Swanston Golf Club

        About
Short but very demanding, small well kept plateau greens. Some very memorable holes.
Swanston G.C is a very testing course set on the North facing slopes of the pentland hills. There are some tough climbs when playing this course and your stance will rarely be level. The main hazards here are gorse bushes, not trees particularly on the 8th hole which is a 216yrd par 3 played from an elevated tee over a sea of gorse bushes, with more down the right hand side. There are six par threes and no par fives, but don't let that give you the impression that this is an easy course. Another memorable hole is the seventh which is 435yrds slightly uphill and with slight dog-leg to the left, and is nearly always playing in to a stiff breeze.
The clubhouse is small in comparison to most golf clubs but you are guaranteed a warm, friendly atmosphere and some good food once inside. All in all, this is a very good days golf for all levels of play.

Save your money
Course is a killer to walk, slopes every way untill the latter third, signage is extremely poor.
Worst stocked pro-shop I've ever seen and the manager is the most unwelcoming and rude person.
There are lots of excellent golf courses around Edinburgh sadly this is not one.
I would say save your money and try somewhere else.
Lovely challenging course
Great course in fab condition for the 1st April. Tough with the undulation but well worth a play if you haven’t before!
Fantastic views - tough experience
Don't be fooled by its short length, this course requires the best precision especially in windy weather.
Playing in 40mph gusts is never fun - especially on a mountain slope. But the views were worth the struggle. The course requires precision and I found Driver was not a good option off the tee, rolling slopes required the best placement and greens won't hold unless placed perfectly.
The overall experience was brilliant - a quirky golf course that made par a rewarding struggle, the greens rolled true yet fast - the back 9 was 100% easier than the front 9, and the course goes from 45 degree slopes to flatter rolling fairways.
Would definitely return under better weather (and try to break 75 this time).
Great course, very hilly
I slept well following my round at Swanston. A very hilly course with some cracking holes. The course was in fantastic shape. The greens were especially good…fast and true. Big shout out to members, Chris and Ross who invited me to play with them and helped me with their course knowledge. I will definitely play Swanston again :-)
My afternoon at swanston.
I was a member here a few years ago, nice to go back and see all the redesigned holes.Tees , greens and fairways all in good condition. Excellent sand in bunkers.Really enjoyed my round.

Satisfied
Some lovely holes great views course and greens In good condition despite weather we have had over last few months. Couple off holes still a bit boggy but despite my play enjoyed the course
Great views of Edinburgh from a hilly course
The course was generally in good condition but 2 greens have recently been re-layed - so temporary greens. The front 9 were particularly hilly and not great for my 63 year old legs. A few interesting holes but a lot of tricky lies - even on the fairways - uphill, downhill, sidehill lies made the course even more challenging. Off course facilities in the Brasserie were good and the accompanying Templar is a very short par 3 course with a good adjacent chipping area and driving range.
Great course great views
Great course to play was well kept especially given most courses this time of year are water logged and mushy underfoot. The greens were nice, barely any winter greens . Some quirky holes and definitely a fun course to play .
Amazing views
Lovely course with amazing views of Edinburgh across to Fife and down the East Lothian coast
Some interesting holes, hilly but worth playing
Nice views, some cracking par 3's. For the time of year it was in good condition and good value for money. I would definitely play again soon.
Stormy and Slope
As non Scottish visitors ,we were very pleased to play in such stormy weathers and Slopes, amazing!.
Only orientation wasn’t always easy. Should install signs and a chart for players not knowing the course.
Fantastic views, well kept course
This is a hilly well kept course with spectacular views. It has a great clubhouse and very friendly staff. Greens were good and layout challenging.
