Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club features a design created by the land around the Easter and Wester Craiglockhart hills, making for a hilly tree-lined golf course that undulates and offers excellent views of Edinburgh. The golf course is short and tricky, requiring some blind strokes that seduce the bold and encompass a mix of rewards and punishments. It's definitely a cerebral course. There is no par-5, but seven par-3s let low-handicappers have a go at it, and let mid-high-handicappers do their thing.

The rough at the Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club doesn't punish much, and few bunkers or manmade traps exist, so relax and play against nature.

The Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club's first hole measures 244 yards and is one of those par-3s designed for everybody. On the final hole, golfers look at 282 yards and have four strokes to get there.

It’s a good course but very hilly

If you’re unfit or struggle to catch your breath going up the stairs I’d give this a miss, me and a friend played this in 26 degree scorching sun (big mistake) very steep hills and weird layout but it’s actually not a bad course

Nice little gem of a course in Edinburgh

First time visiting this course having passed by many times before. Easy to get to with ample parking beside pro shop and a very helpful young lad to assist you in the shop. The course plays around the contours of the local hillside so it is a bit of a walk for the less mobile , but it was good exercise maybe easier if you had one leg was shorter than the other as a lot of lies are at an angle. Fairways and greens in excellent condition, greens aerated and running really nicely at good speed. Nearly got lost between 7-8 hole as not signposted very well but a nice walk(course split between a road) Holes 11-13 are a bit unique as you play from the highest elevation on the course, excellent views and a few tricky blind par 3s before you head back home. Not the longest course but a good challenge, plenty of holes to try and get to green in 1 and lots of elevated greens. 18th is a good finishing hole, with lovely clubhouse on left as is reachable for many from the tee. Overall was a tiring round as lots of up and down and sideways walking but it added to the overall experience. Didn’t have time to enter the clubhouse as tight on time but it looked a lovely and a nice place to sit and have some food or a drink after your round. I just wish my golf was as good the the weather and course today. Will definitely be back a nice little gem to add to any bucket list of courses you should try in Edinburgh. Highly recommended

Good course.

Enjoyed the course, not a long one and a steep climb up one hole. Greens were disappointing.

Merchants round

Nice course, but too many blind tee shots. Not fun playing par 3’s where you can’t see the green.

Walked

Great for a mountain goat!

Glorious day in Edinburgh, spectacular views and some good holes (the 205yd par 3 "tap o the world" has a tee position that causes vertigo - my favourite on the day). Some short par 4s and long par 3s. A few blind tee shots and approach shots around the hilly course, which was a bit annoying. I walked and carried - some very steep hills, up down and across the direction of play which makes tee shots and approach shots challenging at times - local knowledge would be helpful. Greens a bit bobbly in places, bunkers had decent sand in them, fairways generally looking good, rough was fair (I managed a ball all the way round - I still consider that a win). Good value at this price and worth playing if you've never played it before. there are other courses to play before I'd come back here.

Wouldn’t go back

Played here and the men’s tees have no par 5’s, the greens were in horrific condition and would not recommend.
