and watch others battle the green.

Fun course
Nicole in the pro shop was a star so helpful. Course was decent and fun, green a little bumpy.
Will play again sometime in the future
Just enjoy
Nicole in the pro shop is a honey, great service & great advise. Just nice.
Golf course is pretty good. Greens were a bit bumpy. We had fun.
Thank you.
Left hand dog legs and slopes
Great course with challenging steep slopes and plateau greens. Mostly long par fours in a huge space which makes you feel relaxed and unhurried. Other golfers that I did see were friendly.
Nice touch is the 9th finishes back at the clubhouse then you head back out to the parkland with 18th also finishing at the clubhouse.
Proper gem
This course was everything a golf course should be. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the price I paid through Golfnow was exceptional good value. The course was a bit wet in some parts due to the heavy rain overnight. But this was all explained at arrival. The professional asked if I'd played there before , then talked me through what to expect. Great little course, with lots of interesting holes, not just the normal hit as far as you can, over and over. Would recommend anyone to try this course if staying in Edinburgh. Don't let the lack of yardage fool you, this is no pitch and put, but a really enjoyable test of golf.
Proper little gem
Firstly got a great price through Golfnow. When rocking up slightly early I was told that I could get out earlier and told a little history about the course. Every care was taken and I was warned that there was some areas that was slippery due to heavy rain. The course layout was easily followed and the course played really well. Great course, well presented. The greens were fast and true. Luckily I didn't investigate the rough but it looked punishing. Would recommend this course to anyone, of all handicaps as it plays really well.
Quick round at a nice course
Managed to get round this short course in 3 hours. The course has a nice layout with a couple of long and challenging par 3s. The green keeping crew were out maintaining the course during my round which was good to see. The only slight disappointment was the state of the greens. They were a bit muddy in spots and not running very well. Overall, it was a good experience.
Great way to spend a few hours
I'm new to golf but this was my 15th course this year. A few challenges but no real frustrations. Greens were really good, clubhouse great (toilets clean and well kept). Staff welcoming and friendly. Will definitely play again next time I'm in Edinburgh with my clubs.
Great wee course
I have played Kingsknowe many times over the years, but this was my first time back in a while. First off, the starter was very friendly and informative! The shop was very well stocked and it was a great day for it. The course itself was in great condition given the time of year and recent weather! The greens were a wee bit bobbly but looked fantastic. There's a mixture of holes - long, short, straight, bendy, hilly.. it has it all for a course around the 6000 yard mark. I'd definitely recommend playing Kingsknowe, particularly if you haven't done so before.
Nice layout shame the greens had been cored and sanded.
Enjoyed the course but putting was hard on the sanded and cored greens. No consistency so hard to judge bounce or roll on approach. Still a nice afternoon out regardless.
Round in less than 3 hours.
Kingsknowe
